I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO
Chapter 764 - 761: The Hand That Plucks Is the Hand That’s Chopped (Part 2)
Looking at the hardly touched fruit on the plate, he could only shake his head helplessly.
"Where can I buy candied hawthorn in this hot summer?"
...
...
The next day.
Vera woke up hungry early in the morning, opened her eyes but didn’t see Kris Cooper. Puzzled, she got dressed, washed up, and went to the front yard restaurant where Mrs. Feng had already prepared breakfast.
Seeing the steaming breakfast on the table, she immediately grabbed a bun and took a big bite without hesitation.
"Hungry, huh? I’ll get you some porridge," Mrs. Feng said, smiling at her appetite. "Pregnant women are always hungry. I remember when I was expecting my son, I would get up in the middle of the night, half-asleep, and open the fridge."
"Really?" Vera swallowed the bun in her mouth. "Did Kris leave?"
"He went out early, said he was going to buy something." Mrs. Feng brought the porridge bowl over and placed it in front of Vera. "It’s a bit hot, eat slowly!"
At that moment, Mrs. Li was helping Grandma Wave over. Vera immediately got up to help the elderly lady with her chair. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kris Cooper already walking through the front door with a small square box in his hand. She hurried over to meet him.
"Kris, come and have breakfast!"
Seeing her, Kris quickly walked over and held up the small box, offering it to her.
"Here’s the... thing you wanted!"
The thing she wanted?
Vera opened the box lid, and a waft of cool air escaped. Curiously, she leaned in to look and found several sticks of candied hawthorn inside.
The bright red hawthorn coated in sparkling sugar looked wildly appetizing.
With a delighted expression, she picked one out and brought it to her nose to sniff. The fresh scent of hawthorn instantly filled her nose.
"How... how did you manage to get these?"
"I asked Tommy Taylor to find an old master to make them freshly," Kris said, closing the box lid indulgently. "Start with one or two to whet your appetite. Don’t eat them all at once, hawthorn on an empty stomach isn’t good. By the way, don’t eat too much. The master specifically reminded me."
[Just guessing, when you write about this, someone might complain about the myth that eating hawthorn during pregnancy could cause miscarriage. I just want to say that eating a small amount is fine. If you disagree, keep it to yourself; after all, none of us are scientists.]
"Got it!"
Vera replied as she bit into half of the hawthorn on top.
Ever since she got pregnant, she had been craving these. It was inconvenient while she was in prison, and later she searched everywhere but couldn’t find them. Now she finally got her wish.
Savoring the long-awaited flavor, she leaned in to kiss him.
"Sugar, sugar, sugar!"
He turned his face to dodge, but she laughingly hugged his neck, unapologetically kissing his face twice, leaving a sticky lip print on purpose, and then released him.
"Honey, thank you!"
Seeing her mischievous smile, he couldn’t muster any anger, only rolled his eyes at her.
"You little rascal!"
She then swayed with the candied hawthorn into the dining room, "Grandma, look at this!"
"Candied hawthorn?" Grandma Wave looked surprised, "They sell these in the summer?"
Vera glanced at Kris Cooper, who was placing the candied hawthorn in the fridge, and laughed, "Yes, Master Cooper made them."
"Master Cooper?" Grandma Wave just shook her head, "You silly girl, buying a stick of hawthorn and you have to ask what people are called. You’ve been curious since you were young."
Both Mrs. Feng and Mrs. Li laughed out loud.
Kris Cooper came over and sat next to Vera.
