Chapter 161: Realizing the Heart’s Intent

Pushed by Xue Yan to watch a movie, Xu Mumu helplessly glanced over at Yin Yang.

She found that he seemed not to care at all, still wearing a faint smile, not as fake as before.

"Let’s go, the movie is about to start." Yin Yang smiled at Xu Mumu. She looked really nice today, and people around kept glancing at her, which he subtly blocked.

"Okay." Xu Mumu nodded.

In the theater, Xu Mumu shared half of her sunflower seeds with Yin Yang.

As Yian Yang looked at the seeds placed in his hand, her hand brushed against his, sending his heart racing. Her hand felt soft, and her warmth lingered on it, leaving him a bit distracted.

Yin Yang secretly peeked at Xu Mumu, catching a glimpse of her side profile. The lighting wasn’t great here, and as the movie started, light fell on her face, rendering her beauty irresistible to him.

"Why are you looking at me? Is there something on my face?" Xu Mumu, sensing Yin Yang’s gaze, turned and asked in confusion.

"No, no, I just thought I saw a mosquito flying around." Yin Yang quickly shook his head, startled by her sudden turn.

"Oh, I see." Xu Mumu nodded. In such a dim place in summer, it’s normal to have mosquitoes.

The movie officially began, captivating her attention completely. It was one she’d seen before, yet she found it particularly engaging this time.

With Xu Mumu engrossed in the movie, Yin Yang remained a little distracted.

He realized he’d been paying too much attention to Xu Mumu and seemed to have developed feelings for her.

For her, he leveraged his connections to bring a tape recorder from abroad, a risky move. Yet he did it, and now, when Xu Mumu needed money, he proactively found work for her.

Even when his father was alive, he never went to such lengths for anyone, always putting himself first. But for Xu Mumu, he was doing so much, even he found it incredible.

As the movie ended, Xu Mumu still felt unsatisfied as it was really good and classic.

"What’s the matter? Are you feeling unwell?" Exiting the theater, Yin Yang still seemed distracted, and Xu Mumu asked with concern.

"It’s nothing, just thinking about something." Yin Yang shook his head, a little afraid to meet Xu Mumu’s eyes.

"Are you sure you’re okay?" Xu Mumu questioned hesitantly, as he didn’t seem fine; however, his face was flush, showing no obvious issues.

"Really, I’m fine, don’t worry. How about I treat you to dinner at a state-owned restaurant?" Yin Yang said, looking hopefully at Xu Mumu.

"I’m hungry too, but I can pay. Let me treat you as a thank you for all your help." Xu Mumu patted her pocketbook, speaking grandly.

"Alright." Yin Yang replied softly, not refusing.

After greeting Xue Yan, Xu Mumu and Yin Yang headed toward the state-owned restaurant as it was nearly noon and the streets were getting busier.

Arriving at the bustling state-owned restaurant, every table was occupied.

"We don’t have a seat." Xu Mumu looked at Yin Yang.

"No worries, we can wait a bit." Yin Yang responded nonchalantly.

"Alright then." Xu Mumu nodded.

"Mumu, are you here for a meal too?" Qin Liang was surprised to see Xu Mumu, and wondered if the man with her was her boyfriend.

"Yes, Uncle, when will a table be available?" Xu Mumu asked.

"Just a few more minutes, a table is almost done. Come in and wait." Qin Liang smiled, bringing them inside.

Everyone here knew Xu Mumu, and nobody objected as Qin Liang led her in.

"Little girl, what brings you to the state-owned restaurant today?" Master Yang poked his head out of the kitchen and asked jovially.

Master Yang quite liked Xu Mumu, as he had a daughter her age. Xu Mumu was smart and capable, which made him more fond of her. Whenever she bought food from the restaurant, he would always give her a little extra.

Though others might not notice, those working at the restaurant certainly did.

"We’re here in town for some errands, Master Yang, you always seem so busy." Watching Master Yang continuously working his spatula, Xu Mumu laughed.

"It’s only busy for a while each day, I thought you’d forgotten about us and weren’t visiting." He teased, smiling as he plated food which Qin Liang carried out.

While they were chatting, Xu Mumu noticed a familiar face entering the restaurant — her cousin Su Xiu, along with her boyfriend, Meng Shaohua.

Su Xiu noticed Xu Mumu immediately, and seeing her smile, her expression turned sour. Beside her, Meng Shaohua was left staring, entranced by Xu Mumu.

Having dressed up today, Xu Mumu looked even more captivating, grabbing even more attention.

Then, Su Xiu’s gaze fell on the man next to Xu Mumu, feeling a pang of disappointment. Why did Xu Mumu always seem to compete with her, and why did she always do better?

"Hey, Cousin, Meng! You’re here for lunch too?" Xu Mumu greeted with a smile, not bothered by Su Xiu’s staring at Yin Yang. His face naturally attracted admirers.

"Yes, Xu Mumu, and you are...? Will you introduce us?" Su Xiu looked at the two, hoping the handsome man wasn’t Xu Mumu’s boyfriend. She couldn’t stand Xu Mumu outshining her in every way.

"This is my friend, Yin Yang, a fellow youth, and my cousin Su Xiu, along with her boyfriend, Meng Shaohua." Xu Mumu introduced them with a smile, disregarding Su Xiu’s implicit challenge as juvenile.

Upon hearing the introduction, Su Xiu relaxed. Despite not being close to her aunt’s family, she was aware of quite a bit about Xu Family, especially Xu Mumu, as she heard they began to prosper.

The more she heard about Xu Mumu, the more envious Su Xiu felt. How could Xu Mumu’s luck always be so favorable?
