A Night of Desire-Chapter 97: What Can You Do to Me?
"Who said I bumped into you on purpose?" Juno Croft couldn’t resist retorting. "Don’t you dare make false accusations and play the victim! Other students just said it—I have no reason to hold a grudge against you, so why would I try to frame you?"
"And another thing," Cecilia Lee added with a sneer as soon as Juno Croft finished speaking. "You wanted proof, right? Well, take a look at the photos on the school forum. Hmph. The pictures are right there. The evidence is solid, yet you’re still here trying to deny it!"
As if that wasn’t enough, she raised her voice and added contemptuously, "The kind of man who’d keep a sugar baby is usually some fat, pot-bellied old geezer. You just latched onto a guy like that, so what gives you the right to be so arrogant?"
Clara Grant’s brow furrowed deeply. She looked down at the phone being held out to her, and sure enough!
In the short span of time between her getting out of Seth Quinn’s car and riding away on her bike, someone had snapped dozens of photos!
The pictures were surprisingly clear. Almost every single one captured a front or side view of her face. Anyone who wasn’t blind could easily tell it was her.
Seth Quinn, however, was sitting in the car with his back to the photographer, so his face wasn’t visible in any of the pictures.
And the captions... they were as nasty and vile as could be!
’If Seth Quinn found out that people were calling him a fat, pot-bellied old man and viciously slandering him like this, I wonder what his reaction would be!’
The thought of the priceless expression Seth Quinn would surely have made Clara Grant want to laugh.
She cleared her throat, holding back a smile, and looked up from the phone to scan the classroom. Not a single person seemed surprised by what Cecilia Lee had said.
’So, they’ve all seen these pictures already?’
The next moment, she turned to Chloe Grant and took a step forward.
The instant Clara moved, Chloe Grant took a large step forward to block her path, theatrically spreading her arms as if to shield the people behind her.
In a voice just loud enough for everyone to hear, she said, "Clara Grant, calm down. Violence won’t solve anything. I know their words were harsh, but the photos..."
"If what they said offended you, please be the bigger person and don’t hold it against them. And apologize to Juno Croft, then we can put all this behind us."
Her words made her sound like a peacemaker trying to calm the situation, but in reality, every sentence was a subtle jab, implying that Clara Grant had become arrogant and short-tempered now that she was being kept by a rich man.
She was also misleading everyone into believing that Clara Grant, furious and humiliated, was about to resort to violence.
Clara Grant mentally rolled her eyes. ’With which eye did she see me about to hit someone? She’s just deliberately trying to slander me.’
’Heh. If she wants to play games, I’ll play right along with her.’
Clara Grant leaned in, bringing her lips close to Chloe Grant’s ear, and whispered in a voice only they could hear, "Chloe Grant, you’re behind the photos, aren’t you?"
Chloe Grant felt a flicker of disappointment. There was no panic or fear in Clara Grant’s voice; instead, she sounded calm and composed.
But in the next moment, a smug, arrogant smile touched her lips. ’She must be pretending to be calm,’ she thought.
"That’s right, it was me. What can you do about it?" Chloe Grant’s voice was just as quiet.
"Even if I really am being kept by some man, aren’t you afraid that if Miles Quinn finds out you stabbed me in the back, he’ll despise you even more?"
Clara Grant knew that Chloe Grant liked Miles Quinn. She also knew that Miles Quinn didn’t like Chloe Grant.
Connecting this to the last incident—when Chloe Grant had photos but didn’t reveal them in front of Miles Quinn—Clara Grant guessed that Chloe was afraid it would make Miles dislike her even more.
"Hah! How would Miles ever know I did it?" Chloe Grant scoffed. "Even if you told him, do you have any proof? Who’s going to believe you?"
"You have a point." Clara Grant nodded in agreement. Then, her brow furrowed as she sighed, "Oh well. The truth will out, I suppose. Anyway, I’m taking leave starting tomorrow to go act in a film, so it’ll be out of sight, out of mind. I can’t be bothered to deal with this!"
"Acting in a film?" Chloe Grant was visibly stunned. ’How did I not know that Clara Grant landed a role?’
