A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality: Immortal Realm-Chapter 1299: Heavenly Secrets
Chapter 1299: Heavenly Secrets
There was a strange continent called the Heavenly Prayer Continent in the Middle Earth Immortal Region.
The local cultivators of the continent didn't spend their time cultivating or refining pills and treasures. Instead, everyone was enamored with the art of divination.
Through their divination, they gleaned the fates of others, predicting the course of their Great Dao and the future heights that they could potentially reach.
In the mortal world, divination had been used to find those who were blessed with a regal destiny, and those people could be supported into fulfilling their destiny of founding mortal empires, thereby granting their backers tremendous profits.
As for those in the cultivation world, they used divination to find bright prospects with an aptitude for cultivation, and some who were particularly skilled in this art were even able to take a child that hadn't yet begun cultivating and glean the heights that they would ultimately be able to reach. Equipped with this skill, these people helped immortal sects search for cultivation prodigies in exchange for handsome compensation.
The prosperity of the Heavenly Prayer Continent could be in large part attributed to the largest sect on the continent, a sect by the name of the Heavenmend Sect.
Just this one sect alone presided over half of the Heavenly Prayer Continent, and the sect had been in existence for countless years, with countless disciples under its prestigious manner.
It was no exaggeration to say that all of the divination techniques under the heavens could have their origins traced back to this sect.
Additionally, the Heavenmend Sect also had a secret technique that involved using quintessential divine rocks to refine various objects with clairvoyant abilities, the most renowned of which was the Chaotic Myriad Spirit Roll, an object that was able to predict the emergence of Profound Heavenly Treasures. [1]
Before the Profound Heavenly Spiritslash Sword first appeared in the Spirit Realm, the Chaotic Myriad Spirit Roll had already displayed a premonition and even pointed out the area in which the Profound Heavenly Treasure was set to emerge.
Whenever cultivators of the Heavenmend Sect left their sect to travel the world, they often concealed their own identities, or posed as cultivators of other sect to avoid the attention of those who wished to force them to use their powers of clairvoyance against their will.
The sect was situated in the eastern region of the Heavenly Prayer Continent, and it encompassed the Resting Dragon, Heavenly Cycle, and Hundred Aid Mountain Ranges. Of those three, the Resting Dragon Mountain Range was the main foundation of the sect.
The Heavenmend Sect had been situated in the Resting Dragon Mountain Range back when it was first founded, and its main peak, the Rising Dragon Peak, had since become a restricted area of the sect, one that was accessible only to the sect leader and several grand elders.
The Heavenly Inquiry Peak that neighbored the Rising Dragon Peak was where the sect's core disciples cultivated, and the mountain was littered with heavenly observation altars for disciples to observe the heavens from.
At this moment, there were several Heavenmend Sect disciples standing behind an authoritative-looking elderly man on an altar that extended out of the mountain, and one of them, a demonic disciple with the body of a human and the head of a goat, cupped his fist in a salute as he asked, "We are about to travel to the immortal regions for our training. Do you have any instructions for us, Elder Fu Feng?"
"Once you reach the immortal regions, you'll most likely be assigned with the task of manning the Ascension Platforms. Remember not to take any ascended cultivator lightly. All of them must possess certain extraordinary traits to have allowed them to ascend from their respective lower realms," Elder Fu Feng said.
"We'll be sure to keep that in mind, Elder Fu Feng," the disciples answered in unison.
"Also, when it comes to cultivators who have ascended from those legendary lost realms, do not perform divination on them lightly. If you can befriend them, then do so, but if you can't, then make sure to completely sever all karmic ties with them," Elder Fu Feng continued.
The disciples were a little perplexed to hear this, but they all gave affirmative responses, nevertheless.
Following their departure, a reminiscent look appeared in Elder Fu Feng's eyes as he cast his gaze into the distance and murmured to himself, "I wonder how high he's ascended right now."
Many years ago, he had met an ascended cultivator from a lost realm while serving at an Ascension Platform in the Northern Glacial Immortal Region under the alias of Gao Sheng from the Stone Ditch Palace.
At the time, his curiosity had driven him to use his divination techniques on the ascended cultivator, and even though he was only able to glean fragmented glimpses of the latter's future, that was enough to alter his image from that of a handsome young man to his current elderly appearance, and no rejuvenation techniques were able to reverse the transformation.
Hence, during the attack on the ascended cultivator, he had slipped away after faking his own death to sever all karmic ties before returning to the Heavenmend Sect.
Since then, he hadn't left the Middle Earth Immortal Region even once, nor had he had told anyone about what had happened back then.
To this day, the outcome of that bout of divination continued to weigh heavily on his mind, and it was something that he still thought about quite regularly.
Right at this moment, his expression suddenly changed slightly as he cast his gaze toward the Rising Dragon Peak, where a swirling cloud vortex had suddenly descended upon its summit from the heavens above.
For some reason, the protective array that encompassed the entire mountain failed to activate.
Fu Feng then cast his gaze toward a palace at the foot of the mountain to discover that the grand elder inside hadn't raised the alarm, and a peculiar look appeared on his face, but he knew not to pry into such matters.
......
The entire summit of the Rising Dragon Peak was enshrouded in a cloud of dense mist, within which a lush forest of peach trees could be seen.
At the center of the forest was an octagonal, black, stone altar that was no more than thirty feet in size, and each side of the altar bore an engraving of the eight trigrams.
At the center of the altar was a black vortex that seemed to have been giving off boundless suction force, and within the vortex was an elderly man with a set of twisted facial features.
Almost his entire body had been devoured by the black vortex, leaving only his head, one of his arms, and his neck exposed.

The man had a head of disheveled, white hair, and one of his eyes was completely white, clearly indicating that it was blind. On top of that, his entire face was riddled with patches of dark brown discoloration, giving him a very hideous appearance.
His other eye wasn't blind, but at this moment, it was half-closed in a weary manner, and it seemed as if he was standing on death's door.
Right at this moment, the vortex of clouds descended silently beside the altar, and a figure emerged from within it.
It was a tall and fair-skinned man with a pair of long and thin eyes. His nose wasn't particularly pronounced, and he had a pair of very thin lips. Overall, there was an air of grace and serenity about him, but he was seated on a white jade wheelchair.
He was dressed in a long, white robe, and there was a golden belt around his waist, hanging from which was a nine dragon jade pendant and a golden tassel.
As soon as he appeared, the elderly man's eye immediately sprang wide open to reveal a burst of radiant, golden light within, and he said in a hoarse voice, "You've finally come..."
"Indeed," the man on the wheelchair replied in a calm manner.
"I suppose you were always bound to come," the elderly man said with a wry smile. "What do you want from me this time?"
"I want you to carry out divination for me, Chen Tuan," the wheelchair-bound man replied.
The man that was almost fully submerged in the black vortex was none other than the founder of the Heavenmend Sect, Patriarch Chen Tuan. Who could've imagined that this hideous elderly man that was on the verge of being devoured by the Heavenly Dao would be the vastly renowned Clairvoyance Dao Ancestor of the Heavenly Court?
"I promised you thirty-six heavenly divinations and seventy-two earthly divinations. You have already requested one hundred and six divinations from me, leaving two heavenly divinations left, but I can only perform one more for you," Patriarch Chen Tuan said.
"I want to ask you to look into the Reincarnation Palace Master again. If he isn't eliminated, he'll continue to remain a potent thorn in our side," the wheelchair-bound man requested.
"The Reincarnation Palace Master has mastered the laws of reincarnation, allowing him to hide in the cycle of reincarnation, so my divination no longer works on him. The past seventy-two divinations that I've conducted at your request have all been on him, with not a single one yielding any outcome. Are you sure you want me to try and peer into his future again?" Chen Tuan asked.
"I'm certain," the wheelchair-bound man replied in a categorical manner.
Chen Tuan wasted no more time with words as he made a hand seal with his only remaining hand while chanting an incantation, and a beam of golden light surged out of his lone eye before projecting into space up ahead.
The space there instantly warped into a black vortex that sucked in the beam of golden light, and it seemed to have become connected with the black vortex that Chen Tuan was situated in.
Several minutes later, the beam of golden light faded away, as did the black vortex.
At the same time, translucent black threads suddenly extended out of the vortex behind Tuan Jing, then wrapped themselves around his only remaining arm before slowly dragging it into the vortex.
"How did it go?" the wheelchair-bound man asked.
"The Reincarnation Palace Master remains completely untraceable, but I've caught a glimpse of someone who's never appeared before, but has very deep ties to him," Tuan Jing replied, and he didn't appear alarmed at all by the fact that his arm had just been devoured by the vortex behind him.
A ball of translucent light flew out of his glabella as he spoke, then drifted down onto the wheelchair-bound man's hand before fading away.
The wheelchair-bound man nodded in response, then prepared to depart.
"I can only carry out one more heavenly divination before I am completely devoured by the Heavenly Dao. When is your plan going to bear fruit?" Chen Tuan asked.
"Soon," the wheelchair-bound man replied before rising up into the sky and vanishing out of sight.
Chen Tuan looked up into the heavens as he heaved a forlorn sigh, then closed his eyes to rest once again.
