30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 158: Unexpected News
"Alex, don’t you think our parents’ attitudes have greatly changed?" Lily couldn’t help but say, "They weren’t like this when we were kids."
"My father was wrong in how he treated your family," Alex said, holding her hand tightly in his own. "I hope that after we get married, our families can resolve their differences."
"Mm."
"Does it suddenly feel like our marriage carries much responsibility?" Alex smiled warmly, his voice gentle, but something else was in his tone.
It was as if there was a hidden meaning behind his words.
Lily looked at him in surprise, wanting to ask what he meant but remaining silent.
"Lily, sit tight."
Suddenly, Alex’s expression changed. He released her hand and gripped the steering wheel, speeding rapidly as the car surged.
"What’s going on?"
Lily asked in surprise, glancing behind them. She saw three black sedans speeding after them, tailing closely.
As Alex sped up, so did the three cars behind them, seemingly trying to catch up and block them off.
Lily’s heart raced. Could this be Ethan?
Was Ethan seeking revenge after she had criticized him?
Alex drove faster, and Lily’s nausea returned, but she held it in as best as she could.
"It’s my father," Alex said, focused on the road as he maneuvered the car along the highway, his voice low. "He suspended all my work, thinking I would give in. Now he’s trying to have me confined."
"Confined?" Lily was shocked, her stomach churning. She hadn’t eaten anything, yet she felt like vomiting again.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Lily clutched her stomach. Her face turned pale as beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
Alex was too focused on shaking off the cars behind them to notice her condition. He continued, "My father disapproves of our relationship. He still wants me to get back together with Nuannuan."
Lily looked into the rearview mirror, seeing that the three black sedans were still closely following them, turning the highway into a racetrack.
Lily leaned back, feeling ill, biting her lip hard to suppress the urge to vomit.
"Lily, are you okay?" Alex suddenly glanced at her and saw her pale face. He was shocked and immediately slammed on the brakes, pulling the car over to the side of the road.
Lily couldn’t hold it in any longer. She rushed out of the car and dry heaved, only managing to bring up some stomach acid. Her stomach was empty.
"Are you alright?" Alex asked with concern. "I shouldn’t have driven so fast. I forgot about your weak stomach."
Lily bent over, still dry heaving, and waved her hand to signal she was okay.
She hadn’t eaten anything irritating these past few days, so why was she vomiting?
Could her stomach problems be getting worse?
Screech—
The three black sedans stopped, surrounding Alex’s sports car.
Several tall, muscular men in black suits and sunglasses rushed out of the cars, approaching them and nodding respectfully. "Young Master, the Master requests that you return home."
Alex glanced at them but said nothing. He pulled some tissues from the car and handed them to Lily, asking with concern, "Are you okay? Should I take you to the hospital?"
"Young Master, please don’t make this difficult for us. The Master requests that you return," the men in black repeated.
Lily wiped her mouth with the tissue, frowning in worry as she looked at Alex. Alex smiled reassuringly, "Don’t worry about me."
Was Uncle Bill going to be this extreme?
Even if she didn’t match Alex in terms of social status or career, that didn’t give Uncle Bill the right to confine his son.
"Young Master, the Master also requests that Miss Anderson come with you."
Lily and Alex exchanged a confused glance. Alex took her hand and led her into one of the black sedans. "Looks like we’ll have to visit our hometown another time."
"Mm." Lily lowered her head. What did Bill Carter want to do now? Humiliate her again?
"With me here, I won’t let my father repeat anything hurtful."
"I’m fine."
Lily smiled, trying to appear composed, still feeling extremely unwell. She clutched her aching stomach.
Back to Carter Residence—
Lily was holding Ethan’s hand the last time she entered the Carter residence. This time, she had Alex by her side.
The house was bustling with servants. Alex led Lily inside, but Bill Carter was nowhere to be seen.
A butler approached them and respectfully said, "The Master had to step out to attend to the centennial celebration preparations. He instructed the Young Master to wait for him here."
"I understand."
Alex replied calmly, guiding the weak Lily to sit on the sofa. He picked up the phone and dialed a number. "Elliot, grab your medical kit and come to my house."
After hanging up, Alex noticed Lily’s puzzled look and smiled. "Elliot is a friend from university in England. He’s a doctor."
"I just had a full check-up recently. I’m perfectly healthy," Lily said.
Alex sat beside her, pulling her into his arms. "It doesn’t hurt to have him check on you. Would you like something to drink?"
Lily shook her head. "I don’t want anything."
She rested her head on his shoulder, closing her eyes as her stomach ached.
Soon, Elliot arrived at the Carter residence. He was a tall, clean-cut young man wearing a white jacket and carrying a high-end medical kit. Upon seeing the couple on the sofa, he whistled, "So, this is the legendary childhood betrothal, huh?"
Lily barely opened her heavy eyelids to look at Elliot. Alex, slightly irritated, warned him, "Don’t joke around. Just check on her. She’s had stomach problems for a while, and I drove too fast earlier, which made her sick."
"She probably just got car sick. Why are you so worked up you had to call me?" Elliot teased Alex, but he opened his medical kit and examined Lily.
Lily kept her eyes closed, feeling uncomfortable.
After a few moments, Elliot’s expression grew more serious. He took Lily’s pulse using a traditional method, then looked up at Alex with a grave expression.
Sensing something was wrong, Alex gently shook Lily. "Lily, I’m going to have someone take you upstairs to rest in my room."
"Mm."
Lily obediently nodded, and two maids helped her upstairs.
"Elliot, let’s talk in my study."
Alex led his friend to the study.
Once inside, Alex waited for Elliot to enter before closing and locking the door. His voice was low and severe. "Elliot, what’s wrong? Is there something wrong with her health?"
"Alex, wow, I always thought you were a gentleman," Elliot said with a smirk, teasing him. "Turns out you’re just as sneaky as the rest of us..."
"What are you trying to say?"
"Well, I’m not an obstetrics expert, but from what I can tell, your girlfriend is about three or four weeks pregnant." Elliot’s tone turned more professional as he continued.
Then, he added, "But if I remember correctly, you were still with Alice at that time."
"She’s pregnant?!" Alex stared at Elliot in shock, his heart nearly stopping.
Lily was pregnant?!
Three or four weeks...
That was before he had won her back from the gambling boat...
She had still been with Ethan Blackwood, his mistress...
The child.
She was carrying Ethan’s child...
A wave of darkness washed over Alex, and he nearly stumbled before collapsing into the chair by the desk, his hands anxiously pressing against his forehead.
He didn’t care about her past, didn’t care that she had been Ethan Blackwood’s mistress. But how could she be pregnant? They were about to get married...
How could she be carrying Ethan’s child at a time like this?
"Elliot, don’t tell anyone about her pregnancy," Alex finally said, lifting his head and making a decision, his tone calm. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Don’t tell anyone?" Elliot looked at him in surprise. "Why not?"
"It’s only three or four weeks. A medical abortion shouldn’t harm her too much, right?" Alex continued, ignoring Elliot’s question.
"..." Elliot stared at him, shocked. "You’re planning to abort the child? Alex, don’t tell me... the child isn’t yours?!"
Was Alex seriously going to marry a woman carrying someone else’s child? This was unbelievable.
"I’m going to marry her!" Alex suddenly stood from his chair, his reaction intense. "I can’t let anything disrupt our wedding."
"Alex, you could have any woman you want. Why put yourself through this..."
"I only want her!" Alex shouted, then forced himself to calm down. He spoke clearly, "Elliot, she just had a full medical check-up a few days ago, and nothing was discovered. It seems she doesn’t know about the pregnancy either. If we proceed with an abortion..."
"Alex, you’re not planning to make her have an abortion without telling her, are you?" Elliot asked, shaking his head. "She’ll definitely feel something. You can’t keep her in the dark forever. The child is already inside her."
"Then what do you expect me to do?!" Alex shouted, kicking a nearby chair in frustration. "Just yesterday, she was still entangled with that man. If she finds out she’s pregnant and refuses to marry me, what am I supposed to do?!"
He had gone through so much just to keep Lily by his side.
They were so close to getting married, but now she was pregnant with Ethan Blackwood’s child. What was he supposed to do?!
He wouldn’t give up.
Even if it killed him, he wouldn’t give her up.
Elliot had known Alex for a long time. Alex was always known as a refined and gentlemanly man. He had never seen Alex this agitated.
"Alex, calm down..." Elliot said, trying to soothe him. "Think things through carefully. Medical abortions are the least harmful to the mother within the first two months. However..."
"However, what?"
"The problem with medical abortions is that sometimes they aren’t fully effective. It’s safer to have a surgical abortion. The sooner, the better. The longer you wait, the more harm it harms the mother."
"But you won’t be able to keep it a secret forever. She’ll figure it out eventually. It’s best if she agrees to terminate the pregnancy herself," Elliot advised.
Two months...
"We’re announcing our engagement this weekend. After we register for marriage, we’ll leave for abroad. Once she’s my wife, there’ll be no reason for her to keep the child," Alex said, regaining his composure.
That’s right; things have yet to reach the worst point.
Once they were married, Lily would have no reason to keep the child, no reason to think about Ethan Blackwood anymore...
They could have their own children.
"You better hope she doesn’t visit a doctor in the next few days," Elliot said helplessly, shrugging.
Was Alex so deeply in love that he would marry this woman, even knowing she was carrying another man’s child?
"She won’t leave my sight until we’re married."
"Okay," Elliot shrugged. I’m not sure if I should congratulate you or not."
Alex looked at him and said calmly, "You’ve never experienced what it’s like to truly love someone."
"To love someone so much that it turns into obsession? No thanks, I’d rather not experience that," Elliot said, shaking his head in mock horror.
