Chapter 232: Courting Disaster in New Ways

Du Yu and his brother on the side also heard the conversation between the two, not expecting Yin Yang’s background to be so tragic; both looked at Yin Yang with some sympathy in their eyes.

Noticing the brothers’ gaze, Yin Yang’s head was filled with black lines. He just wanted to appear a little fragile and pitiful in front of Xu Mumu, without wanting these two guys to pity him.

"How’s your grandpa doing? I remember you said his rheumatism was quite severe before," Xu Mumu quietly changed the topic.

"He’s much better now. I met an old Chinese doctor before, and the ointment he made was quite effective," Yin Yang said with a smile.

The two sat under the shade of the tree, chatting on and off, and the atmosphere was very harmonious. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Some villagers passed by this way, and some smiled meaningfully towards them.

The little one in Xu Mumu’s arms soon fell asleep. The little guy had played for quite a while before, probably tired, and after being fed a bit from the bottle, he fell asleep.

"Should we take him home to sleep? Sleeping outside might make him catch a cold," Yin Yang said gently. It’s breezy by the river, and since the child is only half a year old, it’s better to take him back to sleep.

"Okay, I’ll take my little brother home first. You sit here for a while; I’ll be back soon." Xu Mumu nodded; she’s such a careless older sister.

Taking her little brother, she headed straight home. Li Caixia was mending Xu Minglei’s pants. Xu Minglei had made a big hole in the cuff of his pants, not knowing how he did it.

"Mumu, why are you back so early?" Seeing Xu Mumu return, Li Caixia put down the needlework and rubbed her neck; keeping her head down had made her neck somewhat sore.

"The little brother fell asleep, so I brought him back to sleep," Xu Mumu said quietly.

"Give him to me, I’ll take him to bed." Li Caixia nodded, looked at her son sleeping like a little piglet, and then took him to the room.

In the second room, Xu Xue was feeding her brother milk powder, looking a bit envious in the direction of the main house. Her brother’s body was too weak; she didn’t dare to take the little guy outside to catch the breeze at all. If he catches the wind, he would surely fall sick again.

Unlike those in the main house, who are healthy and robust, enough to make one envious.

Leaving the little brother at home, Xu Mumu felt a strong gaze coming from the hall of the second house, and when she looked over, she saw Xu Xue’s eyes filled with envy and jealousy.

She hadn’t done anything, so why was Xu Xue envious and jealous? It seemed their thoughts were not on the same wavelength.

After glancing, Xu Mumu withdrew her gaze. She had no extra ties with Xu Xue now, and it was good as it was.

Outside, some kids were happily playing in the river, not catching many fish but having a lot of fun.

"Big sister, when will we have grilled fish again?" Xu Jiaojiao asked after washing her feet and climbing out of the water; the river water had been muddied by them.

"With these few small fish, it’s not worth grilling; we’ll just take them back to make fish soup," Xu Mumu said disdainfully, glancing at the few small fish in the wooden bucket, the largest only three fingers wide.

"Sis, there are no fish here," Xu Minglei said dejectedly; they wanted to catch big fish, but there simply weren’t any big fish in the river.

"I know, if there were big fish, would there be any left for you to catch?" Xu Mumu laughed. As the weather warmed, people visited the river daily, and while some fish could be caught, they were mostly small. Only occasionally, someone with luck could catch a big one.

"Humph, no more fishing for me, I’m going to see how many fish they’ve caught." Xu Minglei directly tossed the fish net to Xu Tao.

Xu Tao was excited with the fish net in hand, feeling she could net a lot of fish.

Taking the two kids to where the fishing was happening, Yin Yang was still there, chatting with the brothers. Seeing Xu Mumu arrive, Yin Yang’s eyes suddenly lit up.

Xu Minglei and Xu Jiaojiao ran directly to check the wooden bucket in front of Qin Hao, but it was still dry without water added and no fish caught yet.

Looking at the wooden bucket, the air seemed to become still for a moment.

"Well, there are no fish here," said Qin Hao, feeling his face a bit hot, embarrassed in front of the kids.

"Bro, your bait has been eaten twice," Du Yu mercilessly exposed his brother.

"Pfft, Du Yu, aren’t you afraid of being beaten?" Xu Mumu laughed, seeing Du Yu courting disaster, thinking Du Yu would surely be dealt with by his cousin when they got back.

"See if I don’t deal with you when we get back," Qin Hao glared at Du Yu, thinking, ’You really are a dear cousin, always rushing to expose me.’

"Bro, your heart is getting smaller, can’t even handle the truth," Du Yu pouted, not scared of his brother at all.

His brother was good in every way, except for not knowing why he loved fishing so much, yet couldn’t catch fish, with terrible luck that Du Yu couldn’t bear to see.

After talking here for a while, it was getting late, and Du Yu and the others also packed up the fishing rods.

"Du Yu and the others are coming to my place for dinner; do you want to come too?" Xu Mumu smiled at Yin Yang.

"Can I?" Yin Yang was a little excited; he certainly wanted to go.

"No problem." Xu Mumu nodded.

"Then wait a moment, I’ll go back to where I live to grab something," Yin Yang said and quickly left. Going to Xu Mumu’s house empty-handed felt impolite; he should bring something, which would surely make Xu Mumu’s family like him.

Watching Yin Yang leave, Xu Mumu slightly raised her brow, and a few waited here for a short while until Yin Yang returned, holding a small cloth bag. What was inside was unknown.

Xu Mumu went to call the two kids still playing in the river, and the wooden bucket had a few more fish now, looking like the harvest wasn’t bad.

Returning home, Madam Chen was already back and busy working, with Li Caixia assisting her.

"You’re all back, and Yin Zhiqing is here too; come sit and rest a bit. The outside must be scorching." Li Caixia came over with a jug to pour them some sugar water.

"You guys sit here for a bit, I’ll go help my grandma cook," Xu Mumu said to the group.

"Mm, Mumu, you go ahead; don’t worry about us," Yin Yang acted particularly well-behaved.

Li Caixia took the things Yin Yang brought over to the room, looking at the particularly nice-looking pastries inside. She had never seen pastries looking so nice before, and they smelled so fragrant that she involuntarily swallowed.

Oh my, Yin Zhiqing is really polite; she felt like inviting this young man over every day. Every time he comes, he brings something, and every time he sees her at the brigade, he calls her aunty more affectionately than her own son.

Couldn’t help but give the pastries another glance. Though she didn’t go to the county often, she knew the pastries at the supply and marketing cooperatives were not as exquisite as those Yin Yang brought.
