A Twisted Love Affair-Chapter 227: Are you with him now (5)_1
Shen Jing was indifferent as she twisted off the cap and drank some water. She didn’t look at him anymore.
Surprised? Not surprised.
This city is the biggest capital market, gathering banking and financial institutions from all around the globe. How could it not have this banker who always loves to swallow up others?
The meeting wasn’t over yet. Zhou Luchen rose from his seat and exited. His computer and documents on the table were collected by his secretary, who followed him out. His figure slowly vanished behind the partition of the conference stage.
The meeting continued.
The remaining attendees were financial analysts discussing Dow Jones industrial stocks. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Shen Jing noted down the promising prospects.
After nearly three and a half hours, the first session finally ended.
It was time for informal discussions at the banquet. Some attendees left, while capitalists entered a separate dining area for business talks.
Blaire introduced her to a representative from a foreign-funded enterprise.
With her project proposal in hand, she mingled.
Sun Qiyan’s text message arrived: "What time shall I come pick you up?"
Amidst the gathering, Shen Jing looked down and texted, "In about 20 minutes."
Blaire tapped the champagne glass beside her. "What are you busy with?"
Shen Jing simply said it was nothing, looking down at her phone again.
"What would you like to eat? I’ll book a restaurant."
She replied, "Chinese food."
Mr. Blaire furrowed his brow slightly. "Your boyfriend?"
Shen Jing smiled and raised her glass. "Not at the moment. He’s a very good friend accompanying me on my trip to New York."
Blaire asked, "I can’t understand why Chairman Zhou is so keen on helping you, yet when you meet, you act like strangers. Ever since I’ve known him, I’ve never seen him lift a finger to help anyone."
The corners of Shen Jing’s eyes lifted in a smile. "Maybe it’s because I’m pretty, and he can’t bear to see me bullied."
Since it was a personal matter, Blaire didn’t press further.
There’s no such thing as unconditional giving, after all. That man is purely dictatorial and self-serving.
Her collaboration with the international investment firm went smoothly, and the organizing committee approved her proposal to proceed.
More smoothly than she had imagined.
Shen Jing hadn’t brought much with her into the venue. When she left, she was alone, head down, dialing a number.
"Qiyan, have you arrived?"
Qiyan... Such a warm, gentle, and tender nickname.
A moment later, around the corner, just as she uttered his name, Zhou Luchen’s figure came into view.
By the ornate railing, Zhou Luchen stood distinguished, leisurely chatting with a few politicians from another country. When he spoke, the emotion in his eyes was faint. Even when his gaze met hers, they only exchanged a brief look.
A sudden silence fell.
The voice on the other end of the call was tender, enunciating clearly, loud enough for everyone nearby to overhear the general meaning.
"Yes, I’m here. I’ll wait for you to come down so we can go to dinner. Do you have your coat? Did you leave anything behind?"
"I’m in a black Jeep. Can you see the license plate? Hmm... Or perhaps I should have that bodyguard escort you out, so you don’t have trouble finding the car."
"Or I can come get you. I’ll park the car first."
"Why aren’t you speaking? Are you on the stairs? Take your time coming down, little one. You stayed up late last night and didn’t sleep well. Remember to watch your step, don’t fall, okay?"
His voice was as soothing as a gentle stream. Considerate, with every word and breath conveying pampering and affection.
Some words, when strung together like that, really didn’t paint a normal picture.
Shen Jing felt a chill run down her spine. She murmured a soft "Mm-hmm" in response, hung up, and turned her head, suddenly unable to remember where the staircase was.
Walking quickly in high heels was awkward, making her appear even more uneasy and constrained.
"Chairman Zhou, I look forward to our meeting tomorrow."
After concluding the casual conversation, Zhou Luchen courteously accepted the documents handed to him and passed them to his bodyguard to place in the safe.
"Chairman, shall we take these back to the manor?"
He uttered a soft "Mm," calmly adjusted the cufflinks of his suit, and then, his gaze following the figure at the far end of the corridor, he began to stride forward with his long legs.
