Chapter 91: Reciprocity

"Okay." Yin Yang’s smile grew even wider.

"I’ll take these first, then come back for the basket later. Maybe I’ll bump into Mr. Xu again." Yin Yang looked at the pigweed already filling his bamboo basket. It was his second trip, and it was almost full.

"Sure, I’ll show you where it is when you come over." Xu Mumu said with a smile, looking at Yin Yang’s face with admiration. Even doing these chores didn’t diminish his good looks. How could a man be this handsome?

After sending Yin Yang off, Xu Mumu caught up with her little rascals at home. The constant training had improved their health over time; they weren’t tired from running for so long.

"Big sister, over here, over here." Xu Jiaojiao said excitedly.

Xu Mumu walked over and found plenty of mushrooms here. Some poisonous ones had not been picked, and others were quite small. Obviously, the kids had been here more than once.

This place had quite a number of mushrooms, making Xu Mumu quite pleased as she looked around. The area was damp, with a few large trees that had fallen and decayed, and there were plenty of fallen leaves.

However, the leaves had already been cleared away by the little ones, exposing the mushrooms growing underneath.

"Big sister, there must be more over there." Xu Jiaojiao pointed a bit further ahead; they hadn’t picked those yet.

"Let’s go take a look." Xu Mumu said with a smile, using a stick to clear away the dead leaves, revealing the mushrooms growing underneath.

There were quite a few mushrooms here, so Xu Mumu led the kids in picking them.

Before long, Xu Mumu saw that Yin Yang had indeed returned.

"You came pretty quickly, Yin Zhiqing." Xu Mumu said with a smile.

"I don’t know which ones are non-poisonous. Can you teach me?" Yin Yang asked a bit sheepishly, looking at Xu Mumu.

"Sure, pick the ones that don’t have bright colors. The brightly colored ones are poisonous; these are the kinds you can eat." Xu Mumu pointed out a few edible mushrooms to Yin Yang.

"Thank you, Mr. Xu." Yin Yang thanked her earnestly; the people at the Zhiqing point never thought about picking mushrooms, and they didn’t even know how to tell if they were poisonous.

"It’s nothing." Xu Mumu smiled.

"Yesterday, when my grandpa went to find herbs, he discovered a tea tree. Do you like tea? I know how to stir-fry tea leaves. I’m planning to pick some this afternoon because my grandpa loves tea." On this mountain, it was just Xu Mumu and her younger siblings, so Yin Yang was much more relaxed when speaking.

"Sure, I like it too." Xu Mumu nodded. This kid had potential; she had helped him quite a lot, and now he knew to bring her things. Not bad, not bad. It proved that giving help pays off.

"As long as you like it." Yin Yang chuckled softly and began to pick mushrooms.

Xu Minglei and the others had wandered off, leaving only Xu Jiaojiao still here. She was naturally familiar with Yin Yang since he had even saved her big sister once.

The two of them chatted casually, and Xu Mumu discovered that Yin Yang really knew a lot.

Xu Mumu didn’t ask much more, feeling increasingly that Yin Yang was not a simple person. Having such a friend didn’t seem bad.

Chatting away while picking mushrooms, the morning passed by like that.

After parting ways with Yin Yang, Xu Minglei sidled up to Xu Mumu, "Sis, when did you and Yin Zhiqing become so close?"

"I helped him a few times, so naturally, we got closer." Xu Mumu replied with a smile.

"Big sister, Yin Zhiqing is really handsome." Xu Jiaojiao said with a grin.

"He is good-looking, even more so than some women." Xu Mumu laughed even more joyfully.

"Not true, Sis, you’re much better-looking than Yin Zhiqing." Xu Minglei said earnestly. He truly thought his sister was the prettiest.

"Sweet talker, I’ll get you guys some sponge cakes this afternoon." Xu Mumu said with a smile, planning to make a trip to the supply and marketing cooperative in the afternoon.

As Xu Mumu was nearing home, she saw Song Jiayan. It seemed she had just come back from town and was holding some food.

Upon seeing Xu Mumu, Song Jiayan’s expression was a bit sour. Chen Jinfu hadn’t returned her money and was now at home nursing his injury, unwilling to take on work.

Seeing Xu Mumu full of life, she got really annoyed.

However, looking at the wild vegetables in Xu Mumu’s basket, Song Jiayan gave her a disdainful glance. Truly a little village girl, only fit to eat wild vegetables, while her basket was filled with meat and all sorts of delicious food.

Watching Song Jiayan leave haughtily, Xu Mumu raised an eyebrow, picked up a small stone, and flicked it in Song Jiayan’s direction.

Song Jiayan was walking on a narrow path on the ridge between fields.

The stone Xu Mumu flicked landed just right on a nearby cobblestone, which then rolled under Song Jiayan’s foot.

"Ah!!" A scream echoed as Song Jiayan fell into a water field ditch, taking a nosedive, and the things she was holding fell into the mud, getting all dirty.

Xu Mumu curled her lips in a smile and simply led the kids back home.

The water in the ditch wasn’t enough to cause any real harm to Song Jiayan, just giving her a bit of trouble.

This was just a small lesson for her. Next time, Xu Mumu wouldn’t be so kind. She just hoped this girl would learn her lesson.

"Big sister, Song Zhiqing fell into the ditch. Should we go and help her out?" Xu Jiaojiao looked at Song Jiayan struggling in the ditch, a bit puzzled as she looked at her big sister.

"No need, that little ditch, she can climb out herself." Xu Mumu said calmly.

After all, no one saw her do it. It was Song Jiayan’s own clumsiness that made her fall into the ditch.

Seeing Song Jiayan in such a state actually pleased Xu Mumu quite a bit.

Upon reaching home, everyone was there. Her father and brother had also returned, and the straw basket in the yard was filled with bitter sandalwood leaves, the scent of which permeated the whole yard, although it wasn’t very pleasant.

"You picked so many mushrooms again, try not to go too far; some wild animals on the mountain are quite fierce." Madam Chen said, seeing how many mushrooms they had brought back, and helped them wash and lay them out to dry. Those that were damaged would be kept for lunch.

"Grandma, we didn’t go far, just over to where Dad set up that trap." Xu Tao said nonchalantly; they didn’t dare venture deep into the mountains either.

"Grandma, let’s use these mushrooms for lunch and add some meat to it." Xu Mumu said coquettishly to Madam Chen. There wasn’t much meat left at home, but Xu Mumu wasn’t worried. Once it ran out, she’d just go for another couple of rounds up the mountain.
