Just as Wang Wenge issued the command, Luo Sen was looking around at the environment they were in, which happened to be a clearing on the edge of a forest.

He’d traveled through many places in this world, and everywhere was desolate, with no trace of human footprints. It was as if there were no humans in this world at all. Even birds and beasts were rare sights. Occasionally, the shadow of a wild animal could be spotted, but even then, they would keep their distance and avoid them, seemingly very wary of these unexpected guests.

But aside from that, this place was quite interesting. The sun in the sky was round and large but didn’t seem to dazzle one’s eyes. At night, the moon was also unusually large, completely different from the one in reality. Occasionally, he could find some wild fruits in the forest which, though unassuming, tasted delicious. This made Luo Sen wonder if he was dreaming, although it was not his first time coming to this strange place. Luo Sen remained curious about it.

How had it formed, and how had they entered it? Would anything that happened here affect reality? Although he didn’t fully understand the significance of a virtual world, human nature prompted him to think about such things.

Luo Sen privately guessed that this place might be a dream, and the supercomputer they connected to could be a dream-making machine. It was said that ancient Immortal Sorcerers could enter people’s dreams. Perhaps those scientists in white lab coats possessed similar abilities.

This speculation made him deeply respect those in the white lab coats and feel fortunate to have the opportunity to encounter such things. If it weren’t for the dizziness when entering and the prickling sensation upon leaving this world, it would have been almost perfect.

To say "almost perfect" because the people in his group were always changing. Those who entered the Dream World with him didn’t always stay. So far, they had been replaced by several groups of people. As for where those replaced had gone, that remained a mystery to Luo Sen.

They had been in and out of this dream many times, making new discoveries each time. The last time, they found the ruins of a village not far behind them. When they discovered the village, Wang Wenge was quite thrilled, thinking they had finally found humans in the Dream World. But after searching inside and out several times, they realized the place seemed to have been abandoned for a long time with no signs of human activity, resulting in profound disappointment.

The village greatly resembled the small mountain village where Luo Sen used to live—equally desolate and secluded, perhaps even more so. If he could, he would have liked to explore this little village thoroughly, but Wang Wenge didn’t seem keen on wasting too much time.

"Alright, that’s today’s mission. Our goal is to catch one of the wild beasts of this world to see if there is anything special about it. Hurry up, we don’t have much time. We must complete this stage of the experiment before dark. Okay, now let me assign the tasks. Luo Sen, you’re in charge of finding and luring the wild beast."

"Liu Xuanzhen, Bi Huaxuan, the two of you are responsible for digging traps. Wang Wenbo, Lei Zhengang, you two go find some rocks. Once the beast falls in, start throwing them. Liu Xuanzhen, Liu Xuanzhen, what are you doing!"

Wang Wenge’s voice suddenly rose, and Luo Sen turned to look back. Liu Xuanzhen was standing in front of a huge stone tablet at the entrance to the village ruins, lost in a trance.

The stone tablet looked very worn, half-buried in the earth, with faint inscriptions on the exposed part. Beside the tablet were some broken walls and structures, appearing to be the remnants of a temple.

"Hey, I’m talking to you! Turn around!"

Wang Wenge slapped Liu Xuanzhen’s shoulder hard, and the latter turned his head, chuckling and nodding, "Oh, I heard you." With a sidestep, he subtly avoided Wang Wenge’s hand. For some reason, seeing Liu Xuanzhen’s cheery expression, Wang Wenge suddenly felt a very warm and comfortable feeling.

"Oh, good to hear that; don’t run off again," Wang Wenge said, his tone full of admonishment and devoid of any scolding, which greatly surprised Luo Sen. Since when did these two get along so well?

Wang Wenge suddenly turned back, "Luo Sen, what are you spacing out for? Hurry up and lead the way." Discover hidden stories at novelbuddy

With a bitter face, Luo Sen nodded and turned towards the forest path.

Walking along the forest path, Luo Sen couldn’t help but complain inwardly. He had hunting experience, though just with pheasants and hares. In his opinion, Wang Wenge’s method was utterly unprofessional, even digging traps; what for? The forest was lush and gave off the dangerous vibe of the Barbaric Wilderness. He hadn’t actually been to such a place, but luckily this was just a dream. No matter how severely injured in the Dream World, not a single hair would be missing in reality. People from his previous team had been injured and even died here, but upon waking up, they were unscathed, only sent for psychological therapy ’to maintain good mental health.’ They didn’t seem too traumatized, so Luo Sen wasn’t afraid to face danger and just took it as a game.

A roar made Luo Sen jump, and he swiftly turned back, only to see a snow-white tiger with black stripes staring intently at him.

Even though he knew it was just a dream, Luo Sen was startled. A tiger, and the legendary white one at that, a first sighting for him.

Fortunately, he remembered the plan and immediately turned and ran.

Luo Sen ran swiftly, with the tiger trailing behind neither too eagerly nor too lethargically, as if in no rush for its breakfast. As soon as he reached the clearing beyond the trees, the sight of the dried grass relaxed his mind.

Finally there! He thought and rushed towards the pile of dried grass, under which lay the pit trap, covered by a layer of branches just strong enough to hold a human’s weight, but surely not a tiger’s.

Luo Sen leaped over the pit, and a tiger’s roar sounded so close behind him it felt within arm’s reach. Despite knowing that dying here would be inconsequential, Luo Sen was so frightened that he plunged forward as the tiger fell with a roar.

Several people suddenly rushed out from behind the mounds of earth. One person carrying a large rock started hammering down on the tiger in the pit, unable to climb out. Wang Wenge watched and laughed heartily, "This is excellent, we finally did it."

After a few attempts to climb out, the tiger suddenly stopped, lying in the pit without further movement. Its body started to stand up, twisted bizarrely, and shockingly transformed into a Tiger-headed Monster that seemed capable of climbing like humans, scrambling out of the pit in just a moment.

Everyone was left staring in shock.
