A Former Police Officer Who Died And Get A Second Life!-Chapter 133: A Day of Rest
"Yeah... I really don’t know either. He’s not even being stubborn about anything," Elias replied.
"...If they’re still like this tomorrow, it’s going to be a problem," Leander muttered.
Leander had been excited about the promised day off, but seeing Cari and Mayo acting like this made him start to feel anxious.
While Qiong Xing and Elias were worried about the children, Leander tightened the arm that was wrapped around Qiong Xing’s waist as if silently asking them to do something quickly.
"Well... they aren’t doing anything bad, so, Ah, Leander, that hurts. Please loosen your grip," Qiong Xing said.
"Huh? Seriously? S-sorry."
As soon as Qiong Xing pointed out that he was having trouble breathing, Leander quickly loosened his arms.
"Forcing them to separate would be cruel. If possible, I’d at least like to know the reason..." Qiong Xing continued.
They still did not know why Cari kept saying he felt "fluffy" and refused to leave.
As for Mayo, he had not even received any magic power from Qiong Xing, so it was even more confusing.
Normally, Mayo would sleep near Qiong Xing’s head.
But lately, since he refused to leave, he would hide inside the chest of Qiong Xing’s clothes and fall asleep there.
While worrying about what to do, Qiong Xing and the others eventually went to sleep as well.
"No!"
"But Cari..."
Just as expected, or perhaps it was inevitable.
The next morning, after waking up and finishing breakfast, Leander tried to take Qiong Xing away early.
But Cari and Mayo clung tightly to Qiong Xing and refused to let him go.
Even though they were not related by blood, Cari was like Qiong Xing’s own child and Mayo was his younger sibling.
Being blocked by the two of them, Leander was left standing there in complete frustration.
"Cari... Mayo... do you two hate me?" Leander asked.
"No. Cari likes Papa," Cari replied.
"Mayo~ Mayo~" Mayo chirped as if agreeing.
Leander’s face instantly softened into a foolish relaxed grin after hearing that they liked him.
Just then, Albe happened to walk past and saw it.
"Whoa, what’s with that face? That’s gross," Albe said in surprise.
"Shut up! More importantly, if you’re Cari’s big brother, then do something about this," Leander snapped.
"Isn’t it fine? It’ll probably go back to normal eventually," Albe said casually.
"I’m telling you to fix it now!" Leander shouted.
Taking his frustration out like that was not very admirable, but for Leander, the promise he had waited for until today was not something he could easily give up on.
"Qiong Xing is my mate. I’ve been holding back until today, so please, Cari," Leander pleaded.
"No!" Cari refused immediately.
Well... this was getting difficult.
At this point, Qiong Xing could not help feeling confused about what to do.
"Cari, what exactly is not okay?" Qiong Xing asked gently.
"Cari protects Mama!" Cari declared firmly.
"Hmmm..."
That was very cute, but Qiong Xing had no idea what Cari thought he needed protection from.
"Since Cari is like this today, could you please give up for now?" Qiong Xing asked Leander.
"Ugh... fine," Leander muttered reluctantly.
"Well, Qiong Xing doesn’t seem to be feeling well anyway. It can wait until he gets better," Joa said.
"Huh? Are you okay?" Albe asked worriedly when he heard that Qiong Xing was not feeling well.
"I just don’t have much appetite. I think it’s just a cold," Qiong Xing replied.
"You’re lying. You’re feeling sluggish, aren’t you? Stay in bed today," Joa said.
Even though Qiong Xing insisted that he was fine, Joa seemed to notice that his movements were unusual and told him to rest quietly.
After apologizing to the surprised Leander and Elias, Qiong Xing decided that he would take the day off after all.
"I-Is there anything you want me to do?" Leander asked.
"What do you want to eat? If there’s something you want, just tell me," Elias added.
Qiong Xing smiled at the two of them to reassure them that he was alright.
Since doing nothing would probably make them restless, he told Elias to go to work, while asking Leander to bring him some water.
"Mama, are you hurt?" Cari asked while looking like he was about to cry.
"I’m sorry," Qiong Xing said softly.
He had planned to ask Joa to help, but Cari refused to leave him.
So Qiong Xing decided to leave the nursing to Leander instead.
Since Leander had the day off, Qiong Xing felt a little guilty, but he decided to rely on him.
"S
I’m sorry for not noticing sooner," Leander said quietly.
"It’s really okay. I just feel a little tired. Nothing hurts, so please don’t worry about it. More importantly, I’m sorry for not being able to keep our promise," Qiong Xing replied.
"That doesn’t matter! Just rest. If it’s a light cold, it’ll get better if you sleep," Leander said firmly.
"Thank you."
Qiong Xing lightly kissed Leander on the cheek, then lay down on the bed.
Soon, he drifted off to sleep as his body demanded rest.
...
"Qiong Xing, are you okay? Do you think you can eat lunch?" Joa asked.
Qiong Xing slowly opened his eyes when he felt a gentle hand stroking his head.
When his vision cleared, he saw Joa looking down at him.
It seemed that he had continued sleeping since earlier and it was already noon.
"I’m sorry. I don’t think I can eat. Could you please look after Cari and Mayo for me?" Qiong Xing asked weakly.
He had no appetite at all.
With his sleepy mind, he barely managed to make that request.
Cari hesitated a little, so Qiong Xing asked him to go make some juice.
He immediately ran off energetically and Joa hurried after him.
"Leander, you should go eat too," Qiong Xing said.
"I’ll eat later. More importantly, are you feeling okay? Does anything hurt?" Leander asked worriedly.
"I’m fine. I’m just very sleepy. Everything else is okay," Qiong Xing replied.
