A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 53: Your threats meant nothing to me
"Have a nice day at work, my love," Tolu said in a cheery voice and went on her tiptoes to kiss Mike on the cheek.
"You too, baby," he responded as he walked into his office. Tolu hummed as she made her way down to her own office, and she was so happy.
It was very obvious that she was excited. And the cause of Tolu’s happiness was nothing other than the fact that Lisa had sent her a text this morning to inform her that Lara’s maid had agreed to poison Lara.
Which gave Tolu the go ahead to initiate the next plan.
Tolu could not wait.
There was a spring in her step as she walked and stopped before her door. She pushed the door open and stepped in.
And her excitement dimmed considerably when she saw that someone was in her office.
It was a man.
She had no idea who the man was, because he was facing the window, which meant that all she could see was his back.
Anger bloomed in her chest. She cleared her throat and crossed her arms over her chest.
"And who the hell are you, standing in my office?" she snapped, her brows furrowed into an unpleasant frown.
The man turned around. His face came into view, and it took a moment before it registered in Tolu’s brain that she knew the man.
He was so familiar and yet so strange at the same time. Tolu knew of him, knew about him. She had seen pictures of him, she had fantasized about being the woman of his dreams.
She had imagined a lot of dirty thoughts about him, but she had never seen him in real life.
And yet here he was, standing before her. Standing in her office.
Curtis Rodney.
Her anger died as swiftly as it came, and desire flooded her body.
What a beautiful man, she thought. He was so perfect, so fucking exquisite.
He could have asked her to kneel down and bark like a dog, and Tolu would not hesitate to do so.
But she was also disappointed in him. Of all the woman he could have chosen to fall in love with, he had to choose Lara.
The hatred Tolu had for Lara intensified, and she almost choked on the hatred.
"When you’re done staring at me like you want to eat me, you can let me know," Curtis snapped, and the sharpness of his voice jolted Tolu out of her thoughts.
She could not let him see that she was a mess. That her emotions were currently a mixture of desire for him and hatred for Lara. That standing so close to him was making her intoxicated.
That she would not mind cheating on Mike just to have a one night stand with him.
Tolu pushed all of these thoughts away, masked her emotions, and narrowed her eyes at him.
"Hello, Mr. Curtis. This is a pleasant surprise. How can I help you?" she said sweetly.
Curtis glared at her.
"Listen to me and listen very carefully. I am only here to extend a simple courtesy to you, and that is because my wife will be displeased by what I originally intended to do," he started to speak.
There was a hard, blunt edge in his voice, and a shiver of fear ran down Tolu’s spine.
Curtis took a menacing step closer.
"If it was not for Lara, I would have fired your sorry ass. And I am still not above doing that. I am here to give you a warning. If you do as much as look in Lara’s direction, hell, if you breathe in the same air she does, I am going to make your life utterly miserable. I will ruin you, I will ruin everything that you are and all that is associated with you. I will make life a living hell, and you will beg for death by the time I am done with you. Stay the fuck away from my wife," Curtis deadpanned.
Each and every word that slipped past his lips was delivered with such intensity that Tolu could not hide her tremble.
Judging from how he delivered his message, it was obvious that he meant every word he said.
But Tolu wasn’t a spineless woman. His words scared her, and she might have backed off from tormenting Lara if Lisa had not reached out to her first.
Curtis was too late. His threat was meaningless to Tolu. Lisa had promised her a shitload of money, and if she backed out now, Tolu knew that she was going to get nothing.
So she cocked her head to the side and stared at Curtis straight in the eye.
"I’m sorry to tell you this, well, I’m not sorry, I’m just trying to be polite. But anyway, as I was saying, you’re too late. Your threat means nothing to me, Curtis. I can’t back out now just because your supposed wife came running to you at her slightest discomfort. The die has been cast, Curtis, so you might as well give up. It’s too late."
She shrugged as she spoke, and Curtis narrowed his eyes at her at the implication in her words.
"What do you mean, it’s too late? What did you do?" he growled.
Tolu let her lips stretch into a wide, savage grin.
"I said what I said. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have work to do," she said and started walking past him to her desk.
"If something happens to my wife, you are going to regret it," Curtis promised.
Tolu rolled her eyes at his words. "You know, if you are so desperate to save her from the inevitable, there is one thing you can do," she paused for effect.
Curtis said nothing, only waited for her to say whatever she wanted to say.
Tolu made a show of raking her eyes all over his body, then she winked and bit her lips.
"It’s simple. Take me for one night. Use my body. Make me feel pleasure like I have never felt before. I am sure a man like you knows his way around the bedroom. Let me spend one night with you, Curtis, and I promise to call my partner and tell her the deal is off. Your wife will be safe, and everything will be fine."
Curtis said nothing, and the silence stretched between them with nothing but her words hanging in the air.
Tolu’s heart thrummed with anticipation. She hadn’t been entirely truthful with Curtis.
If Curtis accepted her offer, she was going to call Lisa and tell her she wasn’t interested.
Then to torment Lara, she would tell her how Curtis slept with her. That was sure to ruin the marriage, Tolu thought.
Curtis snorted. "You’re disgusting. Do your worst, and watch your world crumble around you."
Without waiting for her response, Curtis walked out of the door. He brought out his phone and dialed Lazarus.
"I need you to fire someone for me. Her name is Tolu Greg."
