Chapter 180: Hunting Another Wild Boar

But before Xu Mumu could say anything else, she heard the sound of a wild boar.

"Over there, let’s go take a look," Xu Mumu said, pointing in a direction.

Yin Yang didn’t doubt Xu Mumu’s words, and the two quickly headed in the direction Xu Mumu pointed to.

Arriving at the mountain hollow, they saw a wild boar munching on some wild grass. The boar wasn’t small, probably around two to three hundred pounds, but there was only one, which made Xu Mumu sigh in relief.

"In a moment, you stay over there and make sure the boar doesn’t escape, and I’ll take it down," Xu Mumu said excitedly.

"Are you really okay on your own?" Yin Yang asked helplessly.

"No problem." Xu Mumu glared at Yin Yang. If she couldn’t do it, then Yin Yang certainly couldn’t either.

"Alright then." Yin Yang nodded. He went over to keep watch first, so that if Xu Mumu encountered any danger, he could help her.

Seeing that Yin Yang was already in position, Xu Mumu looked at the wild boar that was still unaware of any danger.

Xu Mumu held her knife and slowly approached the boar, but the boar noticed her.

Since that was the case, Xu Mumu no longer hid and directly thrust her machete toward the boar’s neck, but the boar was prepared, and its tusks blocked the blade.

Failing with the first slash, Xu Mumu quickened her pace, skillfully dodging the boar’s tusks thanks to her small stature.

Just as the boar’s tusks seemed about to pierce Xu Mumu, she sidestepped swiftly, plunging her knife into the boar’s neck in the process. Blood gushed out, causing the boar to struggle even more violently.

The pain in its neck sent the boar into a frenzy, making desperate struggles.

Xu Mumu kept dodging, ensuring the boar couldn’t get close to her.

Yin Yang, watching this scene from a distance, widened his eyes. This girl was even more formidable than he had imagined.

"Whew, I’m exhausted. The boar’s dead now, come over," Xu Mumu said, waving to Yin Yang.

"Mr. Xu is really amazing," Yin Yang said with a smile, looking at Xu Mumu.

"Average, average. So how are we getting it back? How about you go call my dad and second and fourth uncles to come carry it back, and once we clean it up, we’ll split the meat half and half," Xu Mumu suggested, looking at Yin Yang.

"Half and half, you’re really generous," Yin Yang said, raising an eyebrow at Xu Mumu.

"You guys discovered it, if not for you, we wouldn’t even have meat to eat," Xu Mumu replied with a smile.

"Are we dividing the meat directly or selling it to split the money?" Yin Yang pondered aloud. He might be able to wear the boar down, but it would take a lot of time, and he couldn’t do it as easily as Xu Mumu had.

"It’s two months until New Year, of course, we’re dividing the meat," Xu Mumu said with a laugh. So much meat, enough to last until New Year without a problem.

"I’ll take fifty pounds of meat, and the rest is yours, but I’d like your grandma’s help in curing it," Yin Yang said, glancing at Xu Mumu.

"Sure, do you want some sausages? We can also make sausages," Xu Mumu offered with a grin.

"I’ll take a little," Yin Yang nodded.

After the two had made their agreement, Yin Yang went down the mountain to call for people, while Xu Mumu stayed behind. The spot wasn’t too deep in the mountains, so she kept watch, cleaning the blood off the knife on some dry grass.

She surveyed the surroundings, having been to this area a few times, and checked for any edible wild fruits, eventually finding a large cluster of sour bubbles.

Xu Mumu picked a couple and popped them into her mouth, enjoying the mildly sour taste. They were quite nice.

There were plenty of sour bubbles around, and Xu Mumu found a large elephant ear leaf to place the sour bubbles in.

The stems of these sour bubbles had tiny prickles. Being pricked wouldn’t be pleasant, so Xu Mumu picked them carefully, eating some as she went, quite leisurely.

By the time Yin Yang brought back the three brothers of the Old Xu Family, Xu Mumu was leisurely sitting on a rock, sunbathing, and eating sour bubbles.

The sunlight seemed to layer Xu Mumu in a halo of light, causing Yin Yang’s heart to skip a beat.

"Wow, such a big wild boar again. My daughter is amazing," Xu Hai exclaimed excitedly, even more thrilled than if he’d hunted a boar himself.

"Dad, second uncle, fourth uncle, you’re here. Would you like some sour bubbles?" Xu Mumu asked with a smile as she walked over.

"You have it, we don’t really like them, just leave some for your mom later," Xu Hai replied happily.

"Big brother, let’s carry it first," Xu Po said excitedly. A boar this big, even if his big brother gave them a pound or two of meat, they’d be very happy.

"Alright then, second brother, help tie up this pig," Xu Hai nodded. Such a big wild boar, they’d have plenty of meat to enjoy for a long time. Just thinking of the meat-filled days ahead filled Xu Hai with energy.

With great excitement, they carried the wild boar back home. Madam Chen had already gathered with Sun Huiping to get the fire going for boiling water and the rest.

Seeing the large wild boar Xu Hai and the others brought back, everyone was delighted.

Yin Yang didn’t rush to leave, as Xu Mumu had already informed Madam Chen about splitting the meat with him.

Madam Chen, though somewhat reluctant, said nothing more.

Yin Yang was invited to stay for lunch, which he gladly accepted.

There was not much pig blood left, and the pig hairs had been thoroughly cleaned. Xu Mumu looked at her two uncles and aunts, who were all skilled workers.

The entrails had yet to be cleaned, and it was already noon. Madam Chen had prepared the meal, frying a piece of cured meat with some homemade pickles and another dish of cucumber scrambled eggs. The lunch was simple but relatively lavish. Usually, the family only had meat once a day, or perhaps an egg soup or something.

In the afternoon, Madam Chen asked Sun Huiping to wash the entrails. She agreed without any complaints.

Xu Mumu was discussing with Madam Chen how to handle the meat.

"Grandma, let’s keep all of it for New Year and make some sausages," Xu Mumu suggested to Madam Chen.

"Won’t that be too much to keep?" Madam Chen hesitated, reminiscing that in past years, being generous occasionally meant chopping up a few pounds of meat just before New Year.

The entire boar, once cleaned, yielded over two hundred pounds of meat. Even after giving Yin Yang his share, the family still had over a hundred pounds left, plus some offal, and after giving some to the second and fourth branches of the family, they’d still have about a hundred pounds of meat left.

So much, they might not finish it all even by the end of the New Year celebrations.

"No way, eat a bit more each day, and we might finish it before New Year," Xu Mumu laughed.

"In your dreams. Fine, let’s not sell it then," Madam Chen said with a playful scold, knowing the family also included two expectant mothers.

"Grandma, once the pig’s trotters are clean, can we stew one tonight?" Xu Mumu asked expectantly, looking at Madam Chen.
