Chapter 26: A Crime of Nobody

Failed? How?

That’s not even reasonable.

Every farmer was all shocked at the familiar voice that had just spoken.

It was the same voice that spoke when they arrived at the challenge, but now its tone was different, as there was rage and anger in it.

While most of the Farmers’ heads were up high trying to see if they could see any figure that represented the voice, Nyra’s eyes were on the pedestal crystal.

She was trying to see if she would find anything relating between the crystal and the voice since they are from the same place.

Meanwhile, Aegon was listening deeply to the voice as he thought within himself.

’This voice, is there any way the system can detect it and bring it to light?’

He placed his right hand on his chin and began thinking of such a possibility, after all he had a relic on his side that granted him cosmic abilities because of his talent, so why shouldn’t it be able to do a mere task?

Nyra noticed how Aegon raised his hand to his chin and her gaze was directed to him. He looked as though he was thinking of something different, not even listening to what the voice was saying.

’What is he doing?’ she thought inwardly.

"What is it talking about?" a single voice of a random farmer exclaimed.

The mysterious voice spoke out loud, but wasn’t responding to the random farmer’s question.

[You have failed to meet the criteria of the challenge and must die.]

[However, you have been given one more chance, and only if you do this will you survive the coming hours.]

What?

What does that mean?

[One amongst you has gone against the challenge and distributed the process, so this person must die!] 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

[You have to put them to death!]

"Bullsh!t!!" a voice exclaimed, and every head turned to this person.

It was the male Farmer who was the second to volunteer to inform the other groups; the one who smiled at the lady who first volunteered.

"What is he..."

The man walked out to the foremost of the Farmers, his head high as though he was in his main character moment.

"We are not going to do as you say!" The man yelled while looking upwards. "You bring us here against our own will and give us a stupid challenge to do."

"But now that someone has distributed your plane, you want us to kill that person."

"Why don’t you do it yourself? To hell with your evil deed!"

"Piss of shi..."

Before the man could finish speaking, his body was sliced into two in a perfect line that he didn’t even notice what had happened until it was too late.

In less than a breath time, the man’s body separated from each other and fell on the ground, he died on the spot.

Immediately, fear overwhelmed all the Farmers except Aegon, as he had an expressionless gaze.

A man had just died before them, not not by a monster; which was the usual, but by something they couldn’t see, something they couldn’t comprehend.

[Challenger 79 has died and his soul has been sent to the void of the Abyss]

The mysterious voice spoke again and cold chills ran down the spine of the Farmers, with the sole exception of Aegon that it.

[Now, where was I?]

[Ahh... yes. You must find this person and put them to death if you value your ’precious’ lives!]

[If such a person doesn’t die, you will all die together and your souls will be forgotten!]

[You have one hour!]

The voice vanished after it had said its terms. It was just like the first time, it speaks and exits.

There was a moment of silence after the voice had stopped talking. Every farmer’s eyes were on the corpse on the ground.

In their minds they thought; if they had even said so much as a word, going against the mysterious voice, they would have been the one on the ground.

Just then, a single voice spoke out.

"So what should we do? Start killing ourselves?"

"That wasn’t what it said." a different voice replied, a female voice. "The reason was that someone had gone against the process of the challenge, and that person should be put to death."

"So who is the person? How do we find them? It is not as if they would just give themselves up."

It was true, the instructions didn’t even make sense to begin with. It was not as though there was something they shouldn’t have done that would prompt this situation.

The Farmers were all in a state of panic with the idea that they were being timed.

They had no way to bring the person out, hell, they didn’t even know what kind of crime such a person had committed.

With this, the majority of the Farmers got together in groups of three and began to speak amongst themselves, checking who had done something they shouldn’t.

Of course, Nyra and her party were among the groups as they went over from the beginning, from the time they set up to find the pedestal crystal, after then had divided into groups and to the point they reunited again.

They were in a brainstorm.

Meanwhile, Aegon stood alone at the back of a certain group. He didn’t join them in their discussion but simply thought within himself.

It was at this moment that he just realized.

’Is it me?’ he was almost convinced that he was the person the voice spoke about.

’Come to think of it, after I killed that massive monster and looked above, the holographic image wasn’t working anymore.’

’I thought it was just a glitch in the system but it turns out it wasn’t. My ability [Colossal Gate] must have caused it to be like that.’

The thoughts were deep and were coming to make sense. The image was normal, and counting the time even after he started fighting the massive monster.

But after the collision of the celestial bodies, that was when the image was distributed.

Everything made sense, but that alone couldn’t be a solid reason.

’Come to think of it, the hole that was left after the collision was massive.’

’It is possible that I not only killed a monster, but had destroyed the ring itself. And perhaps not just the first ring but the entire seven of them."

The reasoning hit Aegon very hard as he knew there was no other reason; this was it. He had destroyed a part of the seven rings making it impossible for them to be moved.

’That was why the pedestal crystal didn’t work again after the shockwave, just like Chrome had said.’

Aegon brought everything together and had finally solved the puzzle. He had already concluded with ninety percent he was the one who was supposed to die.

Knowing this, he raised his head and thought inwardly:

’Looks like this is the best time to test how the return stone works.’

He would leave and wouldn’t come back here, instead will enter the Abyss and perhaps the real one this time.

While Aegon was thinking of his master plan, the crowd of Farmers had already come to a conclusion in their discussion and then turned around, facing Aegon, his eyes on them, while was still speaking.

"The only person who we didn’t see doing a lot of things, is him."

They had asked each other and found no wrongs in themselves, which left only one person, Aegon.

"It’s definitely him. He must be put to death."
