A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 228: THE TRUTH ABOU THE LYCAN (2)
Chapter 228: THE TRUTH ABOU THE LYCAN (2)
Zuri knew about the fact that the lycan took children for their ritual in order to complete the beauty blood. Before Khaos, the ritual for the beauty blood had been recorded and Khaos had taught her of how to read it.
She was not good at it, but Khaos had told her the number of the people, who had died in the process of the completion of the beauty blood. The number was huge, but apparently, what was said in the scriptures of the lycan didn’t cover the actual number.
What was written down in the scriptures, was only the children from the nobles’ families, but it didn’t cover the number of the children of the commoners.
Since beauty blood meant for a hundred dark curses, it meant they had to start it in the very early age, because they had to wait for the body to adjust to it and add the curses as time went by.
If they added the number of the commoners’ children, the number would be staggering.
And now, Zuri remembered of the old woman, who sold two little girls to her. She said it herself that the lycan wanted children. They needed the children for their ritual.
That woman was old enough to live in the era where the old dynasty was still at its peak.
"You may not believe me. I can understand that," Lorent said, his voice was soothing. He didn’t force Zuri to believe him, but he gave her space to think. "But, there is someone that I know, who was succumbed to that fate." He then added. "The same fate like you."
He knew.
This man knew that Zuri was the Shell. She was the beauty blood.
Zuri said nothing to respond to his statement. Her face didn’t betray the turmoil in her heart, but her head kept ringing with the voices that mocked her for her choice to choose Khaos.
"Come and meet me. I will take you to meet with her." Lorent took two steps back, allowed Zuri to breathe, she didn’t even realize that she was holding back her breath. "I hope, this conversation stays between us."
And that was the last thing that Lorent said before he walked away from her, reeling with the new information.
It was not being mentioned in the conversation that he knew about the beauty blood, that he knew Zuri was the Shell, but it felt like a tacit understanding between them.
Zuri felt sick when the voices in her head repeated what Lorent said over and over again about the fate of the Shells. They were dead.
The ritual was cruel. She knew about that, because right now, they had stopped to erase her memories about the pain and agony she had to go through during the ritual, when they afflicted the curse on her.
That was the worse thing that had ever happened to her.
Rhett was being ’nice’ when he was being considerate to erase her memories, even though it was for his own benefit.
’Do you really think there is no side effect of that?’
’Do you really believe that Khaos marked you, it meant he cared about you? He only wanted you to survive because you are only a curse away from completing his goal.’
’Dark curse is a dangerous magic. You will not leave this mess unscathed. You will be the manifestation of evil. You do remember what Lorent said, right? You are going to lose yourself and became the devil itself. You have felt it, right? You felt it in your bone.’ freewebnσvel.cѳm
’Your impulsiveness for violence.’
’Do you really think Khaos will be by your side once it’s done?’
Zuri gritted her teeth. She didn’t know how to feel, but then she reminded herself again and again that she knew Khaos used her and she allowed it to happen.
She reminded herself that she wanted to see the end of it with him. She was determined to help him.
She knew that she was being used.
But, the affection that Khaos showed to her, the way he cared for her, the attention and love that she craved so badly and no one had ever given to her until him...
Everything felt real. It felt like their feelings were real, but if once everything was done, would he treat her the same?
Khaos said that he could manage without the ultimate power of the lycan, he didn’t need her to complete the beauty blood, but Rhett had told her that they wouldn’t be able to take down the Great Lunar kingdom without it.
More so...
The reason for the three kingdoms to join hand and end the dynasty of the lycan sounded... justified.
They were cruel.
’So do you. You enjoy the cruelty. You relish in other people’s suffering. You were thrilled when you watched the execution, as if it was some kind of an amusement for you.’
’Don’t be a hypocrite. You are cruel too.’
[You need to stop frowning.]
Zuri startled when she heard Khaos’s voice in her head, as he mindlinked her from across the hall. Suddenly, the voices in her head disappeared and she could only hear his voice, which was a relief.
The crowning ceremony just ended and she didn’t even know how she could get through everything when her mind was not even there. Zuri couldn’t even tell whether it went smoothly or not. She felt like this was not her body.
[I am not frowning.] Zuri replied, she scrunched her nose when Khaos snickered in her head.
[Don’t lie, I can see wrinkle on your forehead. If you don’t stop, it can be a permanent thing.] He teased her and then came over to brush her bangs. "You don’t like to be here? Should we go somewhere else?"
Everyone was enjoying the party, drinking and singing, laughter echoed against the wall.
"How long will we stay here?"
"We will leave in two days."
And later that night, Zuri went to see Lorent.
