Above The Sky-Chapter 1871 - 384: Terra Amid the Calamity of Light
During these three days, numerous events unfolded across Terra.
The arrival of the Calamity of Light caught everyone off guard. All major Orthodox Churches and nations had prophesied that the Calamity of Light would surely happen, but there would be signs before it occurred, and it would not come so swiftly. Thus, the sudden universe-covering, endless dazzling light truly took everyone by surprise.
Yet soon, the higher-ups in various nations discovered a truth that left everyone silent.
——The current situation in Terra is precisely the precursor to the Calamity of Light.
This is just the precursor?
Under the rays as scorching as the midday sun, many plants began to yellow and wilt, and many wild beasts lost their ability to determine day from night or navigate using the magnetic field. Frenzied beasts attacked towns, while large flocks of seabirds fell upon coastal shores, the crows in cities cawing, and various small beasts darting wildly, desperately seeking a ’safe’ nest. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
The entire ecological system of Terra has undergone abrupt changes; many mountain folk and wild people from rural villages have started to gather towards the big cities because the natural environment of Terra is no longer suitable for their survival.
But this is merely the beginning.
Terra’s nature is alive.
This statement seems redundant, as all plants and animals are alive — how could a natural ecological circle composed of them not have life? But its true meaning is that the nature of Terra is not a broad concept; it inherently has substance and a center.
That is the Heavenly Ladder System lurking within the Terra Continent.
At Whale Song Cliff, the Descendants of the Sea exclaimed, pointing at a luminous ocean, accompanied by azure light emerging from the sea depths, as large groups of Sea Demon Worms gathered around the crystallized gigantic seaweed stalks rising. But soon, those most familiar with sea creatures were stunned to discover that the Sea Demon Worms they saw were no longer the gluttonous swarm of the past but had become vassals of the crystallized seaweed.
Five hundred years passed, and the Sea Demon Worm nests, deprived of a mother worm, spread to every corner of the seabed, yet they could no longer thrive, only able to propagate as a special kind of magical beast, periodically harvested by Whale Song Cliff. During this long evolution, another existence capable of issuing orders and leading them to advance, survive, propagate, and prosper subdued this dispersed swarm, becoming the new master of the Sea Demon Worms.
That is Terra’s ’Origin Sea Veins’, the Heavenly Ladder regulating Terra Ocean’s ecological environment.
In ancient pre-epoch civilization times, the Origin Sea Veins had a complete set of automated maintenance equipment for its control. But now, having lost all subordinate units, the Origin Sea Veins can only gradually restore Terra’s ocean vitality from a macro perspective, such as through minor migratory plankton and adjustments to ocean currents and typhoons.
The treason of the Sea Demon Worms granted it extremely handy control units, also explaining why, over the years, the Sea Demon Worms never went extinct — they had become part of the Heavenly Ladder.
The appearance of the Sea Demon Worm was not intended for war; on the contrary, this swarm of Sea Demon Worms has created a large ’sanctuary area’ along the coast of Whale Song Cliff. A ’T’-shaped shelter formed by a large quantity of crystallized seaweed protects numerous shallow-sea marine organisms, shielding them from the external scorching light’s radiation.
Meanwhile, in the deep sea, semicircular shelters have already been completed.
The Whale Song Cliff People gazed at all this in bewilderment, with some wanting to destroy the forming shelters but being stopped by orders from above.
"The sea itself is undergoing self-rescue."
The Fifth Energy Level powerhouse from Whale Song Cliff, the Ymia siblings, watched all this gravely; the brother spoke in a low voice: "Conversely, in the sea’s judgment, this disaster is already beyond what natural ecology can withstand; external help is required for the survival of some species."
"The Planetary Shield supported by the Sertar Empire should be used now, but it’s too soon; the whole system hasn’t been completed."
The sister looked landward with some concern, where a shield system resembling towering shields was under construction: "Though the Solitary Mountain meeting had the Empire express willingness to support neutral nations, taking out the Planetary Shield so easily is still somewhat unbelievable... I thought Axel might extort us a bit."
"The free ones are the costliest. We may have already been extorted, but can’t see the issue yet."
The brother spoke solemnly: "At least it really works; it can protect our people."
It’s not just the sea.
In the Southern Region, the Redwood Forest tree spirits exude dense mist, which is not water vapor but a fine, reflective crystalline fiber, similar to catkins and dandelions, nearly covering the entire southern part of the South Ridge.
In Icewind Valley, the drifting scale powder completely covers nearby glaciers.
In the Dark Mountain Range, a layer of invisible film floats in the troposphere, filtering excessively harmful radiation.
In Canaan Moore, plants on the Gaia Plain begin rapid transformation, strengthening their ability to absorb solar energy, adapting themselves to high-temperature, high-energy environments.
In Yanjiang, Subspace slowly expands, deflecting most sunlight, casting a shadow faintly.
Across Terra, all local powerhouses are using their methods to temporarily resist the harm from the Calamity of Light’s precursors.
They cannot protect the entire natural ecology but can shield the most crucial areas, allowing the natural ecology itself to concentrate on self-preservation and await future recovery.
