A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 37: THE ROYAL FUNERAL
Chapter 37: THE ROYAL FUNERAL
The Celeste kingdom was mourning the deaths of their queen and the newborn prince. The poor woman's labor lasted two whole days. During that time, the queen endured excruciating pain and was constantly in and out of consciousness. The baby was long gone.
After three miscarriages and one stillbirth, the last baby took his mother with him, ending her misery.
And today, a week after the death of Queen Rimera and her baby, a massive Royal funeral was held.
All the people were wearing gray, the mourning color of their kingdom, including the king, as he stood in front of the two caskets of his mate. The baby was still in her stomach, he refused to let someone cut her open.
As twisted as it sounded, Dacre loved Rimera. She was his destined mate after all. But it seemed, it was not enough to curb his desire for an heir, leading him to force her to get pregnant immediately each time they lost a baby.
The sky looked so bleak, even though it was still early summer.
Inside this building, only a few people attended the funeral. All of them came from prominent backgrounds, especially because Queen Rimera was the first daughter of King Amidas from the Wolfdale kingdom.
The other king himself came with his queen, three daughters and two sons, leaving behind his heir to look after the kingdom.
Meanwhile, Zuri came with Xaden and her parents. She was sitting on the back pew with her mother, but even from where she was sitting, she could see Queen Rimera's body. Her stomach was still bulging; the baby was still inside.

"That could be you one day.'
The voices whispered in her mind.
"Right, that could be me..." Zuri muttered to herself, but her mother elbowed her, reminding her to reign her thoughts in, while the funeral procession continued.
Queen Rimera's body would remain here for another week before she was buried, allowing the family to see her one last time.
And when all of their attention was on the dead queen or King Dacre and the elders were busy making acquaintances with King Amidas, Zuri's eyes found Khaos.
He was standing beside Dacre and Xaden, but looked taller than the two of them. His presence was very strong, even though he was not the king and Zuri could see the three daughters of King Amidas mesmerized by him. They couldn't take their eyes off him and this caused Zuri to have the urge to gauge their eyes out.
"Did something happen between you and Alpha Khaos?" Karina asked her daughter in a low voice, so it was only the two of them who could hear her.
Zuri gave her mother a look, but she didn't answer the question. Karina glanced at her daughter, but her expression was devoid of any emotions. Zuri had been very quiet ever since her 'argumentation' with her father.
"If you fancy him, make sure to be careful." Karina didn't reprimand Zuri, instead, she explained the situation in the palace. "Alpha Xaden has disliked Alpha Khaos for a long time. Even though Alpha Xaden shared the same mother and father with King Dacre, the King favors Alpha Khaos more than him, despite the fact that he doesn't show it blatantly. Alpha Khaos is responsible for the security of the kingdom. His power grew even more when he was sent to the Three Deadly Ways two years ago."
Karina then continued to tell her that Khaos had killed an elder from the River Creek pack and Elder Shawn had gone missing around the same time he returned. Zuri's father suspected it was Khaos who had captured him to torture him somewhere.
However, on the surface, they all appeared amicable with each other. The palace was far more complex than it seemed.
"Why are you telling me this?"
"You need to know the internal conflict among them." Karina glanced at her daughter. "You need to be smart and know your surroundings."
After the funeral, all of them went back to their respective bedrooms, they needed to gather together again at midnight for the midnight prayer. This was part of the ritual, which would continue for a week.
Needless to say, Zuri didn't have any other choice, but to sleep in the same bedroom as Xaden.
"I see you have not yet gotten pregnant." Xaden stalked toward Zuri, who was sitting on the edge of the bed. She was naked, but she didn't seem to be bothered by that fact. Xaden had seen her naked a few times by now.
"I can see my future," Zuri said in a small voice, but the bedroom was very quiet, the night was peaceful and her voice was the only sound in this room.
"What do you mean?" Xaden asked, he stood in front of Zuri and parted her legs. He pushed her body to the bed, as he hovered above her.
"Miscarriages, the death of the babies and then my own death."
Xaden chuckled darkly. "You are way stronger than Rimera," he said, as he kneaded her breast
and kissed her lips. He pinched her nipple which made Zuri gasp. He took this opportunity to plunge his tongue into her mouth, as he savored her. "Our baby will be stronger than Dacre's."
Zuri blinked her eyes. She felt nothing when he touched her, she didn't even feel her heart flutter. There was no feeling at all, even though right now Xaden was literally touching, kissing every inch of her body.
But, it was different when Khaos touched her. A single touch from him did more than this whole act of sex with Xaden.
This time, Zuri didn't numb her feelings, instead she closed her eyes and imagined those beautiful gray eyes staring back at her and a moan escaped her lips.
"Good, just like that... Zuri," Xaden said, he could feel her body responding to his touch. He kissed the hollow behind her ear and licked her there. "I know that you will like it."
However, Zuri opened her eyes and cupped his face, this time she kissed him hard to shut him
up.
