70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 302: Family Matters
It’s been a long time since I’ve had a meal with my family, and the Xu Family was especially lively tonight.
During the meal, Li Caixia talked about many things from the old home. Although she’s now in the provincial city, she still knows quite a bit about the old place.
Whenever they have a break, they often go back to visit, claiming they miss the family, but actually just showing off.
Those people in the brigade always pampered her, because the Xu Family is doing pretty well now.
There’s nothing major happening back home, just a lot of gossip.
Xu Mumu heard quite a bit about the third house, and she silently glanced at her mom. Her mom was just born in the wrong era; she would have made a great paparazzi.
Over at the third house, the Lin Family is quite lively. Ever since Lin Juan’s brother started working in the factory, the two families inevitably have more interactions. Naturally, Lin Juan’s parents can’t treat their son and daughter equally, and they occasionally help out their son privately.
But when Lin Juan’s mother found out, it caused a commotion at home.
Lin Juan and Xu He naturally weren’t happy. The father-in-law’s money was supposed to be theirs. If he gave it to his son, what were they? They had already agreed on who would take care of him when the time came. Clearly, they were the ones responsible, so Old Lin’s money should naturally be theirs.
Xu He and his wife went to argue about it. Once money falls into someone’s pocket, how could they possibly take it out? It’s said Xu He got into two fights with that person in the shoe factory.
Du Zhen tried to mediate twice, but in the end, nothing came of it; they simply refused to give up the money. The two families have since cut ties completely.
Li Caixia spoke excitedly. Although the old couple’s expressions weren’t great, they didn’t say anything against her. It was all the third house’s doing. If they can’t even get their money back, how stupid can they be, those idiots.
Fortunately, over the past few months, Li Caixia has learned a lot from Director Wu, including the art of reading the room. She managed to stop the topic before the old couple became visibly annoyed.
Aside from the third house’s issues, things back home are developing quite well.
Xu Mumu isn’t quite sure about Xu Xue’s situation since she’s gone to college. She doesn’t know what happens there, but as for the second house, they’re still doing the same work back home, either going to work or taking care of the children. Kangkang’s health has improved a lot, and life is pretty good for them.
As for the fourth house, they’re doing even better. Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Tao are both in school, and Xu Po only has to deliver two rabbits to the state-run restaurant and then goes to work back home.
Li Caixia and Xu Mumu then talked about their cousin. Su Xiu hasn’t been married for long, and the couple lives in the county’s furniture factory, doing quite well.
After talking about this cousin, Li Caixia mentioned Tian Fang, which brought a silence to the table.
Xu Mumu raised an eyebrow, wondering what her cousin had done. Why the long faces, even Li Caixia seemed unhappy, what happened?
"Mom, what exactly happened?" Xu Mumu asked curiously.
"What else could it be? She found living with her in-laws difficult and secretly ran off with a young intellectual who returned to the city. She even had children, she’s heartless. Just up and left." Li Caixia grumbled, venting, because Tian Fang’s affair made the Xu Family a spectacle for a few days, coincidentally when she went back. Thinking about it makes her annoyed.
Xu Mumu: "..." She thought her presence had changed a lot of things, but apparently not everything. Tian Fang still eloped with someone.
But it has nothing to do with her. Though they say they’re relatives, to Xu Mumu, they’re at best acquaintances.
This was Tian Fang’s own choice, and she’ll have to bear the consequences herself.
"That wretched Tian Fang, her brain must be full of manure. She wants to run off with someone else, dragging everyone’s reputation down. If I knew where she is, I’d beat her up." Li Caixia was furious.
"Alright, stop it. Mumu just got back, no need to spoil the mood." Xu Hai nudged his wife with his elbow.
"Yes, yes, let’s eat." Madam Chen quickly added.
In her heart, she was even more irritated with her eldest daughter. If it weren’t for her poor upbringing of her own daughter, they wouldn’t have to suffer this undeserved catastrophe.
The atmosphere at the dining table gradually became lively again. Xu Mumu listened to the gossip but didn’t take it to heart. Tian Fang’s issue is too far removed to affect her.
After dinner, Xu Mumu took over looking after her little brother. The little guy had eaten over half a bowl of rice, and she was quite surprised at his appetite. When they first arrived, he had eaten two or three cakes, and still managed to eat over half a bowl of rice now. Although the bowl wasn’t big, it held quite a bit.
"Grandma, does he always eat this much?" Xu Mumu asked, noting how sturdy the little guy seemed. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Pretty much, Fengfeng loves to run and jump, gets a lot of exercise, and digests quickly, so naturally, he eats more." Madam Chen said with a smile. Every time she takes the little grandson out, everyone on the street is envious. He’s definitely the sturdiest lad in the area.
"That’s true." Thinking back to when they first arrived, her little brother’s mischievousness left a deep impression. This little guy is really active, always moving around even while eating, you’d nearly need to chase him to feed him.
After dinner, Xu Mumu took the responsibility of caring for her little brother. Her gaze fell on her dad who looked quite miserable.
Xu Minglei watched excitedly, "Sis, sis, mom is going to teach dad how to read!"
Xu Mumu’s lips twitched as she watched her mom pull out an elementary school textbook to teach basic math.
If Li Caixia got something wrong, Xu Minglei would point it out, watching one teach eagerly, while the other learned slowly. Xu Mumu couldn’t help but find it amusing.
The little brother played around at home for a while, and after washing up, he quickly became sleepy.
Soothing him to sleep, she placed him on Li Caixia’s bed. The little one was certainly cuter when asleep.
In the living room, the couple was still studying. Xu Mumu smiled faintly; the dedication was commendable.
With Xu Minglei’s guidance, they were completely fine. Xu Minglei was doing remarkably well in school, and advising them wasn’t a problem at all.
Xu Mumu went over to Yin Yang’s side to keep him company. It was still early, and she wasn’t ready to sleep yet.
Yin Yang’s place felt empty. There were several rooms, but only the bedroom was occupied.
"Why’d you come over?" Yin Yang squeezed Xu Mumu’s hand.
