70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 209: Disgust
"Xu Laosan, why are you all back?" The people in the brigade looked curiously at Xu He’s family. After getting married, this couple had seldom been in the countryside. Their sudden return was quite surprising.
"Well, haven’t I just been made permanent at work? I came back to tell Mom and Dad the good news and make them happy," Xu He said with a smile.
"Oh, you’ve been made permanent at work, congratulations!" The people in the brigade were extremely envious. Finding a job in the city wasn’t easy, and Xu Laosan had been working there for so many years, but had always been a temporary worker.
Enjoying the admiration from the people in the brigade, Xu Laosan felt completely inflated.
When they got home, only Li Caixia and Qian Ying were there with the kids; everyone else had gone to work.
"Oldest Sister-in-law, Second Sister-in-law, we’re back. Where are Mom and Dad?" The warm welcome they had anticipated was nowhere to be found, leaving Xu He quite frustrated.
"Dad went up the mountain to cut wood, and Mom went to do laundry. Why are you back?" Li Caixia watched Xu He while holding her child. She was a bit envious, but then she thought about how her son had become a permanent worker long ago, and the envy instantly disappeared.
"Oh, oldest sister-in-law, second sister-in-law, since you are in the village you wouldn’t know, but our Xu He has become permanent at work, and we came back to share the good news," Lin Juan said proudly.
"Oh, that thing? I knew that long ago, Mumu said so. What’s there to come back and announce? My son was made permanent before the New Year, and I didn’t boast like you guys." Li Caixia looked at the family of three with disdain while holding her son.
Li Caixia’s words made Xu Laosan and his wife’s faces immediately stiffen.
There was no way Li Caixia didn’t show off. When Xu Minghui informed the family about his permanent position, she even flaunted while pregnant, as if wanting to announce it to the whole world.
"Is that so? Eldest sister-in-law really is blessed." They were completely unaware of Xu Minghui’s permanent position.
During the New Year, they hadn’t returned home, so how could they know?
Xu He was starting to feel a little jealous of this eldest nephew. Xu Minghui hadn’t even been at his job for half a year, yet he managed to secure a permanent position.
He knew that Xu Minghui’s job was found by Director Du, all because of Xu Mumu’s good relationship with Director Du’s son.
Knowing these things, Xu He felt even worse. He was Xu Mumu’s third uncle, and yet she didn’t look out for him at all.
If it weren’t for his father-in-law looking out for him at the shoe factory, he wouldn’t have even had a chance at becoming permanent. Thinking about these things made Xu He hold a bit of resentment towards Xu Mumu.
"Exactly, my kids all excel. But your Dongbao, he came back without even greeting his older aunt. Such poor manners, tsk tsk." Li Caixia stabbed at Lin Juan’s heart.
What Li Caixia said was true; when her kids saw people from the brigade, they were all sweet and greeting. But looking at Dongbao, Li Caixia couldn’t help but frown with disgust.
Compared to her kids, who studied well, liked cleanliness, and were polite, Dongbao, on the other hand, was munching on cookies with crumbs around his dirty mouth, snot running down his nose, and his clothes sprinkled with cookie bits. Such a big person still needing Xu He to carry him, unwilling to walk on his own.
To spoil him to such an extent, Xu Laosan and his family certainly had skill.
"Dongbao, greet your older aunt," Xu He, though his face momentarily darkened, spoke gently to his son. He only had this one son, so naturally, he couldn’t bear to get angry at him.
"No," Dongbao immediately turned his face away, unwilling to acknowledge these country people. Since he was young, Lin Juan had frequently told him how unpleasant the countryside was and how unlikable those aunts were. So he didn’t like coming back to his old home at all, each time being forced by his parents.
He hadn’t even taken a holiday today. Just to play for one more day, he followed them and took a day off to come back.
"Hehe, just like this, can’t even compare to Little Tao and Jiaojiao," Li Caixia clearly looked down on Dongbao.
While they were talking, Madam Chen returned with a basin full of Xu Mingfeng’s clothes and diapers. Madam Chen liked cleanliness; if the little guy got a bit dirty or sweaty, she would change his clothes.
This also increased her laundry workload considerably, but she did it gladly. With two new grandsons, she was overjoyed, and Old Xu Family’s prosperity was the envy of many in the brigade.
"Mom and Dad." When Madam Chen returned, Xu He’s embarrassment from before lessened. The eldest sister-in-law was really something, quarreling with his son. Such a grown-up person, and a senior, but not acting like one.
"Why have you come back?" Madam Chen asked lightly while hanging the clothes and diapers on the bamboo poles in the courtyard.
Noting Madam Chen’s indifferent expression, Xu He realized they already knew. Suddenly, he didn’t know what to say.
"Just came back to see Mom and Dad," Xu He mumbled, lowering his head.
"What’s there to see? If you really wanted to see us, you should have come back earlier," Madam Chen said indifferently. She was really disappointed in this son.
"I, there were some matters at home before." Xu He lowered his head, having long lost his earlier bravado in front of his mother.
"You’ve seen us now, so go back. The family is poor; we can’t entertain you," Madam Chen glanced at the family of three, her distaste for them growing. Looking at them, she couldn’t help but find them unpleasant in every way.
"Mom?" Xu He looked at his mother in disbelief. Was she sending him away again? This wasn’t the first time, was it? He should be their pride, so how could things be like this?
"Dad, I want to go back. I don’t want to stay here. I want to go back and eat meat," Xu Dongbao clung to Xu He’s neck, unhappily pleading. He didn’t want to be here; this wasn’t his home. His home was at the shoe factory, at his grandparents’ place.
"Your son wants to eat meat, shouldn’t you take him back to buy some?" Madam Chen sneered coldly. If any of the children in the house dared act like this, she would have given them a spanking.
Besides, the kids at home wouldn’t behave this way.
Now, with too many grandsons, she was no longer as fond of each one. Nowadays, she’d occasionally even smile at Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Wan.
"Dongbao, stop making a fuss," Xu He was having a headache, stuck between his mother’s disdain and the son he doted on.
"I don’t want to stay in the countryside. I want to go home. Mom, Mom, let’s go home," the more he was told not to make a fuss, the more rowdy Xu Dongbao became. The Old Xu family looked on with cold eyes.
Li Caixia was purely watching the drama, while Qian Ying dared not share her opinion. Even though the families had separated, Madam Chen’s influence still lingered; she didn’t dare offend the family from the city.
