Chapter 144: Uproar at the Tian Family

"Fry a few more eggs, stir-fry some bacon, we’ve come such a long way and we’re already hungry," said Xu Minghui, not one to be trifled with.

"You, you’re dreaming." The eldest sister-in-law of the Tian Family looked at them as if they were crazy.

"Heh, if you’re not willing to do it, I’m great at killing chickens." Xu Hai picked up a stick, ready to hit the hen pecking at the vegetable leaves in the courtyard.

"Stop them, quickly stop them," shouted the Tian Family’s wife loudly, completely not anticipating that Xu Hai would directly make a move.

The family only raised two chickens, and the eggs were to be exchanged for grain. If Xu Hai really killed them, it would be a huge loss.

"Big brother, don’t! There are only these two chickens at home," Xu Chunmei was also shocked, hurriedly stopping Xu Hai. In the Tian Family’s wife’s eyes, the value of those two hens definitely exceeded her own.

If Xu Hai and the others really killed the chickens, who knows how much this old woman would torment them.

"Humph, where’s Tian Zhuang? If he doesn’t come out, I’ll smash your shabby house to pieces," Xu Hai said coldly, giving his sister a disdainful look. They had come all this way to back her, yet this was her reaction—being bullied served her right.

"Let’s see who dares!" came the voice of several brothers of the Tian Family, though Tian Zhuang himself was not there.

"What’s there to be afraid of?" Xu Hai sneered, poking the fence with his stick. Many farming families couldn’t afford walls and used fences as makeshift barriers.

"Oh dear, this fence is so flimsy, it fell over with just a poke," said Xu Hai with a smile.

"Who knows how long this fence has been here, and they haven’t even bothered to replace the bamboo slats. So lazy," Xu Minghui said, playing along.

"What do you mean?" Tian Gou, the eldest of the Tian Family, looked at Xu Hai and his group with displeasure, particularly at the Xu father and son. As for Xu Jiang and Xu Po, they gave all the chances for action to the father and son, as their mother had instructed them to follow their elder brother’s lead when they arrived.

"Isn’t it obvious? We’re here to cause trouble," Xu Minghui whispered.

"Exactly, what kind of life has my sister had since marrying into your family? A good girl turned like this, bearing kids for Tian Zhuang, and yet he still goes out gambling," Xu Hai sneered. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Xu Hai’s words moved Xu Chunmei greatly; after all, her family cared about her.

"Our third brother’s not here," Tian Gou said angrily.

"Since he’s not here, I want chicken. Hurry up and slaughter one or else I won’t be responsible if this stick ends up breaking something," Xu Hai said shamelessly.

"You’re dreaming, this is the Tian Family, you think we’re afraid of you?" Tian Gou and his brothers also grabbed sticks, looking murderously at Xu Hai’s group.

"Come, let’s see who’s afraid of whom. You guys hold them off; I’m going to smash up the Old Tian Family’s place," Xu Hai instructed his sons and brothers.

"Alright, go on, big brother," Xu Po nodded. They might not have many other skills, but they had strength from years of labor, and they didn’t fear the lazy and poor Tian Family.

The Old Xu Family’s life was much better than the Tian Family’s. Xu family sons were much stronger than Tian family sons. Holding them off was no big deal.

"Stop him, stop him!" cried the Tian Family’s wife loudly. No one expected Xu Hai to act so quickly, charging into the room where Tian Zhuang lived and slamming the door shut.

Xu Po and his brother held them back, snatching the sticks from their hands. The Tian brothers couldn’t hold out for long and were soon overpowered.

Xu Minghui wasn’t one to hold back; with a stick as thick as an arm, he knocked Tian Lao’er down.

Seeing the situation poorly, the other brothers dared not confront Xu Jiang’s brothers and were chased around the courtyard by Xu Minghui with a stick.

While chasing them, Xu Minghui didn’t remain idle. He "accidentally" smashed everything in the courtyard to pieces.

"Stop it, everyone stop!" The Tian Family’s wife was heartbroken. The Old Xu Family was indeed a scourge.

Meanwhile, sounds of screams came from Tian Zhuang’s room as the door was locked from the outside by Xu Hai, who had brought a lock from home, ensuring that Tian Zhuang couldn’t escape.

"Big brother, open the door, stop!" shouted Xu Chunmei from outside. Although Tian Zhuang was her husband, how could she not care?

The formidable force displayed by the Xu Family left the Tian Family intimidated.

Even Tian Fang was scared, realizing that her uncles had come not to help, but to cause trouble. Seeing her grandma’s grim expression, she realized it was all over. When her uncles left, life would be much harder.

Xu Hai paid no mind to Xu Chunmei; he had long wanted to deal with Tian Zhuang, and he wasn’t about to miss this opportunity.

By the time Xu Hai emerged, chaos reigned in the courtyard; many things were smashed, and a chicken was even held in Xu Minghui’s hand.

"Alright, now let’s talk about your family’s matter," Xu Hai said with a grin, in high spirits as Tian Zhuang lay beaten and motionless on the bed.

"My family’s matter, you have the audacity to mention it after smashing so much? If you don’t pay, you won’t be leaving," the Tian Family’s wife shouted, angrier than she had ever been.

"Compensation? Madam Tian, do you believe I won’t continue smashing?" Xu Minghui said with a grin, knowing what he smashed wasn’t worth much while they had hidden away the valuable items. Anything left outside wasn’t good anyway.

"You dare; you’re nothing but bandits," said the elder daughter-in-law of the Tian Family, shocked by the Xu Family’s brutality.

"Heh, try coming after my family again, and next time I’ll break Tian Zhuang’s leg," Xu Hai sneered.

Tian Zhuang was really not worth the trouble; the Old Tian Family was just asking to be taught a lesson.

"You dare," Madam Tian looked frightened.

"Try me," Xu Hai was unstoppable, disregarding anyone else.

"Aunt, our family has split, and grandpa and grandma live with us. They have no money, things concerning uncle, you’ll have to handle yourself," said Xu Minghui, throwing the chicken into the yard with a look of disdain at Xu Chunmei, who couldn’t even stand up straight with her family backing her.

This uproar certainly strained family ties. Xu Minghui didn’t care whether this kinship with his aunt’s family lasted or not.

"You’re trying to drive me to death; how can you do this?" Xu Chunmei sat on the ground, crying.

"Sister, you’re blaming us," Xu Po looked at Xu Chunmei, feeling disappointed.
