30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 295: Demand for Answers
Otherwise, why would he drive away the moment he saw her? Wasn’t he done with her? Why was he driving behind her? If he wanted to disappear from her life, why couldn’t he disappear completely?
Lily ran after the car, ignoring the countless vehicles around her.
Damn woman!
Why was she chasing him? What the hell was wrong with her? Ethan Blackwood angrily slammed the accelerator, trying to speed away. Still, the traffic ahead was at a standstill, and there was no way to break through.
The cars behind him inched forward slowly, and she was weaving through the traffic, running toward him.
Suddenly, she disappeared from his sight, swallowed by the sea of cars.
Where was she?!
Ethan’s face turned pale. He shoved the car door open and got out, scanning the area for her. He walked past car after car, searching for her. Had she been hit? Or was it the AuroraVirus acting up?
Where the hell was she?! Damn it, why was she chasing him in such heavy traffic? Did she think she was invincible?
Ethan tugged at his tie, anxiety building as he moved through the traffic. Moments later, a few cars over, he spotted Lily standing up from the ground, clutching her wrist, her brows furrowed in pain.
Before Ethan could decide to leave, Lily’s gaze found him. She looked past the cars and locked eyes with him.
They stood there, staring at each other, separated by several vehicles.
Shock filled Lily’s eyes as she gazed at him, frozen.
Ethan clenched his lips tightly and turned away, walking off.
"Ethan Blackwood!" Lily shouted without hesitation and ran after him, ignoring the cars around her.
"Bang!"
Ethan quickly got back into his car and slammed the door shut. Almost immediately, the door was kicked from the outside. Lily stood there, yelling at him, "Ethan Blackwood, get out of the car!"
Ethan glanced down at her hand. She must have fallen earlier—her wrist was bleeding.
Ignoring her, he gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles white as veins bulged on his hands. His face remained cold and indifferent as he listened to her repeatedly kicking his car door.
"Ethan Blackwood, if you’re a man, come out here!" Lily shouted at the top of her lungs.
Coward. He was clearly following her, yet he refused to show himself.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Her kicks landed on the car door, each louder than the last.
Around them, people stuck in traffic began to get out of their cars to watch the commotion. Some even held up their phones to record Lily.
This woman... Did she think her name wasn’t already plastered across enough gossip columns?
Ethan cursed under his breath, reaching for the door handle, but then hesitated. Instead, he turned and opened the opposite door.
He opened the door?
Seeing this, Lily quickly ran to the other side of the car. Just as Ethan stepped out, Lily threw herself into his arms, knocking him backward so hard that his back slammed against the car.
Ethan instinctively raised his arms to hold her but froze in mid-air.
He couldn’t hold her.
Not anymore. He couldn’t let himself embrace her now.
He couldn’t allow himself that weakness...
"Lily, are you insane?!" Ethan roared, glaring at her as he stood before the car.
"Don’t you dare leave!" Lily reflexively grabbed his arm but then, as if realizing something, quickly let go as if she had been burned. A smear of blood was left on his sleeve.
Her hand hovered as if she wanted to grab him again, but it fell to her side. She stood there, breathing heavily, her face pale, staring at her blood-streaked hand with a look of helplessness.
She looked so fragile.
"Get in the car! Stop standing here making a spectacle of yourself for everyone to film!" Ethan snapped, his tone harsh as he climbed back into the car, slamming the door shut like he couldn’t stand the sight of her.
Lily pressed her lips together, her nose stinging with the urge to cry. She followed him into the car.
Traffic ahead remained at a standstill.
Ethan’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. He didn’t spare her a single glance.
Lily remained silent, and the car was filled with suffocating silence.
She raised her eyes, trying to swallow her emotions, when a box of tissues was suddenly thrown into her lap. The box hit her hands with a slight sting before it landed.
Ethan pulled his hand back after tossing the tissues.
Lily blinked, momentarily stunned, then grabbed a tissue and began wiping the blood from her hand. The blood, however, was sticky and hard to clean.
"Thud!"
Ethan’s long fingers reached for another item—a packet of wet wipes, which he tossed into her lap.
Lily looked at him in surprise. He still hadn’t glanced her way, his eyes glued to the road ahead, yet...
"Don’t get blood on my car," Ethan said stiffly, his tone unnatural.
"Why didn’t you just use a different car to follow me, like last time?" Lily asked softly, pulling out a wet wipe to clean her blood-stained hand.
"What?!" Ethan finally turned his cold gaze toward her, full of disdain.
"Why are you following me?" Lily raised her head, her eyes meeting his dark, unfathomable ones.
"Hah." Ethan let out a cold laugh as if she’d just told a joke. "Who’s following you?! Lily, you’re a woman I dumped! Do you really think I, Ethan Blackwood, would bother following someone I’ve discarded?"
He spoke loudly as though raising his voice would make his words more convincing.
Lily stared at him in silence.
Discarded... Did he think she was trash? Something worthless he could throw away?
"Then why are you here?" Lily asked, struggling to hold back the tears threatening to spill.
"I’m here to pick someone up!"
"Then why did you leave when you saw me?"
"I left because I’d already picked them up! How was I supposed to know you’d be here?!" Ethan shouted, his voice filled with disdain, his face icy cold.
Who in the world was important enough for the president of Blackwood Enterprise’s Asia-Pacific division to personally pick up? Lily glanced at the empty back seat. "Where’s the person you picked up?"
"I dropped them off!" Ethan said that without missing a beat, his quick story changed, making him seem absurdly childish.
"Dropped off where?" Lily pressed.
"Who I dropped off has nothing to do with you!" Ethan glared at her, his voice rising another notch. "Lily! Stop clinging to me the moment you see me, will you?!"
"Is it your new lover?" Lily asked suddenly.
"What?!"
Ethan’s gaze faltered. Why had the topic shifted to a new lover? What was she trying to say?!
"That lawyer... She has beautiful straight hair," Lily said, lowering her head as she wiped her hands. Her voice was calm, but her chest tightened painfully. "Is she your new lover?"
The lawyer? The one he kissed that day? Did she have straight hair? Who the hell cared if it was straight or curly?
"Yes!" Ethan replied coldly, glaring at her hands as she slowly wiped them clean. She was so slow that blood kept seeping out. Could she not even clean her hands properly?
Yes...
Lily’s hand trembled violently. Her eyes stung, but she forced herself to remain calm. "Do you love her?"
The blaring honks of horns ahead drowned out her voice.
Ethan acted like he hadn’t heard her, starting the car and driving forward as traffic cleared. Once out of the congestion, he turned to glare at her. "Are you not getting out?!"
"Do you love her?" Lily asked stubbornly.
"Why are you so annoying?! If you don’t get out, I’ll throw you out!" Ethan shouted.
"Fine, throw me out," Lily said calmly, showing no fear.
She balled up the bloodied tissues and neatly wrapped them in the wipe packet, not littering.
This woman! Was she afraid of nothing now? Did she think he couldn’t do anything to her?
Why couldn’t he control himself and stay away from her?
Ethan tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his voice harsh. "Lily! My patience has its limits. Get out before I lose it and hit you!"
If she didn’t leave now...
He wouldn’t be able to control himself.
Lily... She had no idea how much she still tempted him.
"Fine, hit me," Lily said in an even tone, no longer yelling at him like before.
Her calmness made it even harder for him to handle her.
"Lily—"
"Why are you following me?" Lily raised her eyes to meet his fierce gaze, staring straight into the depths of his soul. "Why are you following me? Are you worried about me?"
"Who would worry about you?!"
"Then why did you get out of the car earlier? Why did you come back to look for me?"
"I..." Ethan faltered, her unblinking gaze pinning him in place.
"Do you pity me? Or... do you still love me?" Lily asked directly, holding his gaze as if searching for the answers deep within.
His expression froze, and the next second, he turned his eyes away.
"Look at me and tell me," Lily said, raising her hand as if to touch his face but stopping before she could. She didn’t want to stain him with her blood.
This woman... She was getting smarter!
Ethan turned his face away, refusing to look at her. After a long pause, he turned back with a glare, his tone defensive and awkward. "Why should I look at you? Do you think your eyes are that pretty?!"
Whenever they argued, he always resorted to childish remarks, utterly immature.
"Are that lawyer’s eyes prettier than mine?" Lily asked. "Does kissing her feel better than kissing me? Does holding her feel better than holding me?"
Who even remembered what it felt like to hold that lawyer?
"Yes! She’s sexier than you! Prettier than you! Happy now? Get out of the car!" Ethan snapped, his voice filled with impatience.
Sexier, prettier... healthier.
If that were true, why was he following her?
"Lily! If you don’t get out now, I’ll hit you!" Ethan shouted, raising his fist as if to strike her.
Lily looked straight at him, unmoving, not even blinking as she waited for the blow, bracing herself for the pain she expected...
