Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 200: Attempt To Mess With Her
The evening unfolded in a cascade of soft music and glittering lights, the grandeur of the celebration seeping into every corner of the ballroom. Delphinia stood beside Elaine, smiling politely as they spoke with a pair of older guests who had been friends of the Walton family for years. The conversation was light—mostly pleasantries and idle chatter—but the weight of the night pressed heavily against Delphinia’s chest.
Her smile remained intact, but deep down, she needed a moment to herself. When the opportunity arose, she leaned close to Elaine. "Excuse me for a moment, I’ll just freshen up."
Elaine’s sharp eyes flicked toward her, as if trying to read beneath Delphinia’s composed expression. "Go ahead, darling. Take your time."
Delphinia nodded, turning gracefully and slipping away from the crowd. The soft click of her heels echoed against the marble floor as she made her way toward the powder room. The hallway was quieter, a welcome relief from the endless sea of faces and curious gazes.
The powder room was empty when she entered, its pristine white walls reflecting the gentle glow from the chandelier above. She took a deep breath, letting the cool air settle her nerves. But just as she was about to touch up her lipstick, the door creaked open. Two women walked in, their hushed voices filling the room.
"Did you see her?" one of them whispered, a sharp edge in her voice. "The ex-Mrs. Robinson? What is she even doing here?"
Delphinia froze, her hand tightening around the tube of lipstick. Her heart clenched, but she stayed perfectly still, lowering her gaze to the marble countertop.
The other woman chuckled softly. "Oh, you know how these things work. Men like Evander Walton always keep women like her around for convenience. Maybe he just needs someone to warm his bed until he finds someone more... suitable."
Delphinia’s breath caught, but she forced herself to remain calm, her fingers curling slightly as if grounding herself. She knew this game. She had played it before—stood silently while others picked apart her worth behind closed doors.
"Honestly, I doubt she’s anyone special," the first woman murmured. "Probably just his companion for the night. If she’s lucky, he might ask her to stay until the morning."
Their laughter echoed cruelly against the tiles.
Delphinia’s heart pounded in her chest, but the hurt was different now. It didn’t sink into her bones the way it once had. Instead, it simmered—quiet, controlled... powerful.
With a steady breath, she turned, her heels clicking against the floor as she stepped out of the shadows.
"Well, that certainly explains why both of you are here tonight." Her voice was cool, cutting through their laughter like a blade.
The two women startled, their faces paling as they realized they had an audience.
Delphinia tilted her head, a soft smile playing on her lips. "I assume you both came hoping to share Evander Walton’s bed yourselves? Or did you think badmouthing me would increase your chances? If that’s the case... how unfortunate. He doesn’t particularly like desperate women."
A flicker of embarrassment crossed their faces, but Delphinia didn’t stop.
"And for the record, whatever arrangement Evander and I have—" she leaned in slightly, her voice dipping lower, "—it’s clearly far better than whatever fantasy you’ve been nursing about him. After all..." Her eyes glittered with amusement. "I don’t see either of you wearing his last name, do I?"
The room fell into thick silence. The two women shifted awkwardly, avoiding her gaze.
Delphinia straightened, smoothing down the dark blue fabric of her gown. "Next time you want to gossip about someone, I suggest picking someone who actually cares what you think." She paused, her voice softening, but there was a razor-sharp edge beneath her words. "And do me a favor—stop connecting me to Kai Robinson. I’m not Delphinia Harrington or Delphinia Robinson anymore." Her lips curved into a smirk. "I am Delphinia Walton."
The women flushed scarlet, sputtering as they scrambled for an excuse. But Delphinia had already turned on her heel, the sound of her heels echoing as she walked toward the door.
A slow clap filled the silence.
Delphinia’s steps faltered, her heart leaping into her throat. She spun around, eyes wide as she saw Elaine leaning casually against the wall, arms crossed over her chest.
Her dark eyes glimmered with unmistakable amusement.
Delphinia swallowed hard, her cheeks warming as she stood frozen in place. She wasn’t sure if she should be relieved that this wasn’t another ridiculous attempt to mess with her—or completely mortified because Elaine had definitely heard everything.
Her luck, of course, leaned toward the latter.
"Bravo, darling," Elaine drawled, her lips curving into a small, approving smile. "I was wondering when you’d finally show your claws."
Delphinia’s cheeks flushed, suddenly aware of every word she’d just said—especially the part about having the privilege of sharing Evander’s bed.
"Y-You heard everything?" she stammered. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Elaine’s smile widened. "Every. Single. Word."
Delphinia’s face burned, and she quickly looked away, wishing the marble floor would swallow her whole.
Elaine pushed off the wall, walking slowly toward her. But instead of scolding, she reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind Delphinia’s ear.
"Don’t be embarrassed," Elaine murmured. "You stood up for yourself. You reminded them exactly who you are. And..." Her eyes twinkled. "You reminded me a little of myself."
Delphinia’s heart squeezed at those words.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Elaine leaned in, her voice low.
"But next time, darling... maybe don’t boast about sharing my son’s bed so loudly. People might get the wrong idea."
Delphinia’s face flamed again, and Elaine laughed softly, the sound warm and surprisingly affectionate.
With a final pat on Delphinia’s cheek, Elaine turned toward the door. "Now, come on. The night is still young... and I believe there’s a certain Mr. Walton waiting to show off his wife."
Delphinia swallowed hard, her heart thudding as she followed Elaine back into the glittering warmth of the ballroom.
And for the first time in a long time, she walked with her head held high—not as the ex-wife of Kai Robinson.
But as Delphinia Walton.
