Chapter 381: Returning in Glory

The bell for the end of class rang, and everyone in the classroom started to file out. Yin Yang was one of the quicker ones to leave.

Just as Xu Mumu was about to walk over, she was cut off by a girl who boldly pushed her aside. If Xu Mumu hadn’t had some practice, she might have fallen. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

The girl walked up to Yin Yang, her face flushed with shyness, holding a lunchbox in her hand.

"Yin Yang, I made this myself..." Before the girl could finish her sentence, Yin Yang’s gaze didn’t even settle on her. He bypassed her and went straight to Xu Mumu.

"Mumu, are you okay?" Yin Yang asked carefully, having seen the girl push his beloved little girlfriend earlier.

"I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be? She’s here for you," Xu Mumu rolled her eyes. Having a girlfriend was something Yin Yang was open about in their departments, and Xu Mumu was irked that someone still approached him.

"You’re Yin Yang’s girlfriend? You’re nothing special," the girl looked at Xu Mumu with a hint of jealousy in her eyes.

"What’s it to you? Yin Yang, my backpack is heavy. I don’t want to carry it, you hold it for me." Xu Mumu handed her bag to Yin Yang, making sure to show their affection in front of the girl, who wasn’t even really a rival, hoping she’d back off quickly.

"Alright, I’ll take it. Mumu, are you tired? Let’s head back early," Yin Yang good-naturedly took Xu Mumu’s backpack and even took the umbrella from her hand. He knew Xu Mumu was trying to annoy that girl and was more than willing to play along, acting as if he was resigned to his fate.

"Hmph, that’s more like it. I haven’t bought new clothes for a long time, you should buy me a couple of outfits later," Xu Mumu said coquettishly, trying to irritate the girl further, wishing these petty troubles would just disappear.

As expected, Xu Mumu’s words made the girl’s face look grim. Many around were waiting for a show, especially the boys, surprised that Yin Yang liked this type of dynamic.

"Sure, two outfits are too few. Let’s buy more," Yin Yang said gently as he led Xu Mumu forward.

"You’re the one who said it, I want the most expensive ones in the department store," Xu Mumu’s voice was still loud, clear to those behind her.

Even without turning back, she could feel the girl’s face twisting with jealousy.

Once they got far enough, Yin Yang looked at Xu Mumu with amusement, "You’re getting more mischievous." Yin Yang squeezed Xu Mumu’s hand; it was only in such private moments that his little girlfriend would let him hold her hand.

"Do you like it, Yin Yang?" Xu Mumu asked playfully, calling him sweetly.

"I like it all. Whatever you’re like, I like." Yin Yang tightened his grip on Xu Mumu’s hand. If she kept calling him "Yin Yang," he thought he’d want to get married soon.

"Hmph, you passed. Let’s go back," Xu Mumu replied with a smile, feeling a bit nauseated herself, instead of nauseating Yin Yang.

"Why go back? Let’s first go to the department store to buy clothes. It’s been a while since you bought a new dress." Yin Yang smiled warmly.

"No need, it’s raining now. If the rain gets heavier, it’ll be inconvenient to go back. Let’s wait for a sunny day and then slowly pick in the department store," Xu Mumu chuckled.

"Alright, then Mumu will have to make do." Yin Yang said, squeezing Xu Mumu’s hand.

When they returned, Mrs. Liu was cooking, Professor Song was at home, but Professor Jian hadn’t come back yet.

Professor Song was wearing reading glasses, looking through his piles of books in the living room while jotting down notes.

Xu Mumu and Yin Yang didn’t disturb Professor Song. Yin Yang put down the backpack while Xu Mumu went to play with the two dogs. The dogs had evidently run through the rain; their fur was wet, and their paws muddy.

"These two dogs are filthy, don’t touch them," Yin Yang said disdainfully, as they tried to pounce on Xu Mumu enthusiastically.

"It’s fine, I’ll just wash my hands later." Xu Mumu laughed, the puppies had grown into half-sized dogs, shedding their baby fat. Much of their fluffy fur had fallen out, and the new coat was quite stiff.

Yin Yang didn’t want to engage and even felt like giving the overly enthusiastic dogs a light kick, finding them annoyingly bothersome.

Soon after, Professor Jian came back, and the delicious aroma from the kitchen grew stronger.

Once Professor Song cleared the table in the living room, the meal was ready.

Professor Song was preparing things for a new experiment. The solar generator Xu Mumu had worked on had inspired him with many new ideas.

Xu Mumu didn’t get involved, preferring to let Professor Song handle it. She wanted to work in the next room, which had everything she needed.

After lunch, Xu Mumu went for a nap, as there was a whole afternoon of classes ahead. One of the afternoon’s classes was actually taught by Professor Song.

Xu Mumu’s classes were relatively easy, but on Yin Yang’s side, things were starting to get busy. Huo Qingze’s factory was almost ready to start full production.

Yin Yang was so busy that he barely had time to accompany Xu Mumu to school, having to take a few days off directly.

Back in their hometown, when the weekend came, everyone from Old Xu Family except Xu Minghui, who had school matters, had packed up and returned home.

Li Caixia led the way, and when people from the brigade saw the Old Xu Family return in full force, smiles lit up their faces. They could probably guess that the family was back to show off good news again.

The people in the brigade were beyond feeling envious of the Eldest Xu’s family anymore; they had risen so quickly, catching everyone off guard.

Li Caixia chatted along the way, with Liu Cuixia being the most enthusiastic participant. The two of them, one talking, one hyping, made it seem like they were putting on a show.

"Why are you all back?" Brigade leader Zhao Guodong came over. It was still working hours, but the family’s return drew a crowd of people eager to watch, neglecting their work.

By the time Zhao Guodong arrived, he’d already heard a ton about the Old Xu Family’s glorious achievements. Back to show off their kids again. Even Zhao Guodong had to admit the Eldest Xu’s family was impressive. There wasn’t anyone promising like them in the entire brigade; how did they catch all the good breaks?

"Does the leader not welcome us? Our roots are still here," Li Caixia proudly held her head high. She was a cadre of sorts now; she used to fear the brigade leader, but not anymore, holding herself confidently.

"Get back to work, you all. Why are you standing around, losing work points, huh?" Zhao Guodong rolled his eyes, then shouted to the onlookers, unwilling to bicker with Li Caixia. His own son was doing well too, hadn’t he said anything about that?
