Chapter 213: Treasure Hunting

Before evening, Xu Minghui came back home. As soon as he returned, he wouldn’t let go of his little brother. The little guy has grown a lot heavier now, chubby and extremely cute. He’s not as shy as before; even in Minghui’s arms, he doesn’t cry.

However, the little guy’s favorite is still his big sister. He loves being held by her. Every time Xu Mumu picks him up, he flashes a big smile.

In the evening, Xu Mumu took out the Yuan Datou coins and told the family about her and Xu Jiaojiao’s discovery.

Xu Mumu could clearly feel that her parents’ breathing had become heavier. Their eyes were glued to the two Yuan Datou coins with a greedy gleam in their eyes.

"That cliff is very deep, no one knows exactly how deep, and it seems to be more like a deep pit," Xu Jiang said, pressing his lips together with a bit of difficulty.

"No matter how deep it is, let’s go check it out tomorrow," Xu Hai said excitedly.

"That’s what I was thinking. Let’s bring the tools when we go. By the way, Dad, what do you know about that big landlord?" Xu Mumu asked.

"I know, I know, the big landlord was called Shu Peng, he was really bad, always oppressing the common people and even worked as a lackey. That’s why their home was ransacked. My dad was there at the time." Li Caixia spoke with great authority on this matter.

"Who spread the rumor about wolves at the cliff?" Xu Mumu asked, looking at her mom, who loved local gossip and should know.

"I’m not sure. The legend’s been around since I was a child. We’ve never seen wolves there, but people have seen them on the mountain on the other side," Li Caixia said excitedly.

"These two Yuan Datou were found on the cliff. I think there must be something underneath. Anyway, there’s no work to go to for the time being, so let’s go take a look," Xu Mumu looked at Old Xu expectantly.

"Alright, let’s go take a look. None of you are allowed to tell anyone about this," Old Xu’s gaze swept across the people in the main room. Even without three of the adults, the house was still full of people.

"Of course, we won’t tell. If someone finds out, we might get caught," Li Caixia immediately assured.

"We won’t tell anyone either," Sun Huiping and Qian Ying quickly chimed in.

"Do we have enough rope at home?" Xu Minghui asked immediately.

"We have plenty of straw rope, will that work?" Xu Jiang asked. The straw rope at home was twisted by the family using grain straw, which was convenient for binding anything.

"Is it sturdy?" Xu Mumu asked, thinking about going down herself. Out of everyone, she was the lightest, and she also considered herself quite experienced, having climbed many steep mountains in her past life to avoid being chased by zombies and various mutant animals.

"Yes, it’s sturdy enough to lift a big, fat pig," Xu Jiang said.

Xu Mumu’s mouth twitched; what a metaphor.

That evening, Xu Mumu cooked some chicken and put it in a basket, heading towards the educated youth camp.

"Yin Yang, someone’s looking for you," Huo Qingze opened the door and saw it was Xu Mumu with a basket. He raised his eyebrows slightly and then called Yin Yang.

"Mumu, why are you here?" Yin Yang looked at Xu Mumu in surprise.

"I caught a wild pheasant and cooked it myself. I wanted you to try it; it might not taste very good," Xu Mumu handed the basket to Yin Yang.

"It smells delicious. I’m sure it tastes great too. Why did you bring me some meat?" Yin Yang was very pleased, his eyes bright as he looked at Xu Mumu.

"You’ve given me plenty of things too. This is a return gift for you," Xu Mumu said with a smile.

"I really like this return gift. I’ve never received anything like it before," Yin Yang said happily.

"You haven’t even tasted it yet. How do you know it’s good?" Xu Mumu was speechless; this guy was probably giddy with joy.

"Anything from you must be good," Yin Yang said earnestly.

"Since when have you become so smooth-tongued?" Xu Mumu laughed, looking at Yin Yang.

"Mumu, I’m just telling the truth," Yin Yang said, his gaze lingering on Xu Mumu.

Under such a direct stare, Xu Mumu felt the hairs on her arms stand up. This guy’s gaze was too straightforward.

"Go clean out that bowl quickly; I need it back at home. We don’t have enough bowls," Xu Mumu glared at Yin Yang.

"Wait a minute, I’ll clean it up for you right away," Yin Yang replied with a grin.

After two minutes, Yin Yang came back out with the bowl, freshly washed and spotless.

"Mumu, thank you for the gift," Yin Yang said, his smile radiant as he looked at Xu Mumu.

"You’re welcome. I’m going back now," Xu Mumu shook her head.

When she got home, dinner was already prepared, waiting for her. The family felt quite complicated seeing the things Xu Mumu took out being given away.

Early the next morning, the Xu family got up early. The brothers prepared the tools and went up the mountain with Xu Mumu, leaving Madam Chen and Qian Ying behind to watch the children. Even Li Caixia went up the mountain to see the excitement.

The poor little brother was left at home by his mother.

Arriving at the cliff, everyone eagerly searched for a way down.

"Dad, tie the rope around my waist. I want to go down and take a look," Xu Mumu said seriously.

"Don’t rush. Let’s find a suitable way down. If they hid the treasure here, there has to be a way down. Let’s search for it," Xu Hai shook his head. Going down there recklessly was too dangerous, and he didn’t want his daughter to take the risk.

"Alright," Xu Mumu nodded. Her dad had a point. The thought of treasure made her eyes glaze over, but if there really was treasure hidden below, there must be a way down.

Luckily, the Old Xu family had many members, and the benefit of that showed at this moment as they conducted a carpet search around the area.

"Big brother, big brother, there’s a really deep cave over here," Xu Po’s voice called out.

The group ran over. Being closer to Xu Po, Xu Mumu was the first to enter the cave. The path was quite winding. After a while, they found themselves in the deep pit below the cliff, where there were even stone steps.

"It looks like there’s really something inside," examining the stone steps going down, and looking back at the cliff above, it was clear they had been walking down for some time, obstructed by rocks and unable to see above.

The group quickened their pace; after about ten minutes on the stone steps, they entered a dry cave. Inside were many boxes, covered with decayed straw that must have been there for years.

"The lock is quite sturdy; I can’t break it," Xu Hai tried to open a box. Unfortunately, it was locked, and despite his efforts, he couldn’t break it open.

"Dad, let me try," Xu Mumu offered, approaching the box.
