Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 208: Under the Moonlit Sky
For a moment, he simply stared at the message, his heartbeat steady but firm. Then, a slow smirk tugged at his lips. His worry faded slightly, replaced by curiosity and intrigue.
Julian, who had been peeking over his shoulder, let out a small laugh. "Looks like she’s got something planned for you."
Claire nudged him. "Don’t pry," she chided gently, though her own eyes flickered with interest.
Evander’s grip on the envelope tightened as he crouched down to Ashton’s height. His son looked up at him with round, innocent eyes, his small hands clasped together as if waiting for his father to speak.
"Ashton, did Delphinia tell you anything else when she gave this to you?" Evander asked, his voice firm yet gentle as he lifted the envelope slightly.
Ashton’s brows furrowed in thought before he shook his head. "No, she just said to give it to you after the party."
Evander searched his son’s face, looking for any hint that Delphinia might have told him more, but Ashton’s expression remained sincere.
Evander nodded slowly, his fingers tightening slightly around the envelope. "I see," he murmured.
Now it made sense. That was why Ashton had been in such a hurry to see him, why Julian and Claire had practically run to bring him over. Ashton might not have known what was inside, but he clearly understood that it was important.
With a deep breath, Evander straightened and turned toward Julian and Claire, who were still standing by the door.
"I’m leaving Ashton with you two for a while," he stated. "I need to find Delphinia."
Julian raised a hand slightly, his brows drawing together in confusion. "Hey, can’t you just take him with—"
But before he could finish, Evander was already moving, dashing down the hallway with determined steps. Julian let out an exaggerated sigh, dropping his raised hand and looking helplessly at Claire before turning to Ashton, who stood patiently between them.
Julian exhaled dramatically, placing a hand over his heart as if he had just suffered a deep personal loss. "I had plans, you know," he lamented, turning to Claire with an exaggeratedly sorrowful expression.
"I wanted to spend a sweet, romantic evening with my lovely girlfriend, maybe enjoy a peaceful night for once." He sighed again, this time with even more flair, and touched his cheek as though he were wiping away an imaginary tear.
Claire’s eyes widened in alarm, and in a flash, she covered Julian’s mouth with her palm. "What are you saying in front of a child?" she whispered harshly, glancing at Ashton, who only blinked up at them curiously.
Julian pulled her hand away, grinning mischievously. "What? It’s not like he understands—"
"But I do," Ashton interrupted suddenly, tilting his head. "Are you and Aunt Claire going to make a baby?"
Both Julian and Claire froze, their faces turning bright red in an instant. Claire covered her mouth in shock while Julian let out a strangled sound, unsure whether to laugh or cry.
"W-what?!" Claire stammered, glancing between Ashton and Julian. "Where did you even hear that?"
Ashton looked thoughtful, then nodded as if confirming something in his own mind. "Well, isn’t that how babies are made? You go into a bedroom, lock the door, and pray for the baby to come?"
Silence fell over the hallway.
Julian closed his eyes and let out a heavy sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. Claire, meanwhile, let out an awkward chuckle, shaking her head in disbelief.
"Okay," she said, finally composing herself. "Let’s go, Ashton. We’ll wait for your parents in our room."
Julian sighed dramatically but followed along, still holding back a laugh. Though, in the back of his mind, he couldn’t help but wonder what exactly was going on between his older brother and Delphinia tonight.
Julian lingered for a moment as Claire and Ashton started walking ahead, an odd restlessness settling in his chest. He wasn’t the type to poke his nose into things that weren’t his business—okay, maybe he was—but something about tonight felt different. Evander had stormed off in such a rush, and Delphinia leaving behind that letter? It must be something fun!
A part of him wanted to follow, to see what was going on for himself. But he knew better. Evander wasn’t the kind of person who appreciated interruptions, especially when it came to personal matters. If he needed Julian’s help, he would ask. Probably.
Julian sighed, running a hand through his hair before shaking his head. There was no use chasing after trouble. Besides, he had more important things to focus on right now—like his lovely girlfriend and his adorable nephew.
Meanwhile, Evander strode through the quiet hallways of the hotel, his heart pounding just slightly faster than usual. He had read and reread Delphinia’s note, his mind running through possibilities. Why had she left the party without him? What was waiting for him on the rooftop?
At least she wasn’t hurt or feeling unwell. That was a relief. But still...
He reached the rooftop access door and pushed it open. A cool breeze met him, ruffling his hair as he stepped out into the vast open space. At first glance, the area appeared empty, silent except for the faint hum of the city below.
He frowned slightly and looked down at the note once more, just to confirm. Rooftop.
Keeping his steps light, he walked further, his sharp eyes scanning his surroundings. Then, finally, in the distance, he saw it—a small table with two chairs. A candle flickered softly in the center, casting a warm, golden glow over the carefully arranged plates of food.
And standing beside it, her back to him, was Delphinia.
His breath hitched slightly, but he quickly schooled his expression and took a step closer.
She hadn’t noticed him yet. The soft fabric of her gown shifted slightly in the breeze, the delicate strands of her hair moving gently against her bare shoulders. There was something almost unreal about the scene, as if he had stepped into a dream where time had slowed.
A small smirk formed on his lips.
"Delphinia."
At the sound of his voice, she turned around.
And Evander’s eyes widened in disbelief.
