30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 238: A Ruthless Father
Lily had previously worked in the media industry and was highly perceptive about how paparazzi operated. Unless someone had leaked information, every reporter couldn’t mobilize overnight.
"Understood, Miss Anderson," Helen replied, immediately picking up her phone to instruct others to investigate.
The sheer number of reporters outside was overwhelming. The bodyguards pushed back the crowd, creating a narrow path for their car to enter the Clearwater Bay community.
When they arrived at Ethan’s villa, the once-luxurious and lively mansion seemed desolate, shrouded in a sense of decline. The maids had stopped working, gathering in small groups and whispering anxiously.
The grand, gilded European-style villa now exuded an atmosphere of loss and disarray, as though it had been defeated overnight.
Nanny was sitting in the living room, crying uncontrollably. When she saw Lily enter, she quickly rushed over. "Miss Anderson, how is Mr. Blackwood?"
"I already told you on the phone—he’s out of danger and will gradually recover," Lily said, stepping forward to gently pat Nanny’s shoulder. "Did you stay up all night? Please rest for a while."
But Nanny shook her head.
How could she possibly rest at a time like this?
With Mr. Blackwood incapacitated, Blackwood Enterprise was leaderless, and even the household felt it was falling apart. The maids had no energy to carry on with their tasks.
Nanny had watched Ethan grow up. Seeing him caught in such a catastrophic situation consumed her with worry. She couldn’t even visit him in the military hospital, further amplifying her helplessness.
"Nanny, Mr. Blackwood’s father wants to video call Miss Anderson. Please prepare a room," Helen Wang interjected, walking over.
Nanny’s eyes widened in shock. "Mr. Blackwood’s father already knows?"
That could only mean one thing: a storm was coming. Everyone was bound to get scolded—though scolding would be the least of their worries. The genuine concern was whether anyone would make it out alive.
Mr. Blackwood’s father was infamous for ruthlessness, treating human lives as disposable.
Nanny prepared the home theater room, turning on the lights so it was brightly illuminated. Helen adjusted the equipment at the front of the room.
Lily sat on the sofa, feeling a growing sense of unease.
"It’s connected, Miss Anderson," Helen suddenly announced.
The massive theater screen remained dark, with no image displayed. However, Ethan’s father’s powerful and resonant voice boomed through the speakers.
"Heh, you’ve been crying. Your eyes are as red as a rabbit’s," his voice noted, calm yet laced with indifference.
The tone was steady, as though nothing had happened, yet it carried an icy undercurrent.
Helen, standing off-camera, frantically gestured at Lily, mouthing silent instructions for her to remain composed.
Receiving the hint, Lily stood up from the sofa and bowed respectfully. Her voice was hoarse but polite. "Mr. Blackwood."
"Heh, girl," the elder Blackwood chuckled lightly as if conversing casually. "Last time I saw you, you were like a wildcat. How have you become so docile now?"
Even without raising his voice, Mr. Blackwood had an uncanny ability to instill fear in others.
Lily remained silent, knowing better than to respond.
"Sit down. After all, you’re carrying my grandchild," he said nonchalantly, his voice exuding a natural authority that demanded obedience.
Lily nodded and sat back on the sofa quietly.
"With the child you’re carrying, the Blackwood family will not mistreat you. You’ll have all the wealth you could ever want," Mr. Blackwood continued, his tone icy. "Even if Ethan dies, it doesn’t matter. With this child, you’ll live a life of luxury."
The sound of a clinking glass echoed through the speakers.
That sound reminded Lily of the time in Denmark when Ethan had been beaten half to death on his father’s orders. Despite the brutality, Mr. Blackwood had sipped his wine leisurely.
And now, he was saying it didn’t matter if Ethan died...
Is he really talking about his own son?!
Lily’s polite demeanor faltered. Her expression grew cold as she replied, "If that’s all you wanted to say, Mr. Blackwood, then I don’t think we need to continue this conversation."
She stood up, intending to leave, but his low, chilling laughter came through the speakers before she could turn.
"The wildcat is still a wildcat, I see," he remarked, amused.
Perhaps, after reaching a certain level of power, one becomes indifferent to everything—even one’s own child’s life becomes trivial.
"Let’s get to the point. Can someone tell me why Ethan decided to kidnap so many people, causing such a commotion that even the central government got involved?" Mr. Blackwood’s calm voice carried a slight metallic clink, likely from setting down his glass. He sounded utterly composed, as though discussing the weather, with no trace of anger.
Lily lowered her gaze, unsure of how to respond.
Ethan had kidnapped all those people because of her to find a cure for the AuroraVirus she had contracted. But now, the situation has spiraled out of control; the media has exposed everything, and the military and the central government are involved.
Seeing her silence, Mr. Blackwood continued, "This morning, a foolhardy reporter approached me and asked a very amusing question. Do you know what he asked?"
Lily remained silent, still unwilling to speak.
She didn’t understand Mr. Blackwood’s tactics or intentions.
She suddenly heard the sound of a heavy body hitting the floor through the speakers.
Following that, a trembling male voice stammered, "Your third son has been torturing and imprisoning dozens of hostages, prompting an investigation by the central government; how do you feel about this?"
Has the news already reached international media?
Someone was clearly orchestrating this behind the scenes, but who was the mastermind pulling the strings?
As soon as the man finished speaking, a deafening gunshot rang out through the speakers.
"Ah!"
The man let out a blood-curdling scream, followed by the sound of a body collapsing heavily to the floor.
Lily shuddered involuntarily.
She didn’t need to think twice to know that Mr. Blackwood had just executed the man on the spot.
His ruthlessness was unparalleled.
"Wildcat, care to explain why Ethan decided to tarnish my reputation in China?" Despite what had just happened, Mr. Blackwood’s voice remained calm and indifferent, though it carried a chilling undertone.
Tarnish his reputation?
He wanted her to explain?
"Is your only concern whether your reputation has been tarnished?" Lily asked, suppressing her anger. Her tone grew sharp. "Have you even asked about his condition? He escaped an explosion and only made it through the critical stage."
Yet all Mr. Blackwood cared about was how Ethan’s actions had affected him.
Her indignation was met with a faint, dismissive chuckle from Mr. Blackwood.
"If my son can’t overcome something like this, then it only proves he’s not up to par," he said coldly.
Lily thought she had misheard.
How could someone be so indifferent to their own child’s life?
"Are you talking about your son or just some insignificant ant on the street?" she asked.
"Does it matter? Survival of the fittest—that’s the rule of life," he replied, his voice firm and detached. "From your hoarse voice, you’ve been crying quite a bit."
To him, his son’s life was just another example of the strong preying on the weak.
His coldness exceeded anything Lily could have imagined.
He didn’t care whether Ethan lived or died.
"Will you help him?" Lily asked directly, cutting to the heart of the matter. She didn’t want to waste any more time with him.
If the conversation continued, she feared she’d lose her temper again, like she had in the Danish church when she called him a scumbag.
"Wildcat, are you hoping I’ll step in to help? I’ve already sent people to handle it. I won’t let my son stand trial—it would be too humiliating for me," Mr. Blackwood laughed. "However..."
"However, what?"
"However, you’d better explain why Ethan imprisoned and tortured those hostages. Was it business? Revenge?" His tone suddenly turned icy, his words carrying a menacing edge.
Lily felt the pressure in his voice, and her gaze instinctively shifted to Helen.
Helen was already drenched in cold sweat. Frantically shaking her head, she signaled Lily not to reveal the truth.
If Mr. Blackwood had learned that the entire situation revolved around Lily, Aiko Nakamura, and Ethan’s tangled relationships, he would have been furious.
Lily remained silent.
Mr. Blackwood’s sharp instincts didn’t miss a beat. "Wildcat, does this have something to do with you?"
Lily’s eyes flickered.
"Men falter when distracted by women," he sneered coldly. "Wildcat, I actually like you. After you give birth, why not leave on your own? I’ll make sure your future is comfortable."
Although his tone sounded like a suggestion, it was clear he wasn’t giving her a choice.
"Leave on my own?"
"Someone like you doesn’t belong by Ethan’s side. Either leave voluntarily or leave this world entirely," Mr. Blackwood said, his voice cuttingly cold, revealing his barely contained anger.
"You’re going to kill me?" Lily asked, staring at the blank theater screen.
"Only if you disobey," he replied coldly. "I’ve already sent people to bring Ethan back. He’ll have to explain himself to me properly."
Explain himself?
That would likely mean another brutal beating.
In Denmark, Ethan had been beaten to the point of breaking three ribs simply for not greeting his father correctly.
Mr. Blackwood’s concern wasn’t for Ethan’s health but that Ethan had tarnished his reputation in China.
Even if Ethan avoided standing trial, he wouldn’t escape his father’s wrath.
"There’s no need for your help," Lily suddenly said, her tone cold.
"What did you just say?" Mr. Blackwood sounded momentarily caught off guard by her abrupt shift.
"I said we don’t need your help. I can handle things here. Stop trying to control Ethan’s life. He’s not your tool, and you can’t treat him like a puppet," Lily said firmly.
Helen froze, her jaw dropping in shock. Is Miss Anderson insane?!
What was she saying? She was scolding Mr. Blackwood?!
There was a long silence on the other end of the line. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Lily pressed her lips together, waiting quietly. Finally, Mr. Blackwood’s voice came through, colder than ever. "Do you even know who you’re talking to?"
Helen, panicking, gestured wildly at Lily, bowing deeply to suggest she apologize.
Is Miss Anderson out of her mind?
The man she spoke to was the head of the Blackwood family, feared across Europe, a billionaire whose power was unmatched.
Especially given Mr. Blackwood’s reputation for ruthlessness, did Lily have a death wish?
"I know exactly who I’m talking to—a cold, selfish, and heartless father," Lily said, her hoarse voice laced with defiance. "I won’t leave Ethan; I don’t need your help. We’ll handle this ourselves."
"Handle it yourself?" Mr. Blackwood’s tone dripped with disdain. "Let’s see if you can solve this mess before my people arrive."
With that, the line went silent.
Helen collapsed onto the sofa, her legs weak. "Miss Anderson, you scared me to death! How could you speak to Mr. Blackwood like that?"
"Do you even know? Even Mr. Blackwood only dares call his father’ the old man’ in private. You’ve caused trouble now!" Helen exclaimed, clutching her chest as if trying to calm her racing heart.
