Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 177: An Idea
The morning sun streamed through the tall glass windows of the elegant café where Delphinia sat across from Elaine. The gentle hum of conversation, clinking cutlery, and the soft aroma of fresh pastries filled the air. Elaine had chosen this spot for their little outing, a quaint place tucked away from the city’s chaos.
Delphinia sat with her hands wrapped around a warm cup of tea, feeling a bit more relaxed. Spending time with Elaine always felt oddly comforting—she was warm, thoughtful, and refreshingly honest. The two had spent the morning wandering through boutique shops, exchanging thoughts on everything from home decor to the latest fashion trends. Delphinia appreciated how Elaine treated her not as a daughter-in-law out of obligation, but as someone she genuinely enjoyed spending time with.
"Let’s take a break here," Elaine had said earlier, leading Delphinia into the café.
Now, as they nibbled on light salads and freshly baked bread, Elaine cleared her throat, catching Delphinia’s attention.
"You know," Elaine began, twirling her fork between her fingers, "Evander’s birthday is coming up."
Delphinia blinked. Right, his birthday. She had been so wrapped up in everything lately that it had slipped her mind. Though, to be fair, she had been mulling over what kind of gift to give him. What do you give a man who already has everything?
"I was actually thinking about that," Delphinia admitted with a soft chuckle, her fingers brushing over the rim of her teacup. "But he’s... not the easiest person to shop for."
Elaine let out a laugh, the kind that filled the air and made Delphinia smile. "Oh, you’re telling me? Every year, it’s the same thing—simple cake, a gift he barely unwraps, and that’s it. But this year, I want something bigger."
"Bigger?" Delphinia echoed, arching a brow.
Elaine’s eyes sparkled with excitement. "Yes. A proper party. We can invite his colleagues, some important figures. And it’s the perfect chance to show the world who his wife is."
Delphinia hesitated for a beat. She stirred her tea thoughtfully before asking, "But... doesn’t Evander hate that sort of thing?"
Delphinia tapped her fingers against the porcelain rim of her teacup, watching the steam curl into the air.
A proper party.
Elaine spoke about it with such enthusiasm, but all Delphinia could think about was Evander’s clear distaste for crowded gatherings.
As far as she knew, Evander hated these sorts of things. He was a man who valued solitude, who found comfort in silence rather than in rooms filled with chatter and clinking glasses. Even on the night they met—at a bar, of all places—he had been trying to escape the noise.
Who the hell went to a bar just to stand on a balcony alone?
That told her everything she needed to know about Evander.
And now Elaine wanted to throw him a grand party? A celebration packed with important figures? It was the opposite of what he would enjoy.
A flicker of doubt ran through her.
Would he even agree to something like this?
She had no doubt he would attend—Evander wasn’t the type to shirk responsibility—but enjoying it? That was another matter entirely.
Elaine’s laughter was more of a soft scoff this time. "Oh, absolutely. He takes after his father that way. Both of them would rather sit in their studies with a scotch than host anything grand. But that’s exactly why I need your help."
"My help?"
Elaine leaned in, lowering her voice as if sharing a secret. "You can convince him. If I push, he’ll just roll his eyes. But if you suggest it, he might actually consider it."
Delphinia paused, then smiled. "I can definitely talk to him. And if you need any help planning it, I’m in."
Elaine beamed, her whole face lighting up. "I was hoping you’d say that!"
As Elaine continued to chatter excitedly about the party, Delphinia sipped her tea, lost in thought.
Maybe... this wasn’t such a bad thing.
If she helped Elaine plan the party, she could make sure it was something Evander wouldn’t completely hate. And maybe—just maybe—it would make him a little proud of her.
Not that Evander was the kind of man to shower people with praise, but she could at least make things easier for him. If the party was happening regardless, then she wanted to be the one making sure it didn’t turn into some overwhelming, extravagant nightmare for him.
Besides, wasn’t that what a wife should do?
But of course, all of that depended on one thing—Evander had to agree to it first.
There was no use throwing a party for him if he didn’t want it in the first place.
That night, Delphinia sat on the plush bed in their shared room, legs crossed as she flipped through a catalog of event decorations on her tablet. Evander sat at the desk, skimming through some documents, but Delphinia knew she needed to ask him now.
"Evander?" she called, trying to sound casual.
He hummed in response, not looking up.
She cleared her throat. "I was talking to your mom today... about your birthday."
Evander finally turned his chair slightly, raising an eyebrow. "Oh?"
"She’s thinking of doing something big this year. Like a full-on party."
Evander tilted his head, waiting for the part where he’d have to object. Delphinia braced herself, already preparing a string of arguments.
But then he simply said, "That’s fine."
She blinked. "Wait. Really?"
He smirked. "Yeah. Why?"
Delphinia frowned, confused. "You agreed too quickly. Are you feeling okay?"
Evander chuckled as he stood up and walked over to her, leaning down to press a soft kiss to her cheek. "I’m not going to ruin something my wife and my mother are clearly excited about."
She narrowed her eyes playfully. "You’re suspiciously agreeable tonight."
He straightened up, heading toward the bathroom. "Don’t push your luck."
As the door clicked shut behind him, Delphinia grinned to herself. Well, that was easier than expected. Time to plan the biggest party Evander Walton has ever had.
