Contract Marriage: Billionaire and His Deaf Wife
Chapter 1292: Head-to-Head Confrontation (Part 4)
Xiao Shuju nodded. "You can rest assured about that. If it’s not you, I’m not telling anyone."
"So why do you want to tell me?" Zhang Sanfeng seized on her words to ask.
"Because I originally wanted to discuss it with Miss Zhong. I don’t dare talk it over with my family, I’m afraid they’ll worry. Now I can’t discuss it with Miss Zhong, so I can only come to you. Just so happens trouble hit the Zhang Family too, we’re kind of in the same boat."
You could only say this third child of the Xiao Family is, at heart, very naive. Zhang Sanfeng couldn’t claim to completely understand him, and yet he’d suddenly blurt out such a secret. What if Zhang Sanfeng just happened to be some undercover big villain?
Fools have their own kind of luck, I guess. Luckily, Zhang Sanfeng wasn’t a villain.
Xiao Shuju got up and went out, saying she might end up staying with Zhong Qiaohui a couple more days, waiting for a call from Xiao Yebai and the others. The whole family had originally agreed they were going to drop by Fourth Brother’s place.
Once the room was empty, Zhan Dapeng walked in and asked Zhang Sanfeng, "Did she tell you anything?"
"You sound kind of nervous." Zhang Sanfeng caught a flash of panic on his face and couldn’t help feeling suspicious.
"I heard her talking about some money-laundering organization, and it made me think of Old Six."
Ever since Wei Changqing pulled himself together over the past few days, he’d gone back to his own unit. Word was, his first assignment after returning was going after money launderers.
"Money laundering—Old Six has busted plenty of those before. What she’s talking about is more hidden." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"What do you mean?"
"They specialize in doing business for certain companies. It’s not like they casually do deals; it’s obvious they’re strategically laying out a network. The ones Old Six caught were mostly because individual fund transfers triggered serious police suspicion. What she’s talking about is fundamentally different."
Zhan Dapeng blinked rapidly, babbling without saying anything.
Zhang Sanfeng turned his wheelchair around; he already had some ideas. He said, "Even though I promised her I wouldn’t casually tell Second Brother, this thing could be big or small. I don’t believe Second Brother hasn’t noticed anything at all."
"You’re going to tell Second Brother?"
"Didn’t Xiaolian start staying with him from today on? Call Xiaolian first."
Zang Xiaolian came back to report to Dabai. Dabai felt it was just perfect; he’d been acting as his son’s driver these past two days and was pretty worn out, so he had Zang Xiaolian come over as backup driver.
With an uncle suddenly replacing Dad behind the wheel, Second Monkey immediately felt it was unfair and squawked, "Dad, you’re being lazy. Mom told you to drive, and you went and found someone else to drive."
Dabai picked his nose at Second Monkey. "So what? I got him to drive because I have that capability. Do you?"
Second Monkey felt so wronged. He was three years old—how was he supposed to compete with a thirty-year-old man who had money and power? So he had to be the little pack mule now?
Anyway, whatever you called it, the Two Monkeys were truly popular now—red like a monkey’s backside, blazing red.
Nala was in her hotel room, constantly answering calls from all sides, mostly invitations to work with the Two Monkeys. Among them were well-known children’s clothing brands like Rom, which had been mentioned last time.
When she heard that Rom was planning to change to a new spokesperson and was inviting the Two Monkeys to endorse their new product line, Nala’s heart gave a little thump.
Her colleague had called it. It seemed a head-on clash with veteran child stars like David and Rifu was inevitable.
For kid performers just starting out, there are usually "Super Child Star"–type competitions, but the Two Monkeys had no plans to join any of those. On one hand, the kids’ parents didn’t want them entering those contests that don’t mean much and whose winners are basically pre-decided by the unspoken rules. On the other hand, Stephen, who was doing strategy for the Monkeys, also felt the Monkeys were different from the rest and could totally skip that old routine.
