Chapter 1339: The Rain Has Stopped
They hadn’t managed to return to their home country; they stopped in Mo-Ridge.
This was a country where euthanasia was permitted.
As dawn was about to break, Hannah opened her eyes and said to Arnold Simmons, who was sitting by the bed, "Arnold, I want to go home." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Arnold moved his lips, and after a while, he hoarsely said, "Okay."
That very night, they returned to their country.
Hannah was admitted to a private hospital domestically.
The doctor conducted a comprehensive examination and ultimately gave the same diagnosis.
Only this time, it also came with a deadline.
Half a month.
Hannah knew that the world was already rejecting her, this was the longest she could stay.
Taking advantage of her condition not yet flaring up, she spent an hour making her final arrangements.
In the fifteen days’ time, she had to see those good friends of hers for three days.
The rest of the time, she just wanted to spend with Arnold alone.
Jack Stewart was the first to receive the news and the first to arrive.
Followed closely by Hayes Edwards, Roy Yarn, Lucy Taylor, James Landon, Christopher Lee, Emily Lynch, and Edison Lynch.
After three days, Hannah turned off her cellphone and threw it aside.
After the third attack of her illness, she became very weak.
She could feel her life slipping away.
Yet she still persisted, because one night, when she woke up in pain, she saw Arnold in the corner wiping away tears.
At that moment, a feeling of helplessness suddenly took root in her heart.
During these many days of illness, it was the first time her eyes turned red.
Tears welled up in her eyes, but quickly, she forced them back.
She didn’t cry anymore, just waited until Arnold went to bed and fell asleep, then she carefully tucked her hand into his palm.
His hand was no longer warm, just like hers: both were cold.
But she still liked this feeling very much.
She loved everything about him.
December 31.
The last day.
Hannah’s complexion had improved significantly.
She asked Arnold to take her out for a walk, even if they couldn’t leave the hospital, sitting on the grassy area behind it was fine too.
Arnold did not agree, worrying that the cold might make her uncomfortable.
Hannah was silent, her round eyes just looked at him plaintively, not crying but as if brimming with tears, "Won’t you really let me go?"
Her soft, fragile voice was filled with grievance.
Arnold almost couldn’t hold out, but finally, he maintained a firm stance, "No, it’s still raining outside."
So, Hannah fell silent again, just watching him steadily.
Wherever he went, as long as he was still in the room, her gaze tightly followed him.
Like a child who couldn’t get her candy.
Arnold could only force himself to turn away, not to look into those eyes. He reached into his pocket, clenched his hand, then let go.
After two minutes, he compromised halfway.
He took out a candy from his pocket intended as a placation.
This was Hannah’s request three days ago.
She wanted to eat candy.
Though not entirely satisfied, Hannah who got the candy decided not to sulk at Arnold for the time being.
Noon.
News came from the household servant back home, saying that Da Yuan recently had a poor appetite, hardly eating much of his dog food, leaving more than half every day.
Hannah was somewhat worried and said to Arnold, "You should go back and check on him in a few days. Da Yuan is definitely losing weight, probably missing me."
"Okay," Arnold said as he brought the warmed porridge to her lips, "Then you should eat a bit more too, set an example for Da Yuan."
She blinked, "If I eat a little more, can I go out later?"
Arnold, looking down as he scooped the porridge, "If the rain stops, then you can."
Encouraged, Hannah drank more than half a bowl of porridge, twice as much as before.
At two o’clock, the rain stopped.
Shortly after, the sun also came out.
Arnold kept his promise.
Hannah changed her shoes, happily got out of bed, but she hadn’t even left the ward when everything in front of her turned dark.
