Chapter 195: Second Aunt Is Going Into Labor

When Xu Mumu returned, Zhao Guodong and the others were sitting in their yard, each seemingly quite happy.

"Mom, Dad, Captain." Xu Mumu greeted them one by one.

"Mumu, this is Officer Gong." Xu Hai said excitedly.

"Hello, Officer Gong." Xu Mumu smiled faintly at the man before her.

"Hello, hello, young comrade, very brave, very good." Officer Gong was taken aback for a moment when he saw Xu Mumu. Earlier, when he had arrived, he had been told that this little girl was young and looked frail, yet she managed to catch a human trafficker. He was quite curious, so he personally made the trip.

But seeing Xu Mumu, such a delicate little girl, was she really the one who caught the human trafficker?

"It was nothing, not worth mentioning." Xu Mumu said helplessly. The meaning in this person’s eyes couldn’t be more obvious; her appearance was truly deceiving.

"I’m here, representing the police station, to give you a banner." Officer Gong said gently, looking at the delicate little girl, his voice naturally softened.

Seeing the banner with the big words "Courage for a Just Cause," Xu Mumu smiled faintly, thinking this item is quite precious in this era.

"Thank you." Xu Mumu said with a smile.

"This is what you deserve, and these are your rewards. Little girl, dealing with human traffickers is dangerous, don’t act hastily without understanding the situation." Officer Gong seriously told Xu Mumu.

"I know." She had heard this several times, but it was all for her own good, so Xu Mumu wasn’t annoyed at all.

Officer Gong didn’t stay long at the Xu Family before leaving; he had other matters to attend to.

After Officer Gong left, Xu Mumu finally looked at the items he brought: a cup, a handkerchief, and a certificate. Though there weren’t many items, it was still a reward from the county, something to be proud of.

The certificate was placed by Madam Chen at the highest and most visible spot on the wall, and the cup and handkerchief were given to Xu Mumu, while Li Caixia carefully stored the banner away.

Zhao Guodong, when leaving, wanted to hold a commendation ceremony for Xu Mumu, but she directly refused. She had had enough attention already, so better not.

The whole family gathered around, looking at the certificate, while Xu Mumu felt speechless—what was so interesting about it?

Anyway, this matter quickly spread in the village, and Xu Mumu once again stood out prominently.

Fortunately, Xu Mumu usually didn’t go out much, and the attention from outside didn’t affect her. She remained busy with her review materials.

That day, Zhao Qian and Liu Meizi, who went to the county with Xu Mumu, became the village’s focus. These two certainly didn’t disappoint Li Caixia, praising her daughter to the skies.

The kids would follow Xu Mumu to learn a foreign language every day. Although there were some stumbles, the progress made Xu Mumu quite satisfied.

The last semester came quickly, and soon it was back to school. The class had fewer students yet again. The school, somewhat helpless, merged the three senior high classes, leaving over fifty people in total.

The class became lively suddenly, and Xu Mumu still sat with Du Yu.

With only one semester left, Xu Mumu didn’t go out of her way to meet the new classmates. The teachers remained the same few, as there weren’t many in the school, all teaching several classes.

Changing teachers or not made little difference to Xu Mumu.

Only one semester remained, and the learning atmosphere faded even more. Xu Mumu continued with her tasks, while Du Yu knew she was organizing notes and didn’t disturb her.

"Mumu, why did you leave in such a hurry that day? Was there something at home?" Du Yu asked Xu Mumu after school.

Xu Mumu briefly explained to Du Yu about the rescue incident.

"You’re getting more amazing. I wish I had followed my mom that day, maybe I’d have seen you and how you caught the trafficker." Du Yu looked at Xu Mumu enviously.

"Just good luck, that’s all. Let’s go, my brother and the others are surely waiting for me by now." Xu Mumu rolled her eyes.

"I wish I had such good luck." Du Yu regretted not being there, wanting to witness firsthand how Xu Mumu captured the trafficker.

"Dream on, just stop thinking about it." Xu Mumu said, exasperated.

Arriving at the elementary school, the children were already waiting at the gate.

"Sis, we just saw Auntie Third and Dongbao." Xu Minglei said to Xu Mumu.

"Oh, did Auntie Third say anything?" Xu Mumu asked, knowing that Auntie Third wasn’t easy to deal with. Every time she went to see Du Yu, if she met Lin Juan, she would always say something sharp.

"No, Jiaojiao asked her why they didn’t return home for the New Year, and she just took Dongbao and left, ignoring us." Xu Minglei pouted.

"Haha, mischievous kids, let’s go home. Don’t worry about Auntie Third’s matters." Xu Mumu chuckled.

Bringing the children back home, walking along the village road, Xu Mumu could feel how the villagers were warmer towards them, especially her.

When they got home, everyone was there, except, surprisingly, Qian Ying was in labor, and the house was bustling.

Xu Mumu was taken aback. Qian Ying was a month behind the baby in Li Caixia’s belly, yet she was giving birth first.

"Dad, what happened? Why is Auntie Ying giving birth now?" Xu Mumu asked, puzzled.

Qian Ying was in the room, giving birth, sounding a bit weak, not delivered yet. The children were too afraid to speak loudly, staying in the living room doing homework or reading.

The delivery room was busy with Madam Chen and Sun Huiping; Li Caixia was resting in her room, her time was imminent too.

"She cramped and fell when fetching water, leading to early labor." Xu Hai pursed his lips.

"Why didn’t you take her to the hospital?" Xu Mumu frowned.

"Don’t worry, your grandma delivered many babies, it’s fine." Xu Hai said calmly.

"Where is Xu Xue?" Looking around and not seeing Xu Xue, Xu Mumu was a bit puzzled.

"She went to get Doctor Chu from the health center, should be back soon." Xu He said, his gaze fixed on the direction of the room, where his wife was giving birth. He had wanted to stay inside but was pushed out by Madam Chen.

Clumsy with everything he did inside, he was nothing but a hindrance, so he was directly driven out.

Unable to help in the delivery room, Xu Mumu went to the kitchen, warmed a bowl of poached eggs, changed the pot, and boiled plenty of hot water, knowing it would be useful soon.

The whole family waited outside the delivery room, and soon Xu Xue returned, bringing Doctor Chu from the health center with her.
