Abyss Summoner-Chapter 44 - 42: Appetizer
The soldiers started cleaning up the battlefield.
The wilderness is brutal; a simple encounter cost the troops nearly sixty lives, while the death rate among civilians was even higher. Chaos and dispersal allowed the corpse centipede larvae to infiltrate, resulting in over a hundred deaths from the battle. Some limbs were scattered aside, and due to gnawing, these bodies could not even be assembled.
Chen Feng stood his ground, watching the wailing and sobbing crowd, a flicker of thought crossing his eyes.
He altered some trajectories.
If he hadn’t summoned the Demon Hunting Spider, everyone present would have become food for the Corpse Centipede Mother. Even Zhou Xian, a renowned figure in future days, couldn’t escape from a Silver Level monster’s clutches.
The trajectory shifted during the battle with the abomination.
If he hadn’t helped the army kill the abomination, the heavily damaged troops would have immediately returned to the base to recover strength, preparing to therefore clear the district in one fell swoop.
It feels somewhat like causal theory.
Chen Feng saved some people but inadvertently caused more deaths in this battle.
No guilt existed.
He just stood quietly, like a spectator, as the survivors held their heads and sobbed; even the soldiers beside him trembled. In a squad of ten, he was the only one alive.
Death.
This is common in the apocalypse.
Luck will not always favor the weak, even if you escape once by chance, without the strength to back you, any disaster can claim your life.
Life is cheaper than grass.
This is the most realistic portrayal of this world.
For Chen Feng, he has more important matters to consider.
Blood Sacrifice.
A battle with over a hundred human corpses; the angry retribution of humanity left behind more than fifty corpse centipedes’ remains, two Bronze Corpse Centipedes; the largest bounty lying on the grasslands’ center: the Demon Hunting Spider and Corpse Centipede Mother.
An astonishing harvest.
Enough to initiate a true Blood Sacrifice.
Chen Feng’s hands trembled; even his temperament struggled to control his excitement, yearning to commence the ritual now to summon the demon’s descent.
However, before this, he must clear the surrounding crowd.
No one desires their kin’s corpse to be desecrated; if a sacrifice is done before everyone’s eyes, Chen Feng only has two choices: kill them or be branded as a heretic.
Neither choice is favorable, as it would ruin his plans.
He has better methods than extremities.
Chen Feng walked over to Feng Zhiyong.
Having just survived a deadly encounter, Feng Zhiyong was still somewhat shaky, gazing at the Demon Hunting Spider before him in a daze.
The battle between the Demon Hunting Spider and Corpse Centipede Mother reshaped his understanding of the apocalypse.
How many such monsters are there?
Ordinary firearms are completely ineffective.
Professionals!
He needs more Warriors like Vine Warlock because only those with strange abilities can defeat such bulletproof monsters.
Until Chen Feng arrived beside him, Feng Zhiyong woke from his reverie.
Upon seeing Chen Feng, he couldn’t hide a trace of surprise. As J City’s ruler, he isn’t prone to showing emotions. However, the previous battle was too horrifying; for everyone being alive, their savior deserves all the credit.
Feng Zhiyong glanced deeply at Chen Feng, perhaps because of the Demon Hunting Spider’s endorsement, bestowing changes upon his appearance and aura.
Sharpened, imposing.
The presence of Chen Feng applied pressure on Feng Zhiyong.
Indifferent to Feng Zhiyong’s thoughts, Chen Feng bluntly stated, "You must leave here quickly. The overwhelming scent of blood will soon attract other monsters’ prying eyes."
You?
Feng Zhiyong heard some key points; he frowned, saying, "Are you not coming with us?"
Chen Feng’s distinguished performance made Feng Zhiyong somewhat reliant on him in both battles, seeing as the abomination and Demon Hunting Spider were handled solely by him, allowing everyone to survive.
Chen Feng shook his head, a hint of caution and worry in his eyes, "I still have some matters, the summoning earlier had issues. I have to send the corpse back to its original world."
Disguise.
During the prolonged fight for survival, Chen Feng acquired some deceitful skills.
"We can wait for you," Feng Zhiyong’s voice was slightly raspy, attempting to persuade Chen Feng.
"Listen!"
Chen Feng’s eyes turned alert, speaking solemnly, "It’s too dangerous here; soon other monsters will arrive. Once they attack, I can’t protect everyone, leading to massive casualties."
"You must leave here."
"Leave me some gasoline; when you depart, I’ll conduct a burial for these people."
"Rest assured, once things are done, I’ll catch up with you promptly."
"This..."
Upon hearing this, Feng Zhiyong’s dark face hesitated; they lacked strength to confront surrounding monsters. He understood this troop must return to the base quickly.
"Thank you."
After pondering for a while, Feng Zhiyong’s complexion turned remorseful. Softly, he said, "I will remember all you’ve done for everyone. Once settled, please come find me at East Bridge."
Seeing Chen Feng’s young face, Feng Zhiyong felt awkward. He should stay here, waiting to journey together with Chen Feng. However, his words earlier made him shy away; no mistake here, if monsters approached, with current morale, warriors couldn’t perform efficiently in battle.
They must leave!
Feng Zhiyong was not someone indecisive. Within minutes, he ordered them to evacuate before danger struck.
"Kind lies."
This battle claimed too many lives, but war always demands a price. Soldiers hearing the orders had no time to mourn; after resting briefly, they began packing their belongings for their homeward journey.
Five barrels of gasoline were left on the ground.
Some hoped Chen Feng could help conduct a simple cremation for their loved ones and comrades. In the wilderness, cremation is the body’s destination; for these people, resting in peace is more comforting, though with so many carrion monsters around, buried bodies would soon be dug up and consumed entirely.
Silence spread.
Kind lies forced these people to part from their loved ones’ and comrades’ bodies, a sorrowful aura spreading; some threw themselves onto corpses, crying silently.
Yet soon, they released their embraces.
At this moment, even the saddest ones must control their unwillingness.
Soon enough.
They vanished from Chen Feng’s sight.
.........
Chen Feng needed an absolutely silent environment.
Even slight mistakes would diminish the Blood Sacrifice’s value.
From now on, nothing nearby, human or monster, could approach; regardless of who, no interference with the sacrifice is allowed.
The Dark Elf hid in the corner. Any stranger nearing would only face cold arrows.
On a spacious playground.
Chen Feng appeared solemn, reciting the obscure Blood Sacrifice prayer.
"Evil presence from the Abyss, I pray for your attention with the blood before you..."
Chen Feng murmured softly. Within seconds, he made a startling move.
He swung his arm, reaching for a corpse centipede larva!
Exerting full strength, his fingers turned into hooks, stabbing through the larva’s riddled body, crushing its heart instantly, as scorching blood gushed out!
Then, he casually tossed the body on the ground, letting the blood flow freely.
This was a special life sacrifice; in the Abyss, many creatures are frantic and vicious, for them chaos and slaughter are life’s main melody...
Heart.
This was just the appetizer for this summoning...
