Chapter 361: Predator of the Void

After some time, his figure finally began to fade.

Before disappearing completely, Yu Changming glanced toward a distant, unseen point in space, then turned back and shot Yu Xuan a peculiar unreadable look, one that carried far too many meanings packed into a single gaze.

He raised a hand, casually gesturing for Yu Xuan to leave the gate.

Then, without another word, he dissipated.

Yu Xuan stood there, a few very visible question marks hovering above his head.

"...Alright then," he muttered with a sigh, rubbing his temples as another Talisman in his hands disappeared.

There was no time to dwell on it.

His body felt heavy, exhaustion finally catching up to him now that the immediate danger had passed.

He turned and began moving, forcing his limbs forward.

He needed to regroup with the others and enter the return gate.

By now, he was fairly sure it had been completed and maybe they had even returned.

But before leaving, he paused and looked back.

Behind him, the Void was still tearing at reality. The gate they had entered through was being slowly swallowed, its edges eroding as creatures continued to crawl out from beyond.

’...Is the anchor connecting the two heavens finally gone?’ Yu Xuan wondered.

The creatures pouring out were... strange.

Some were pig-shaped, bloated and twisted.

Others looked aquatic, their bodies slick and half-translucent.

Yet all of them shared one thing in common.

They were mindless.

No intelligence.

No tactics.

Maybe only instinct.

And now, several of them had noticed him.

They began crawling and running in his direction.

Yu Xuan groaned softly.

His cultivation technique surged to its fullest as he forcefully replenished his Qi, every golden core within his cells.

Even so, he could tell.

He was nowhere near peak condition.

Earlier, he had burned through nearly everything to survive.

Even with his absurd ability to gather energy from the environment, it would take days before he fully recovered.

And that wasn’t even accounting for the mental strain of a near-death encounter with Immortal-level existence.

He let out another breath, steadying himself.

Drawing his sword, he suddenly noticed something else.

The density of Fallen Energy in the surroundings was almost nonexistent.

"...Seriously?" he muttered unhappily.

"Why is the environment on hard mode today?"

Turning toward the direction of their underground base, Yu Xuan retreated, but it was clear this wouldn’t be a peaceful withdrawal.

Void creatures were closing in from multiple directions.

And it seemed that even now, the heavens had no intention of letting him leave quietly.

***

A great red arc tore through the air as Yu Xuan swung his sword, cleaving apart a pig-like monstrosity that had charged straight at him.

The creature didn’t even have time to squeal before it split cleanly in two.

"How is there still no end to these things...?" Yu Xuan muttered under his breath.

He leapt high into the air, narrowly avoiding another ambush, and flicked his fingers.

A tripus-like creature, he generously refused to call it a squid since it only had three tentacles, was violently yanked sideways by [Telekinesis], crashing into another void beast with a wet, unpleasant sound.

He hurried toward the underground base, his movements sharp but his mind anything but calm.

Too many things didn’t line up.

What he had just experienced... it was different from the vision he had seen when he was younger.

Just then, a familiar signal reached him.

Yu Xuan’s expression eased slightly.

’It’s great that there are no problems on their side,’ he concluded after receiving confirmation from the shadow he had deployed earlier to guard the others.

Without hesitation, he commanded it to return to him.

White lightning crackled from his hand, striking down another creature that lunged from the side.

The thing convulsed violently, yet even as its body charred, it kept twitching.

"...Do these things not feel pain?" Yu Xuan wondered.

Before another thought could form, his instincts screamed danger.

He snapped his head to the left.

Something was emerging from the Void.

Not a beast.

Not entirely.

It had a humanoid upper body, but below that... four thick legs spread outward like the legs of a table, forming a base.

At the center, perched above those limbs, was a frog like torso, complete with an oversized mouth full of jagged teeth.

The thing looked at him.

Then it smiled.

Yu Xuan stared at it for a brief moment before commenting flatly.

"What a badly shaped centaur."

The creature’s smile twitched.

It was clearly offended, even though it did not understand what Yu Xuan said.

"Oh? You angry?" Yu Xuan continued seriously, nodding to himself.

"You too angry, me too angry! We too brothers!" he muttered gibberish as he knew what that creature was.

A Predator of the Void.

The creature let out a low sound and vanished from its spot.

Yu Xuan’s eyes widened.

"What the fu—!"

He was struck an instant later, a terrifying force slamming into his side.

Space itself seemed to fold as he was blasted into the ground, skidding and rolling violently across shattered terrain.

’That wasn’t just speed,’ Yu Xuan realized as he forced himself upright.

’It’s using space directly.’

Nearby, his shadow finally arrived, spreading across the ground unnaturally, as if it were a living thing seeking its master.

The Predator of the Void tilted its head, equally confused.

Normally, anything it punched either exploded into blood mist or was crushed by spatial pressure.

This one... stood back up.

Turns out, that the other party had a strong body.

Yu Xuan suddenly felt a strange chill run down his spine, the uncomfortable sensation of someone, somewhere, thinking very bad thoughts about him.

He barely avoided another attack, dodging by a hair’s breadth as distorted space tore past where his head had been.

After a few more close calls, he noticed something.

His shadow had expanded, forming a perfect circular area on the ground.

Yu Xuan didn’t hesitate.

He jumped straight into it.

The Predator of the Void, driven purely by instinct, attempted to follow.

BANG!
