Chapter 148: Unskilled

Alex was grinning and jumping lightly. "It’s finally my turn! I’ll even be faster than Catena!" .

The crypt Master frowned at him. "You won’t be judged based on that, it’ll be on how you use your skills. Your fighting abilities."

Alex nodded, his sword already out and ready. "Then open the portal!"

The crypt Master sighed and the portal opened in front of him. "There."

Alex looked at his teammate and winked then he jumped into the portal. "See you later!"

"That’s a hasty one." The Commander said.

"He’s also as good," Kael said.

"Then let’s see what he can do. What type of Crypt is this?"

The crypt Master smiled. "A peculiar one, it took a while to find...."

Alex looked up at the shining sun; he appeared in a forest in what seemed to be high noon. "So, not a cave-like Catena; what kind of monsters will I see here?"

The forest is not the kind that’s filled with tall trees; the forest here is more of a grassland,. He chose a direction and began to walk, his long sword resting on his right shoulder.

It was silent, and Alex found it odd because every crypt he’d been to, especially those in the forest, usually had small animals running around, even some birds in the sky, but now, everywhere was silent, and even the winds were refusing to blow.

He soon found out the reason, the more because he began to see the tail of destruction left behind. Dead animals of all sizes littered the floor, and the most peculiar thing was that they were half eaten as if whatever had done this was bored.

Alex crouched, studying the animals. Some are recently dead, and some are long dead and rotting, but what thing they all have in common is the way they were killed: a single bite to the side of the neck.

He began to follow the trail, and he knew it would lead him to where whatever done this was staying. He held a formation in his mind, and his hand tightened on his sword. Alex is having a bad feeling about this whole time.

He had a hunch about the type of monster it could be, and he began wishing it wasn’t. He walked for a while, enduring the smell of rotted flesh until the lands changed. The green forest gave way to hard brown rocky ground and large rocks.

And then he came into a clearing, and he groaned, his eyes narrowed to a split as he saw the monsters. They dominated the clearing and lived on hollowed rocks that were arranged around facing each other.

The clearing was loud with their yowl and growls.

This type of monster is also popular, just like the zombie. But unlike the undead, they don’t spread diseases, but they cause such as much the same, so Awakeners always take such crypt seriously.

They are the infamous Warg monsters! They are shaped like a chimpanzee but with the head of a wolf and leaner body with claws to make a lion jealous.

The reason Awakeners hate them is that they are like a natural disasters; if ever there’s a crypt break and monsters pore out, and it happens to be the Warg, then they’ll have a hard time. They are the most intelligent monsters in the Initiate rank, so their attacks are always coordinated.

They destroy things in a way that won’t ever be useful again and won’t benefit others. Just like the animals and smaller monsters, they left back at the forest, taking small bites out of them without eating.

They’ve been known to pull out Awakeners’s limbs while they leave them alive or crush their bones. They always travel in packs with the strongest as the Alpha.

"This is going.. to be fun," Alex said. He felt a monster coming from behind him and he debated if he should hide or start the fight now.

"Kilkkeer?"

A surprised monster growled behind him and he smiled. "I guess it’s time to fight."

The warg let out a single sharp roar, a danger signal then leaped at him with claws extended. Alex planted his right foot on the ground, then spun, his sword cutting like the wind.

The monster was cut into two from the abdomen, gut spilling hotly onto the floor. But his signal was enough to rouse the pack, and he heard the short barking growls behind him.

But then he was reminded what Commander Apex said about Catena’s fight, so he turned to the monster body he just killed and used his lightning arrow to strike it. He breathed a sigh of relief when the attack passed through.

"Now it’s just a matter of cutting through until I reach the boss. I don’t think my fighting style can work here. Maybe if I cut them down a bit."

His style of staying in one place and letting his enemies come to him so he can cut them at his own pace. He walked forward, approaching the incoming monsters but once he found a flat place that made his legs firm, he stopped moving.

"Here I go!" He screamed and swung his sword with brutal force, cutting two monsters at once. That left him open and another monster thought to step in but was met with a lighting arrow on the head.

The air was now heavy with the smell of blood and dirty fur.

Alex was having fun; his sword was long and strong enough to cut two monsters into two at the same time, and the reach gave him a chance to keep the monsters away from him.

Each swing was with a calculated force, just enough to cut down a monster, no complicated footwork, and this way, he was able to save energy.

To unskilled them might think that Alex’s sword would be slow because of the size but it’s a sword that was measured to be what he can handle.

He laughed as black blood fell on him like gruesome rain.
