Chapter 143: Chapter 143: He Must Step In to Help

Clara Grant was desperately trying to keep a low profile, head bowed as she prepared to stand in the very back row. When all eyes suddenly turned to her in unison, she was mortified.

She stood there, unsure whether to move forward or stay put.

Faye Jennings called out to her again in a warm and friendly tone, "Clara, you’re finally here! The opening ceremony is about to begin. We were just waiting for you."

Her words seemed innocuous, but they were laced with hidden meaning.

These entertainment reporters weren’t paid to sit around and do nothing. Instantly, their minds started racing, filling in the blanks.

The entire cast and crew—the director, the screenwriter, the male and female leads—had all arrived early. Yet here was this unfamiliar face, a minor actress playing some unknown role, who had dared to show up right at the last minute, making everyone wait for her.

It was either a case of extreme arrogance or she had powerful backing.

But this was an Aegis production, led by Director Liam Keane himself. All the actors he selected had to have genuine talent. How could they possibly cast someone who got the role through connections?

Therefore, the only explanation was that this Clara Grant, thinking she’d been cast in *A Lifetime of Splendor*, had let it go to her head and become arrogant, not knowing her place.

Although this Clara Grant was a newcomer and a story about her might not attract much public attention, she was still part of the cast of *A Lifetime of Splendor*. Writing about her was, by extension, writing about the film, which gave the story some value.

And so, in an instant, all the reporters’ cameras swiveled toward Clara Grant, the sound of shutters filling the air. CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!

Clara Grant, who had never experienced anything like this, looked increasingly flustered and lost amidst the barrage of camera flashes and shutter clicks.

A smug smile played on Faye Jennings’s lips. She watched the flustered Clara Grant and nonchalantly raised an eyebrow.

’Heh. Once the reporters publish their articles, Clara Grant will be saddled with a reputation for being unprofessional, arrogant, and acting like a diva.’

’She might be Seth Quinn’s wife, the wife of Aegis’s president, but they haven’t gone public with their relationship, have they?’

’Besides, who’s to say their relationship won’t be over before it’s ever announced?’

’And even if Seth Quinn does have her back and I can’t completely ruin her reputation, it’s still satisfying to watch her squirm right now.’

’It’s her own fault for stealing my Seth Quinn.’

’It’s all because of her that Seth Quinn has grown so cold toward me. It’s all because of her that he said such hurtful things.’

’Clara Grant is just a showbiz rookie. If she can’t help Seth Quinn and only causes trouble for him, I refuse to believe he won’t get sick of her. Once he’s tired of her and the novelty wears off, he might just divorce her on the spot.’

Just as Faye Jennings was lost in her wishful thinking, she heard Miles Quinn, who was standing on Director Liam Keane’s other side, speak up. "Clara, why are you all dirty? Did something happen on your way here?"

Miles Quinn hadn’t noticed Clara Grant at first; he only saw her after Faye Jennings called out her name.

Although he was still adjusting to the sudden shift in her identity from a fellow student to his sister-in-law, he couldn’t just stand by and watch now that she was in an awkward predicament.

She was his sister-in-law, after all. He had to step in and help.

Having asked his question, he then explained to the reporters, "Oh, she’s also a student at The Nymphaea. My junior."

Clara Grant felt some of her tension secretly ease. Hearing Miles Quinn’s words, she forced herself to face the reporters’ cameras as gracefully as she could and began to speak:

"I’m so sorry. There was a car accident on my way here that caused a huge traffic jam. I was so worried I’d be late that I took a shortcut. The path was harder to navigate than I expected, which is why I’m such a mess. Please excuse my appearance."
