Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 202: Some Opinion
Delphinia stepped out of the powder room with Elaine at her side, her expression composed and steady. The brief encounter inside had done nothing to shake her—if anything, it only reinforced the confidence she had worked so hard to build.
Elaine, walking beside her, glanced at her daughter-in-law with evident pride, her eyes warm with approval. "You were magnificent in there," she said, her voice carrying a note of admiration. "Truly. The way you handled that? I couldn’t be prouder."
Delphinia smiled softly, though she wasn’t sure if she deserved such high praise. "It was nothing, really," she said modestly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
Elaine scoffed lightly, shaking her head. "Oh, please. Women like us know that standing up for ourselves is never ’nothing.’ And if Evander saw that, I’m sure he’d be just as proud of you as I am."
At the mention of her husband, Delphinia’s cheeks warmed, but before she could say anything, Elaine smirked mischievously and added, "But tell me, dear, do you truly believe sleeping with Evander is a privilege?"
Delphinia nearly tripped over her own feet. "Elaine!" she gasped, turning sharply to face Elaine, who was laughing behind her gloved hand.
"Oh, don’t act so innocent," Elaine teased, nudging her playfully. "You said it yourself earlier. I wonder, was that an impulsive remark, or do you actually mean it?"
Delphinia’s face burned. She quickly cleared her throat and looked away, feigning interest in the chandeliers above. "I—I was just trying to make a point," she muttered.
Elaine chuckled knowingly. "Mmm. A very bold point, indeed."
"Let’s talk about something else," Delphinia said quickly, desperate to steer the conversation away from her own words.
Elaine gave her a knowing look but let it go, the amusement in her eyes lingering as they walked back toward the main ballroom.
As they moved through the elegant crowd, a familiar voice called out, "Ah, look who it is! The two most stunning women in the room."
Delphinia and Elaine turned to see Cedric standing near a bar cart, a glass of amber liquid in hand. He looked effortlessly charming in his tailored suit, his usual roguish smile playing on his lips.
Elaine laughed at his greeting. "And you, young man, look quite dashing yourself."
Cedric placed a hand over his heart in a theatrical gesture. "Coming from you, Elaine, that means a lot."
Elaine smiled, then touched Delphinia’s arm lightly. "I should go find Victor before he gets lost in a conversation about stocks and never escapes. Why don’t you two take a moment to get to know each other better?"
Delphinia barely had time to protest before Elaine had already turned and disappeared into the crowd, leaving her alone with Cedric.
Cedric swirled his drink lazily, watching Delphinia with a casual air. "You know, we still haven’t had that lunch we talked about."
Delphinia nodded politely. "Yes, things have been a bit busy."
Cedric took a sip of his drink, his gaze never leaving her. "Understandable. Anyway, I already caught up with Evander. Gave him my gift, too."
Delphinia tilted her head slightly. "Oh? What did you get him?"
Cedric grinned. "His favorite car. For his collection."
She arched an eyebrow, a little amused. "That’s... generous."
Delphinia swallowed hard, forcing a neutral expression as she eyed the small key in Cedric’s hand.
A car. Just like that.
Though she had been in Evander’s world for a while now, she still couldn’t get used to it. This world of extravagance, where things like cars were given away as casually as someone handing out a snack. It still threw her off every time.
Her old self—the real her—could never relate to it.
"I have my moments," Cedric answered. Then, as if something had caught his attention, he gestured with his glass. "Ah, speaking of Evander... there he is."
Delphinia followed his gaze, turning slightly—only for her eyes to land on Evander standing with Lydia.
Her stomach tightened, though she told herself it was nothing.
Cedric leaned in slightly. "What do you think?" he asked, his voice laced with something unreadable.
Delphinia blinked, glancing at him. "I’m sorry?"
Cedric smirked, as if enjoying some private joke. "I mean, seeing them like that. Side by side. Together. Isn’t it... nice?"
Delphinia let out a small, polite laugh. "Well, they’re not arguing, at least. That’s something, right?"
Cedric chuckled, nodding. "True, true. You know, they used to be quite the power couple."
Something in his tone made Delphinia’s fingers curl slightly against her dress. "Yes, I’ve heard," she replied evenly.
"Imagine," Cedric continued, swirling his drink again. "Their history, their status, and now... a child between them. If they reunited, think about how much of a storm that would stir."
Delphinia stayed silent, watching Evander and Lydia from across the room. Lydia was speaking, and Evander looked tense, but still, he followed her when she started walking toward the balcony.
A strange sensation settled in Delphinia’s chest—something she didn’t quite recognize, but it felt sharp and cold. Was Cedric trying to make her jealous? Was he testing her? Or was he simply stating facts?
She took a slow breath. "I suppose, from the outside, they do look like a happy family," she said, keeping her voice as neutral as possible. "It’s good for Ashton."
Cedric hummed in agreement. "Good for Ashton, yes."
His tone was light, but Delphinia caught the way his gaze flickered to her, watching her reaction carefully.
Her eyes followed Evander’s figure as he disappeared onto the balcony with Lydia.
She wasn’t sure why, but she suddenly felt an urge to go after him.
She had only taken a single step forward when Cedric’s voice stopped her.
"Do you think you’re in the right place?"
Delphinia turned back sharply, facing him. "What?"
Cedric only smiled, lifting his glass in a slow, deliberate motion before taking a sip. His expression was neutral, but his words lingered in the air like a whisper meant only for her.
Delphinia stood still for a moment, her mind racing.
Then, without another word, Cedric turned back to the crowd, his smirk still in place.
And Delphinia was left standing there, a strange feeling settling deep in her chest.
