A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 43: She wanted her gone
Curtis kissed Lara for a long, long time. And when he finally pushed away from her, Lara was stunned.
She tried to speak, but was unable to. Her mind was muddled, but there was one thing that was ridiculously clear to her.
That kiss? It wasn’t a mistake.
Her mind started to spin as she thought about it. Why would Curtis kiss her all of a sudden? 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
It was weird. And it made her want to shake him until he answered her questions.
But Curtis did not look as though he was in the mood to answer any questions.
He held her gaze with a cool and bland expression, like he had not just ravished her a few minutes ago, and then he spoke.
"Go home, Lara."
She wanted to object. Lara badly wanted to stamp her feet down and tell him no. But she didn’t.
She had known him long enough to know that he wasn’t going to take it lightly with her if she started a fight or an argument right now.
So she just turned around, walked up to her car, and drove away.
When the sound of her car had completely faded away, Curtis turned to stare at the driveway. His body was coiled and wound tight like a taut rope.
He hadn’t intended to kiss her. No. Curtis was well aware of the fact that their contract did not allow any sort of sexual intimacy with each other.
But he had been tempted. Curtis thought she looked so fucking gorgeous, and every single day since he realised that he was in love with her, he had been fighting the urge to kiss her senseless.
Of course he didn’t just want to kiss her. There were other things he wanted to do to Lara, but Curtis knew that even thinking about it meant crossing a line.
She didn’t have to know though. Curtis knew that Lara was definitely going to ask him why he kissed her again today, and he was not sure what he was supposed to tell her.
But Curtis wasn’t worried. She didn’t have to know the reason behind his every action.
He was not obligated to tell her anything.
Or maybe he could just tell her the truth. That he had been mad at her for even daring to suggest that she was okay with him sleeping with another woman.
That it was annoying how she had drove all the way to see him and tell him that she was not cheating. Only for her to ruin things by telling him that it was okay to do whatever he wanted.
If she asked why he kissed her, maybe Curtis would just give in and tell her that the kiss was to show her that even if he wanted to sleep with a woman, that woman would have to be her.
With a shake of his head though, Curtis cleared his thoughts.
There was no point in letting those thoughts consume him. It was a useless endeavour. And her presence had made him worse than he was before he walked out on her.
Curtis was about to continue shooting his birds when his phone rang. He frowned at the intrusion, but decided to ignore it.
Whoever it was could wait, he thought.
But the caller was relentless. The phone rang continuously, and the incessant sound of the ringtone threatened to drive him crazy.
By the time Curtis picked up the phone to see who it was, his blood was at the risk of turning to lava.
It didn’t help that the caller turned out to be his sister too.
"What?" he barked into the phone as soon as he clicked on the green icon.
"Hello, Curtis. Is this a bad time?" Laura asked. Curtis felt as though he was going to explode from his rage.
"What do you want, Laura?" he asked, ignoring her question and not bothering to respond to her greeting.
Laura sighed audibly.
"I just...I wanted to remind you that we are still your family, regardless of what is currently happening. We have never not wanted you to be happy, and we will not take away whatever it is that makes you happy now as long as it is a good thing. You need to remember this, Curtis," Laura stated, and there was some sort of urgency in her words that stirred a sense of danger in Curtis.
"What the hell are you talking about?" he snapped. Laura hesitated. She knew her brother was going to flare up in her face and probably get them all arrested if he knew the plan that was underway.
But Laura wasn’t trying to tell Curtis the plan. She was just trying to warn her brother, the one who had looked out for her all their lives.
"Curtis, please don’t be mad at me for saying this, but that woman is lying to you. She is not who you think she is. You can’t trust her," Laura said desperately.
And Curtis stiffened.
"Don’t you ever call me to talk about Lara again. Never. The next time you call me just to badmouth the woman I married, you will face my wrath. You are my sister, but I will not hesitate to put you in your place if you try this again," he deadpanned.
Laura cursed softly.
"For fuck’s sake, Curtis. Stop being so stubborn. I am trying to help you here. She might be pregnant for you, but there are things you don’t know and you should know about her. You need to believe me. I am your sister! You might be willing to throw Amanda in jail for trying to tell you the truth, but are you seriously going to choose what woman over me? I am your blood sister!"
Laura’s words had an edge now, and she spoke so rapidly that her words stumbled out of her mouth.
"This is your last warning, Laura," was Curtis’ only response before he hung up.
Laura was stunned.
She knew her brother was totally infatuated with the woman enough to get into a fight with their mother, but he had always listened to her.
Not anymore, apparently.
Laura felt stupid. She was only trying to help. Afterall, he was the only sibling she had in the entire world. She had even been reluctant to go through with the plan Lisa had come up with.
But now? She was done caring.
Now that he had thrown her help in her face, Laura’s mind was made up.
Originally, she had wanted nothing to do with the plan.
But now, she would do everything she could to help.
Laura didn’t mind if her brother’s wife died in the process. She wanted her gone, just like everyone else.
