After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 264: Living in Your Heart (28)
The two of them hugged briefly before letting go.
"I know who was pretending to be Sophie Bennett, it’s you, isn’t it?"
"Clever." She sat down, placing her bag on the chair beside her, "Thanks to you for the Robert Langley facade, you helped me a lot, and I even mooched meals at your place, honestly, I feel guilty."
He poured some wine, "Don’t say that, I invited you to the meal, I’m already happy you’re willing to grace me with your presence."
"I heard you have a son, and he’s already a few years old. Who’s the mother?"
"The child was through surrogacy."
Alice Brooks, about to turn the corner, halted her steps, and then heard Charles Sharp say, "But, would you believe it, the child’s mom is now working as a nanny in my home."
She stood there, thunderstruck.
"A nanny?" Lucy Eaton asked, "Is she married?"
"No, she’s single."
"Will you tell her?"
Charles Sharp pondered, "I don’t know, just let things unfold naturally. But she seems to have a nice personality, very grounded, quite different from Sophie Bennett."
"I think if you plan to tell her, keeping her by your side would be good. If you don’t want her to know or have any involvement with her, then don’t keep her around. Honestly, since she’s single, you might as well tell her. Having a mother around is greatly beneficial for a child’s growth, and having a mother for the child doesn’t conflict with whether or not you have a wife." Lucy Eaton smiled brightly, "Of course, if you find her quite nice, you could give her a chance. After all, compared to a stepmother, your wife being the child’s real mom is better. Charles, I hope you’re happy."
"I’ll think about it." He raised his glass, and since Lucy Eaton was driving, she clinked her teacup with his.
Alice Brooks’ mind was in turmoil.
Matthew Sharp is actually her son.
This child has always been a knot in her heart.
Even though she’s kept it to herself all these years, she has imagined countless times what the child looks like and wants to know if he’s doing well. Unfortunately, she hadn’t seen the child even once since his birth, nor did she know who the employer was.
Hearing Charles Sharp say he would consider it, she wanted to strive to be by the child’s side.
After Lucy Eaton left, she knocked on his room door.
Charles Sharp, who had been drinking, was resting against the headboard and hearing the door, told her to come in.
"Mr. Sharp, I accidentally overheard what you said during the meal." She suddenly knelt down, "Please allow me to stay by the child’s side for a long time. You don’t have to pay me, nor let Matthew know I’m his mom."
Charles Sharp sat up, "Get up first."
She looked up into his eyes and finally stood up.
"Since you heard, let me ask you, have you really thought through taking care of him by his side?"
"Yes." She nodded solemnly, "I can stay unmarried and not have a boyfriend until he grows up."
He looked at her, not knowing what he was thinking, and after a long pause, asked, "Marry me, how about that? You’ll be his rightful mother."
Alice Brooks replied, "If Mr. Sharp dares to marry me, I dare to marry. Only, Matthew might have some resistance."
"No, all these years, he’s always asked me where his mom is, and I’ve always said we just separated. He’s looking forward to meeting you."
Alice Brooks thought of the child growing up without a mother by his side, feeling a pang of sorrow, because she always assumed that the employers were a couple struggling with infertility due to the need for confidentiality.
"Mr. Sharp, I’ll be a good mother and wife."
Charles Sharp’s eyes were deep, "We’ll see."

Lucy Eaton took a shower and changed clothes, when suddenly the phone rang.
She saw it was an unfamiliar number.
She answered.
It was Robert Langley calling, "Lucy, it’s me. I know I have no face to call you, but I’m really at a loss, your sister-in-law has relapsed, all our savings are gone..."
A grown man started crying on the other end of the phone.
There was no trace of sympathy in Lucy Eaton’s heart, "How did you get my new number?"
"I asked one of the staff at the store to get it for me."
"Robert Langley, I thought in the life and death trial club, we’d established a deep friendship, but I was wrong. You know well how things went between us later, and how much money you took from me. The situation you and your wife are in today is your own karma. I won’t help you. How you treated me, I will never forget a single bit. Don’t ever call me again, and that’s the end of it."
After she finished speaking, she hung up, and Robert Langley didn’t call again.
To her, the couple were as cold as iron.
Those who betray her, once disloyal and never to be used again.
That night they were going to have a family dinner at the old house, and when she came downstairs, the father and daughter were already waiting.
"Young Madam, I have information on that Mary Pond you asked me to check," Oliver Green reported, "Mary Pond is currently working as a waitress at a restaurant, serving dishes and cleaning floors. She earns over two thousand yuan a month, is married to one of the restaurant’s chefs, they’ve taken out a loan to buy a house, life is pretty tight, and she’s still working while pregnant."
"Knowing she’s not doing well gives me peace of mind." Lucy Eaton can understand that Mary Pond fled in fear after James Foster’s incident, but understanding her doesn’t mean forgiveness for being the instigator, which she will never extend.
When she returned to the Green Family’s old house, everyone was there except for Lily Green.
Since getting married, she hasn’t returned to her family once.
Though she hadn’t returned, Silas Sheppard had brought back a set of twins.
Silas Sheppard kept his promise made at the wedding, having two kids within three years.
Indeed, Lily Green ended up with twins in one go.
The atmosphere at the dining table was harmonious, but since Lily Green still didn’t come back this time, the old lady Green was still quite unhappy.
"It’s been so long and she’s still reluctant to enter this home. I bet unless I’m dead, she won’t come back. Without my persuasion back then, she’d still be mingling with monks, eating veggies, and drinking tea. Where would she find the happiness she has now? Silas treats her so well, and they have a pair of twins. Just look, among the young madams of her age, who has a better life than hers?"
"Grandma, she’s let go of that matter a long time ago," Silas Sheppard replied. "This time I told her not to come back."
"Why?"
"She’s pregnant again, and the doctor advised against moving around much since her condition is a bit unstable. So I let her rest at home. As for meals, there’s plenty of time in the future, missing one or two isn’t a big deal, right?"
"Good on you." Jacob Green patted him on the shoulder, "Way to go."
"Of course." Silas Sheppard was smug, "You should hurry up too, plan for another baby."
"No rush, there’s plenty of time, sooner or later makes no difference."
Everyone: "..."

Lucy Eaton’s next visit to the Presidential Mansion was with Flora Palmer and her son, at Flora’s suggestion. She wanted to see Arthur Bennett one last time.
She happened to be wanting to see him too, so the two decided to go together.
