Chapter 267: Empty-Handed, Catching the White Wolf

"Hello, I’m Wei Shangzhou, the deputy director of the furniture factory." The deputy director was a slender middle-aged man who appeared quite gentle and approachable.

"Hello, my name is Xu Mumu, and this is my dad, Xu Hai. We want to order two sets of furniture." Xu Mumu said with a smile.

"Um, hello." Wei Shangzhou was taken aback for a moment. Did this father-daughter duo mix up roles? Why was the little girl taking charge? "The two sets of furniture you’re ordering are too few; we don’t accept small orders like this."

"Director Wei, have you seen the furniture designs I drew? What do you think of them?" Xu Mumu didn’t respond to Wei Shangzhou’s words but went straight to the topic of her design sketches.

"Did you draw them?" Wei Shangzhou’s eyes flickered slightly, looking at the young girl in front of him. He was a bit skeptical, as there had been many cases of imposters over the years.

"Yes, I have quite a few designs. I wonder if Director Wei is interested?" Xu Mumu looked at Wei Shangzhou.

"Young lady, your father is here, are you in charge?" Wei Shangzhou raised an eyebrow.

"All the big things in our family are handled by my daughter. She’s the provincial top student and has been in the newspaper." Xu Hai proudly said, not forgetting to boast about his daughter.

"Quite impressive, young lady." Wei Shangzhou glanced at Xu Mumu in surprise. He received newspapers every day, no wonder he found Xu Mumu’s name familiar; the provincial top student indeed had this name.

"Not bad, but all those are just titles. Now, we’re here to talk about buying furniture." Xu Mumu calmly stated.

"I heard you still have some drawings in hand. What are your conditions?" Wei Shangzhou lightly tapped his fingers on the table.

"Since Director Wei is so straightforward, I won’t be coy either. How about exchanging these drawings for two sets of furniture and a temporary job position?" Xu Mumu waved the drawings in her hand.

"Young lady, you sure have quite the tone. Are you sure what you have is worth that much?" Wei Shangzhou felt like laughing; this young girl was aiming high.

"Of course, Director Wei should know that furniture businesses usually make products that last many years, even decades if the quality is good. Business probably isn’t that great, right?" Xu Mumu narrowed her eyes slightly, suspecting that her bargaining chips weren’t enough for this old fox.

"Business is alright, overall, still profitable." Wei Shangzhou smiled, but internally, he began to take her seriously. This young lady wasn’t just some clueless kid, not easy to fool.

Xu Mumu’s drawings were indeed impressive, and Wei Shangzhou was tempted to acquire them, but her demands were higher than he anticipated, and he felt they weren’t worth it. He wasn’t inclined to agree to either of her conditions.

"Not necessarily. What if I have a way to boost sales?" Xu Mumu smirked, looking confident.

"Let’s hear it." Wei Shangzhou showed interest.

"My previous conditions; not a single one can be missed." Xu Mumu chuckled softly, daring the old fox to take the bait.

"Young lady, you’ve set conditions, so naturally you need to show your cards. Let me see if they’re worth that price." Wei Shangzhou’s eyes fell on the remaining drawings in Xu Mumu’s hands.

"These are all I have for now." Xu Mumu placed her drawings in front of Wei Shangzhou.

"Aren’t you afraid I’ll take these for myself?" Seeing Xu Mumu’s straightforward demeanor, Wei Shangzhou squinted his eyes slightly.

"Well, that depends on whether Director Wei has the skills for it. My boyfriend’s uncle seems to be the chief editor of the provincial newspaper. They would surely love such big news. Besides, is Director Wei that kind of person?" Yin Yang had mentioned to her that if she ran into any difficult situations here, she should contact that editor.

"Of course not." Wei Shangzhou’s mouth twitched; this girl sure knew how to leverage connections. Yet, how much of it was true and how much was bluff?

"I also don’t think Director Wei is that kind of person. My boyfriend said Chief Editor Yu from the provincial paper owes him a big favor. It’s truly a pity." Xu Mumu said with genuine regret.

Even without relying on Yin Yang, she could handle Director Wei herself, but taking action alone was troublesome and could cause issues.

Wei Shangzhou’s brows twitched hard. What exactly was this girl lamenting about? Was she sent here specifically to deal with him?

Xu Hai’s mouth also twitched; since when did his daughter know an editor? Could it all be random talk to bluff?

However, at the moment, Xu Hai couldn’t undermine his daughter, so he stood proudly alongside her.

Wei Shangzhou began examining the drawings by Xu Mumu. As he looked more closely, his expression turned more serious. Xu Mumu’s furniture designs were very innovative and feasible, although some parts were not detailed. However, their understanding of furniture far exceeded hers.

"How about it?" Xu Mumu asked with a smile.

"Impressive. What about the sales method? The furniture market is quite different from other industries." Wei Shangzhou became serious, looking at the young lady in front of him.

"My two conditions, Director Wei must agree before we proceed." Xu Mumu said, looking at Wei Shangzhou. The water in her cup had cooled down, and she took a small sip.

"I can agree to you, but if what you provide isn’t enough, the temporary worker can be dismissed anytime." Wei Shangzhou’s gaze deepened significantly.

Once Xu Mumu secured the employment form from Wei Shangzhou, she shared some modern sales tactics with him.

Wei Shangzhou lightly tapped his fingers on the desk, thoughtfully considering the feasibility of what she had said.

After running through it in his mind, Wei Shangzhou looked at Xu Mumu. If this young lady weren’t going off to study, he would’ve wanted to hire her for his factory.

"Remember to supervise the delivery of the furniture I ordered to Jinhua Street. My family is moving." Xu Mumu said calmly.

"Got it, got it." Wei Shangzhou rolled his eyes speechlessly; this girl was an expert at getting a deal with nothing in hand.

Ignoring Wei Shangzhou’s disdain, Xu Mumu left with the form alongside her dad.

"Daughter, we got two sets of furniture and a job without spending a dime. Am I dreaming?" Xu Hai felt the world seemed a bit surreal, especially with Director Wei, who seemed so easily swayed by a few papers. His daughter was really something.

"Dad, you don’t understand the twists and turns inside. The advice I provided them is enough for them to make a significant profit." Xu Mumu said calmly, acknowledging her father’s limited experience.

Xu Hai didn’t understand the details, and even though his daughter explained, he still thought Director Wei was foolish.

But being able to get two sets of furniture and a job for free, Xu Hai was on cloud nine.

For now, the two decided to eat before heading back to their newly purchased house where furniture and essentials were needed.
