Legacy of the God of War
Chapter 49: Life’s Hidden Currents
Hidden between the high skies, a private jet flew peacefully. The two men inside the jet were Wu Chunlei, a man in his 30s, and an old man in his 70s, Chen Lao. They were dressed in clothing that represented their high status. Wu Chunlei had a cold and indifferent demeanor, while Chen Lao had wise but cunning eyes.
Wu Chunlei spoke, "Master Chen, are you sure about your findings?"
Master Chen responded, "Are you doubting me, young man?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Wu Chunlei retorted, "I haven’t felt any fluctuations of energy, and yet you come and tell me that the first page of the manual has been discovered."
Master Chen explained, "You, of all people, should know that what science describes as supernatural and fiction is actually real."
Wu Chunlei warned, "If I find out you lied to me..."
Master Chen interrupted, "What will you do? You know you need me more than ever, right? If God of War’s successor finds all the pages of the manual, you are doomed. Your existence depends on it and my gift."
Wu Chunlei stated confidently, "They will never get page 6."
Master Chen countered, "Because you have it doesn’t mean they can’t take it from you. The real power of the manual rests on the first page. The fact that you don’t have the first page should tell you something about the person that does."
Wu Chunlei expressed his frustration, "God of War is a real pain."
Master Chen remarked, "You missed your chance; unfortunately, you can never get your revenge that has been burning within you for thousands of years."
Wu Chunlei was determined, "I will destroy his legacy. I will obliterate his successor so he can toss and turn in his grave."
Master Chen warned, "Have you ever thought that he might have come back?"
Wu Chunlei confidently replied, "I know him. He is too cocky and full of pride. If he did, I would have known years ago."
Master Chen offered caution, "You just need to be prepared, young man. Don’t rush things."
Wu Chunlei insisted, "I know what I am doing. I have been waiting for this chance for years. My soul has been wandering around, waiting for this moment."
Master Chen revealed his own motivation, "And once you get the first page, it will all be worth it."
Wu Chunlei asked, "What exactly do you want?"
Master Chen explained, "Me? Well, years ago, someone thought I wasn’t fit enough to be the guardian of the manual. So, I just want to know how far his chosen guardian is now."
Wu Chunlei realized, "You are hoping to find him with the successor."
Master Chen nodded, "He will come. I will make him crawl out of his old wooden house very soon."
In the quiet confines of the private jet, the two men remained lost in thought. Wu Chunlei, with his handsome features and cold demeanor, carried a burning desire for revenge against the legendary God of War. His eyes held a deep-seated determination, and his mind raced with thoughts of dismantling the legacy that had haunted him for centuries. He vowed to obliterate every trace of the warrior’s existence, leaving no stone unturned in his quest for vengeance.
Chen Lao, on the other hand, was an older man, his visage marked by the wisdom of age and eyes that held a cunning spark. He harbored a different yet equally fervent motive. He yearned to prove himself as the rightful guardian of the ancient manual, a role that was once denied to him. The embers of his ambition smoldered within, and he was determined to seize the opportunity presented by the successor.
Both men were driven by the desire for retribution, and their shared goals would undoubtedly wreak havoc when their carefully laid plans were set into motion. Their silent contemplation was a prelude to the chaos they intended to unleash upon the world.
Meanwhile, in the heart of Beijing, within the opulent confines of a grand mansion, the woman of the house occupied her elaborate chair, an unmistakable air of authority surrounding her. Her furrowed brows revealed the weight of her thoughts and concerns, making it clear that her presence was not one to be taken lightly. Before her, a man approached with a deferential demeanor, awaiting her directives.
"You’re here as summoned."
"Yes, ma’am. Your summons was prompt."
"How is the mission progressing?"
"So far, it’s proceeding according to plan, ma’am. But your son is planning a trip to Shanghai in the coming days."
"I see."
"Ma’am, is it not time for you to emerge from the shadows? The boys are old enough, and the organization will eventually catch up with them."
"They are still not prepared, especially Li Chen."
"I comprehend, ma’am. However, he possesses a unique gift. If we begin his training now, tailored to his exceptional abilities, he could become strong enough to protect himself."
"I’ll take your counsel into consideration. For the time being, ensure he has everything he desires."
"Ma’am, the Gu family attempted to deal with Li Chen. He handled it efficiently. Presently, he resides in his house with a female friend."
"It’s about time he formed a close companionship. Perhaps, someday, he will consider real marriage."
"What should we do about the Gu family, ma’am?"
"My plans regarding the Gu family are already in motion. Rest assured, I’ve set my plans into action, and soon, they will feel the bite of my resolve."
"Your determination remains unwavering, as always."
"In matters concerning family, my commitment is absolute."
As their conversation lingered on, the woman couldn’t help but contemplate the elaborate web of secrets and lies that she had woven throughout the years. Her desire to protect her loved ones and her own enigmatic past had driven her to these extraordinary measures. The man in her presence was well aware of the depth of her secrets, yet he dared not broach certain subjects, understanding the unspoken boundaries.
The conversation, though informative and purposeful, held an undercurrent of tension—a silent understanding between the two, that the past would forever haunt them and secrets would always be their currency in a world where power and influence were everything.
As Li Chen diligently toiled on his financial aspirations, completely absorbed in his plans for the future, he remained blissfully unaware of the intricate machinations and hidden currents that swirled around him. Little did he know that a series of events and encounters, both orchestrated and coincidental, were poised to unfold, forever altering the course of his life in ways he could never have imagined.
