With a thud, Zhang Biao’s sturdy body was heavily thrown onto the floor, and Wang Lei, like a dead dog, plopped down, gasping for air. Although in the game, he had significantly increased his strength and stamina attributes - at least twice as powerful as an ordinary person in the real world - he was, after all, from the Mage Professions, where strength and stamina were not the main attributes. No matter how strong he was, there was a limit. So, overall, he was far behind those fierce close-combat professions. Plus, with Zhang Biao weighing a good 200 pounds, the journey had nearly killed him from exhaustion.

Hearing the thud, Lin Beifeng, who had been curled up in a corner, suddenly opened his eyes. His gaze fell on the body on the ground, and then with a hoarse, mocking voice he said, "I smell the scent of a dead person - so it seems you’ve brought me a midnight snack?"

He looked at the body on the ground, licking his lips, his eyes shining with a beast-like glint.

Feeling a wave of nausea at Lin Beifeng’s expression, Wang Lei exclaimed, "That’s Zhang Biao, you beast, are you going to eat even the corpse of your own brother?" After speaking, he raised his hand, ready to strike with a Palm Thunder, but Yan Zhong abruptly grabbed his wrist, shaking his head at him.

"Zhang Biao? Brother?" Lin Beifeng’s eyes flickered with a trace of confusion before suddenly becoming clear, "Zhang Biao is dead? How is that possible!" He looked at the body on the ground and suddenly let out a wail, "How could Zhang Biao be dead, who did it, who did it!?"

Within the Qilin quintet, he and Zhang Biao had been exceptionally close, hence his unusually strong reaction.

Yan Zhong walked up to him and stood there, looking down on him, "I don’t know what wickedness has possessed you, but if you’re still Lin Beifeng and you want to avenge Zhang Biao, gather your Spirit and help me find that guy."

Wang Lei cried out, "No, boss, this guy’s clearly gone mad, how can we let him go?"

Yan Zhong, however, shook his head, "He’s not mad. Besides, we’re a man down now, and Xiao Buli has acquired an assistant. It’s even harder to take him down now; we need all four of us to be sure. Moreover, Lin Beifeng’s abilities can help us find him."

Wang Lei questioned, "You say Lin Beifeng isn’t mad, then what is this state of his?"

Yan Zhong sighed, "You’ll find out soon enough."

Seeing that he didn’t want to talk, Wang Lei felt helpless, "Boss, I think we should just give up. Dugu Han isn’t a good person either. Why not just leave the organization? Could they send people to hunt us down?"

Yan Zhong yet again shook his head and looked at Wang Lei with a touch of scorn, "If you want to end up like Lin Beifeng, then go ahead. I won’t stop you."

"End up like Lin Beifeng? What do you mean?" Wang Lei was puzzled for a moment but didn’t leave. Despite not fully grasping the meaning behind Yan Zhong’s words, his instinct told him that the situation was more complicated than it seemed, so he decided to watch and wait for now.

Yan Zhong crouched down, "Lin Beifeng, I have to let you go now to catch that guy, but I warn you, don’t try anything funny. Even if you’re my teammate, I’ll take action."

Lin Beifeng nodded and then shook his head, "I’ll try my best."

Dissatisfied with that answer, but still nodding, Yan Zhong turned to Dian Lan, "Comb him out."

Sitting in a chair, a towel wrapped around his neck, Lin Beifeng watched with trepidation as Dian Lan’s dagger danced above his head in the mirror.

While trimming his hair and beard, Dian Lan asked with an air of nonchalance, "So, what’s really going on with you?"

Lin Beifeng just gave a wry smile and shook his head, "I don’t know, honestly, I don’t have a clue myself." A hint of confusion appeared in his eyes, "All I remember is a voice that kept calling my name incessantly. Sometimes that voice is so clear, so familiar, as if I’ve heard it countless times before and responded to it."

"Sometimes I feel like I’ve transformed into someone else, or something else. I have this urgent desire to heed that voice’s summon—" He lifted his head to look at Dian Lan, "Am I sick?"

Dian Lan and Lin Beifeng locked eyes, and for some reason, she knew at that moment that he wasn’t lying.

"If you genuinely yearn to follow that voice’s summon, then go ahead, but before that, help us find the guy who killed Zhang Biao. Is your beastly intuition still there?" she asked.

The beastly intuition was Lin Beifeng’s unique ability in the game. He was a Monster Shaman, a rare individual capable of utilizing the Demon Race’s spell abilities. However, learning such spells wasn’t without a price—his body hair seemed to have grown denser. It didn’t seem like an issue in the game, but now the symptoms were becoming noticeably pronounced.

Listening to the conversation outside, Yan Zhong stared at his own reflection in the mirror, at the half head of white hair it showed, a wave of unease flashing through his heart.

He knew these changes weren’t temporary and hadn’t even fully taken hold yet. Sooner or later, he would become just like his in-game self, at which point it would be irreversible—he had to return to the organization, only the boss knew how to combat these changes, he had to go back.

After washing his face, when Yan Zhong emerged from the restroom, Lin Beifeng’s hair and beard had been neatly groomed.

He looked much more refreshed, at least normal, like a person should.

"Give him that thing," Yan Zhong said.

Dian Lan reached into a cloth bag and pulled out a short-sleeved shirt. It was left behind by Xiao Buli in his room. Watching Lin Beifeng take the shirt, Yan Zhong coldly instructed, "Remember its scent in your mind because it will lead us home."

As Yan Zhong spoke, he fished out some bone dice from his pocket, "Now let’s see which direction that guy has run off to."

Mumbling to himself, he hurled the bone dice forcefully.

Having finally escaped, Xiao Buli sat in the car, repeatedly flooring the accelerator. He hadn’t used Cloud Thunder Leap, as the recent battle had drained a substantial amount of his True Origin Points. To avoid getting into a tight spot, he decided not to use it again until his True Yuan had recovered.

They probably won’t catch up now, he thought, as he had already left that small town. To avoid causing any trouble for Gu Shaobang and the others, Xiao Buli decided to get as far from there as possible and headed north.

Through the night-vision goggles, a rider on a black Honda motorcycle was rapidly chasing from behind. Xiao Buli’s heart tightened, (Still not giving up, huh? But there’s only one of you, so why should I be afraid?)
