A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 287: THE SILENCE RESUMED
Chapter 287: THE SILENCE RESUMED
Both Declan and Rhett said nothing and didn’t even acknowledge each other. They stayed like that until they felt the wind turned colder and the shadow that crept on the wall formed a figure.
It was Khaos.
The brothers lifted their heads and watched wide eyed when the lycan stood before them.
Inside this dark and cold dungeon, they saw Khaos’s figure emerge from the dark’s shadow, and then he stood in front of Declan.
Right now, the man was a mess. He couldn’t perform any magic anymore. He was nothing but a useless piece of a man.
Meanwhile, Rhett who watched the two of them didn’t seem surprised to see Khaos was there. His expression didn’t change when the lycan approached Declan.
The lycan tilted his head as if he was thinking of what he was going to do to Declan. Obviously, he was done for.
There was no way he could get out of this situation alive and unscathed.
"I have told him to take no prisoners, but apparently he didn’t hear me well." Khaos stared at Declan while the other party stared back at him, his face contorted with pain.
The silver anklet that was put around his ankle prevented him from shifting and to heal himself quickly after they cut off his arms.
"Apparently, he indeed didn’t listen to you," Declan said in a hoarse voice, you could feel the pain only by hearing him.
The shadow behind Khaos moved as if it were a living creature that was waiting for its owner to give an order. frёeωebɳovel.com
Declan knew his death was near, thus he had nothing to fear. He said everything that he wanted to tell Khaos about how shitty he was and how he was the one who had helped him to get his power, but this was how he repaid him after he lost so many people and all the efforts that he put into the lycan’s goal.
"They saved the wrong baby. You should be ashamed of what you have done. You are so close to your goal, but you threw it all away only for a pussy."
Khaos’s shadow crept on the floor, moving slowly toward Declan. The intention of it was very obvious. Khaos simply let Declan blaber whatever he liked, to show him how desperate he was.
"They shouldn’t have saved you just because you have the bloodline of the lycan king. Any lycan would have been better than you. Even the lowest rank one."
Even the lowest rank of the lycan was still part of the royal. It just happened that Khaos was the firstborn of the lycan king.
"You are a disgrace for your kind. All of your predecessors would have cursed you! You are not worthy to be saved. You should be ashamed of yourself, your family and all the people, who had sacrificed their lives in order to save yours. All of the people, who entrusted their vengeance on you."
The shadow now engulfed half of Declan’s body and his words became even more vicious than before. He was desperate to make Khaos feel bad.
"You ruined so many people’s lives and now when you are so close to your goal, you threw everything. You make all of their sacrifices in vain. They sacrificed their lives for nothing!"
Declan had a lot of things to say, but he had not enough time, since the shadow had covered his body and now it crept to his face and shallow the rest of his complaint.
Within a few seconds, his figure had disappeared. He vanished. The darkness had devoured him. He would join his other comrades, who had betrayed Khaos, such as Bryden and Ezra.
"The same old song."
Once the shadow dispersed, Declan’s body was also dematerialized and the shadow gradually disappeared, leaving Khaos standing there alone.
The silence was very loud inside the cell, nothing moved, as if the time stopped as well and when Khaos finally turned around to face Rhett, the latter had already resigned to his fate. He knew it would be his turn after Khaos was done with Declan.
"Do you want to say something?" Khaos was being generous at this time. He was still Zuri’s favorite brother and some of her happy memories when she was little were with him.
Yet, Rhett simply shook his head. "I would like for you to promise me something, even though I know that you will do it anyway."
Khaos didn’t say anything, in which Rhett took it as his permission to speak.
"Promise me to take good care of Zuri." Rhett was being genuine this time.
He might use Zuri all this time, because of Declan’s order and for the sake of Terrence’s family, but it would be a lie if he didn’t feel a genuine feeling of love for his little sister.
It was sad that his feelings for Zuri were not enough for him to stand up for her.
"I know you will take care of her," Rhett said when Khaos’s claw elongated.
Not like how Khaos killed Declan, Ezra and Bryden, or thousands of warriors from that night, this time, Khaos killed Rhett with his own hand.
His claws ripped through his flesh and Khaos pulled out his heart, as Rhett groaned in agony, yet he didn’t fight back, even though it was a futile attempt. Instead, Rhett stared at Khaos and smiled in the end.
It might look cruel for Khaos to kill Rhett like this, but the truth was; that he gave him an honorable death. Khaos didn’t turn him into one of his creatures from the dark, but he killed him right away.
Once life left him, Rhett’s body fell to the ground, blood pooled on the floor and the smell filled the air.
Khaos stared at Rhett’s heart in his grip and burned it into nothingness. He didn’t spare him a glance when the shadow blanketed his figure and he vanished, leaving a bloody dead body.
The silence resumed.
