Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 217: A Bitter Realization
Gregory and Marissa’s faces darkened the moment the words left Evander’s lips.
Wife.
They clearly hadn’t expected that. Not at all.
Marissa’s lips pressed into a thin line, her perfectly applied lipstick doing nothing to hide the way the corners of her mouth twitched in displeasure. Gregory, on the other hand, was quick to recover. He forced a smile, though the tension in his jaw betrayed his true feelings.
"Oh... wife," he repeated, dragging the word out just slightly as his gaze flickered to Delphinia. His eyes roamed over her, as if seeing her for the first time. "I didn’t know you had already married, Mr. Walton."
Delphinia met his gaze, standing calmly beside Evander. She noticed the way the guests around them had gone silent, how their curious whispers hummed just beneath the surface. Her sharp eyes also caught the small group of reporters lingering near the edges of the grand reception hall. The weight of their presence settled on her chest. Of course, the Robinsons would have media covering the event. Just like her wedding with Kai all those years ago.
She could already imagine the headlines that would follow after this night. When Evander had introduced her at his birthday party, it had been in the privacy of a closed event, with no reporters present. But now? There would be no stopping the news from spreading. Her stomach twisted, but she kept her expression composed.
Delphinia’s lips pressed together as she glanced around the grand ballroom, the chandeliers casting a golden glow over the elegantly dressed guests. The air buzzed with quiet murmurs and stolen glances, all of which were undoubtedly directed at her and Evander.
She almost felt sorry for Kai and Adalaine. Almost.
After all, it was their wedding, their grand, extravagant day, and yet, it seemed like Evander had just effortlessly hijacked it to announce their own marriage. Not with a public declaration, of course, but the mere presence of her at his side, the way he introduced her without hesitation—it was enough. The message had been sent. And it was only a matter of time before the rest of the world caught on.
But did she really feel sorry?
Her nails skimmed the fabric of her gown as she fought the urge to scoff. No. Why should she? Why should she feel any guilt over those two when all they ever did was make her suffer?
Kai had abandoned her, tossing her aside like she was nothing. And Adalaine? That woman had gone out of her way to ensure Delphinia felt small, insignificant, unworthy.
If anything, this was fitting.
The bitter part of her relished the thought of them watching as the attention they craved so desperately was stolen right from under them. Their perfect little wedding, tainted by whispers of something far more interesting—Evander Walton’s unexpected marriage.
Let them squirm.
Evander didn’t hesitate. His voice was steady, cool as always. "We married recently," he confirmed. "It was a private affair, so not many people know yet."
Gregory’s smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. "Oh, I see. Well then, congratulations on your wedding." His voice was smooth, but Delphinia could hear the forced civility behind it.
Beside him, Marissa’s fingers twitched at her side, her nails digging into the fabric of her dress. She clearly had something to say—something biting, no doubt—but before she could open her mouth, Gregory’s hand found her waist. It was a small, subtle movement, but Delphinia caught it. A silent warning. Don’t speak. Don’t ruin this.
Delphinia almost scoffed. She knew Gregory wasn’t truly happy for them. He was just playing his role, keeping the facade of a gracious host. He didn’t want to sour his relationship with Evander. After all, the Waltons were powerful allies, and Gregory Robinson wasn’t stupid enough to openly offend them. But she was sure, deep down, he was seething.
"Excuse us," Evander said smoothly, not giving them any more time to linger in the conversation. "We need to greet the groom and the bride."
With that, he gently led Delphinia forward, guiding her away from the two people who had once been her family. As they walked, Delphinia could still feel their stares burning into her back. She didn’t turn around.
Gregory’s eyes followed them, his expression calm. His mind, however, was racing.
He had always considered himself a successful businessman. In the corporate world, he was sharp, efficient, and relentless. But when it came to his children... that was where his luck had failed him.
His eldest daughter, Sandra, was more concerned with her appearance than anything else. She flitted from one man to another, never taking anything seriously. Then there was Leo, his eldest son, who had proven time and time again that he wasn’t capable of handling the weight of their empire. And lastly, Kai. His youngest son, the one he had once placed his hopes on. The boy who had made a decision so foolish it still made Gregory’s blood boil.
Divorcing Delphinia had been Kai’s biggest mistake.
Gregory clenched his jaw. The partnership between the Robinsons and the Harringtons had crumbled the moment Kai ended his marriage. And for what? A woman like Adalaine? A woman with no family background, no business—nothing to her name except a pretty face?
And now, standing there, Gregory was forced to watch Delphinia—his former daughter-in-law—walk beside Evander Walton.
Evander Walton, who was the same age as Kai, yet infinitely more powerful. More accomplished. A man who had built his own empire, expanded his wealth, and earned the respect of every influential family in the city. A man who stood at the peak of success, while Kai...
Kai was nothing like him.
And Delphinia? She had thrived. She had landed herself a man that even Gregory himself had to admit was leagues above his own son.
He hated it.
As his gaze followed them across the hall, his fists clenched at his sides. He watched as Delphinia and Evander approached the bride and groom, the people at the very center of this grand event.
Kai and Adalaine.
