Chapter 308: Trouble Caused by Good Intentions

Days on the train, Xu Mumu spent most of the time resting. When they reached the Imperial City, the sunshine outside was dazzling. Xu Mumu squinted her eyes, enjoying the comfortable warmth.

"Let’s go, Yun Hong is already waiting for us over there." Yin Yang took all the things from Xu Mumu’s hands.

Xu Mumu nodded and got into Zhou Yunhong’s car with Yin Yang.

"Sister-in-law, are you alright? Feeling unwell?" Zhou Yunhong asked while driving, noticing Xu Mumu didn’t look well, different from her usual rosy complexion.

"I had a slight fever earlier." Xu Mumu smiled a bit.

"Why don’t we go to the hospital first for a check-up? Are you feeling unwell anywhere else?" Yin Yang looked at Xu Mumu with some concern. He naturally hoped Xu Mumu could remain healthy.

"No need, I’m much better now and not feeling unwell anywhere." Xu Mumu shook her head with a smile.

They arrived at the small courtyard by car, and at home, only Mrs. Liu was cleaning the yard. Professor Jian and Professor Song were not there; presumably, they were at school.

Yin Yang sent Xu Mumu to rest. She originally planned to read some books, but Yin Yang didn’t let her, worrying she might feel unwell.

Xu Mumu twitched the corner of her mouth, then asked Mrs. Liu to boil some water, took a bath, and then went to sleep.

Xu Mumu slept until evening. When she woke up, Professor Song and the others had already returned. They spoke more quietly, worried about waking her.

"Sir Song, Sir Jian." Xu Mumu walked over to them. The two little dogs enthusiastically ran over as well. When she first got back, she didn’t have the strength to play with them, but now she gently petted them. Even after being away for several days, the dogs still remembered them completely.

"Mumu, are you feeling better?" Professor Song looked at Xu Mumu with concern. They were startled upon learning she was unwell when they returned.

"Sir Song, Sir Jian, I’m fine now. See, I’m perfectly fine." Xu Mumu said with a smile, realizing there were so many people in the world who cared for her.

"Are you really alright?" Professor Song was still somewhat uneasy.

"I’m fine, Yin Yang just likes to make a fuss over nothing." Xu Mumu quietly glared at Yin Yang. This guy really did exaggerate, making it seem like she was so fragile when she was perfectly fine. She felt strong enough to take on anything.

"He cares about you." Professor Jian said with a smile.

"Mumu, are you hungry? Mrs. Liu made some food and kept it warm in the pot." Yin Yang said with a smile.

"No need, it’s almost dinner time anyway, I’ll eat later." Xu Mumu replied calmly.

"That’s fine." Yin Yang nodded. Xu Mumu was looking much better than before, not appearing as weak as she did earlier.

Having slept quite a bit these past few days, Xu Mumu found it difficult to fall asleep at night.

Unable to sleep, she took out a book to read, since there was nothing else to do anyway.

But while reading the book, she couldn’t focus as her mind drifted to thoughts of making money. She couldn’t rely on Yin Yang to support her forever. Xu Mumu found a blank sheet of paper, took some tools, and started working quickly.

After working most of the night, Xu Mumu had finally completed the basic outline.

When she went to bed, she almost fell asleep instantly.

The next day, Xu Mumu was woken up by Yin Yang for class.

Still a bit groggy, having spent so much time the previous night on that task, she hadn’t fully woken up.

After having breakfast, Xu Mumu took the letter Xu Xue gave her, along with the clothes she made, and headed out with Yin Yang.

"I’ll carry these for you." Yin Yang took the items from Xu Mumu’s hands.

"Shall we go find Huo Qingze after class?" Xu Mumu looked at Yin Yang, who seemed willing to carry them.

"I can go find him myself." Yin Yang said calmly. After all, it’s just delivering some things; a simple task.

"I’ll go with you. After all, it was Xu Xue who entrusted them to me." Xu Mumu smiled and said.

"Sure." Yin Yang nodded with a smile.

When Xu Mumu went to class, a lot of people in the class were watching her. Being stared at by so many people made Xu Mumu uncomfortable; she didn’t like being under such constant scrutiny.

Su Yue’e looked at Xu Mumu with some apology, not daring to speak to her.

Xu Mumu also noticed Su Yue’e’s gaze, frowning slightly, wondering what had happened?

With this doubt in mind, someone came looking for her after class. Xu Mumu looked at the woman in front of her. She knew this person, she was from the same class.

However, she wasn’t familiar with this person. Her name was Lin Shuxue, close to thirty years old, attending university with a seven or eight-year-old girl and sharing a dorm bed with her. Life wasn’t easy for them.

But these days, how many people truly have an easy life? Everyone has their own struggles.

"Is there something you need?" Xu Mumu asked coolly.

"Can we talk privately?" Lin Shuxue looked at Xu Mumu with anticipation.

"Alright." Xu Mumu nodded.

The two of them went outside, and Xu Mumu looked at Lin Shuxue, waiting for her to speak first.

"I heard you found a job for Su Yue’e. Do you know if the laboratory still needs people?" Lin Shuxue asked, looking embarrassed as she kept her head down.

Xu Mumu looked at Lin Shuxue for a while. How had this news spread so quickly? Inside, Xu Mumu felt a surge of anger. She had clearly told Su Yue’e not to spread the word, yet she still went and violated her trust.

"No, don’t ask me about it. I’m not familiar with matters at the laboratory." Xu Mumu said mildly.

As expected, trouble arrived just as anticipated. She shouldn’t have been so nice from the beginning and helped Su Yue’e at all.

"Why? If you could help Su Yue’e... My family is in bad condition, and I really need this job." Lin Shuxue’s eyes welled up with tears, not understanding her straightforward rejection.

"Aren’t you with Shen Ya running a tutoring class? There are people with worse conditions than yours. I’m not related to you in any way, why should I help you?" Xu Mumu looked coldly at the person in front of her. Though Lin Shuxue had a pretty face, she seemed pitiful.

"We’re in the same class, just a few girls. Don’t you feel inclined to help even a little?" Lin Shuxue wasn’t happy. Her hope to earn extra money from an additional job was dashed.

"Haha, I said I won’t help, and I won’t. I’m not that kind-hearted and certainly don’t have a good temper. It’s time for class, I’m leaving." Xu Mumu said coldly.

Back in class, Xu Mumu cast a deep glance at Su Yue’e, then withdrew her gaze and started reading her book.

Inside, Su Yue’e felt restless. Especially when Xu Mumu looked at her, it felt like being pierced directly in her heart. She had never felt such a penetrating gaze before.

Little did she know, the look in Xu Mumu’s eyes was akin to looking at a zombie she had killed. In her heart, Su Yue’e was someone she no longer wished to associate with.
