A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 242: ZURI WAS IN HER LUCID MOMENT
Chapter 242: ZURI WAS IN HER LUCID MOMENT
Lorent was sitting under a tree. He stared at Zuri, and probably for the first time, Zuri noticed the exhaustion in his eyes, but she hated the pitiful look that he gave her.
"Why didn’t you give me to Khaos, you can ask for your mate back." Zuri cracked her knuckles, feeling a little bit fidgety. "What is your end game? Why do you take me to the Great Palace?"
Zuri realized that she didn’t have much time left before her mind demanded for the drugs. She could relapse anytime.
The drugs not only gave her an illusion of happiness, but it also numbed the pain in her stomach, the claws from one of Lorent’s warriors would glare at her whenever she cleaned them up. They must have taken a good chunk of her flesh, because her stomach looked very ugly now.
And that was how Lauren learned that she had lost her healing ability, which actually surprised him because every shifter was born with it. But then the curses must have been so powerful to strip the shifter from the gift from the moon goddess.
Lorent sighed deeply. "Even if I exchange you with my mate, do you really think Khaos will play fair once he has you and I no longer have a leverage? He could kill me right there and then and continue with his plan to do whatever with my mate." Meeting him was a suicidal plan in Lorent’s opinion. "I knew I am doomed the moment Khaos took away my mate."
"Why would Khaos take your mate? He has no reason to do that."
Lorent chuckled derisively. "I don’t know, probably because he couldn’t bring himself to complete the beauty blood with you, then he took the chance to complete it with my mate."
"Khaos will not do that." Zuri was still defending him.
"You don’t know him. Of course, he can do that. He has been seeking for power and what kind of mate, who would refuse the ultimate power of the lycan within their grasp?"
Lorent hurled firewood to keep the firepit lit up. He stared at Zuri, but his expression was hard to decipher.
"There is only one chance for me and my mate to come out of this mess alive."
"Send me back and I will talk to him.
Lorent shook his head, as if Zuri’s suggestion was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. Probably, Zuri was being ridiculous now. She felt the effect of the withdrawal. It had been a few hours since Lorent gave her the drugs.
"Khaos will never really set me free. He is going to kill me because I have kidnapped you. I don’t have the power like he has, so it is very obvious. Do you really think he will play fair? He has never been a gentleman at all. He doesn’t play by the rule, so it’s not even a surprise if he backed down on his own word."
Zuri knew that was true. Khaos had backed down from his promise to her, where he said he was going to let the magic user to erase her memories but after he marked and mated her, he wanted her until the end.
Because of the stupid mate bond that he created without her permission, but at the same time, she couldn’t be angry about it because there was a moment where she craved his attention, where she wanted his presence so bad.
However, this only complicated things between them.
"So, what is your plan now? Are you going to take me to the Great Palace? And then what? What are you going to do then?"
They were sitting in the forest, canopied with so many trees that surrounded them, where Lorent had made a fireplace to warm up their bodies
But, Zuri still felt very cold. This was the effect of withdrawal. She knew she wouldn’t last for long without it. Yet, she wanted to hear what Lorent had planned.
"What I am going to do?" Lorent scoffed, he laid down on the cold ground, the season had changed and Zuri felt like Khaos was someone that she met in her past life. "I will take the ultimate power of the lycan. That’s what I am going to do," Lorent said without hesitation. "Only if I have the same power like him. I know that I can survive. I know that I can save my mate."
Lorent didn’t want the power for himself, he wanted the power to save himself and his mate from Khaos.
That was why he wanted it so bad, because in his mind that was the only way for him to be able to come out from this alive.
Somehow, Zuri felt jealousy toward Lorent’s mate. It could be said that Lorent loved his mate genuinely. He was willing to aggravate the lycan.
He did everything in his power to ensure the safety of his mate. He did everything to get his mate back, even when he had to offend Khaos and snatch the power that he didn’t really want. All of that was for the safety of his mate.
The love between them looked so pure and probably because they were each other destined mate. that was how a mate bond should be.
And now Zuri reflected it to the relationship between her and Khaos.
At first, she thought it was a genuine feeling, but later on she learned it was because of the attachment between the lycan and the Shell, and right now what she felt was the mate bond.
She wondered how it felt like to be loved like the way Lorent loved Gianna. It must feel good.
"Sleep, Zuri. We have a long journey ahead of us."
"I cannot sleep," Zuri said. She glared at him. "You need to give me that."
"No, I will not give you that. Not tonight. Try to sleep without it."
Zuri didn’t look pleased at all. "Give me that, Lorent or you will regret it."
