Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 38: A Sweet Connection
The cafe had the perfect atmosphere, and Delphinia felt relieved as it was exactly what she’d hoped for. Delphinia chose it carefully after hours of scrolling through reviews, determined to find a place Ashton might like. Famous for its desserts, the cafe had a stylish yet cozy atmosphere that felt just right for a quiet bite.
Ashton walked beside her as they entered, his eyes briefly scanning the room before settling into his usual composed demeanor. Delphinia led him to a small table by the window, thinking it might be good to see outside.
"Here we go," she said, her voice light as she pulled out her chair. Ashton slid into his seat across from her without a word, his posture straight and his small hands folded neatly on the edge of the table.
The waiter came over shortly after, handing them menus. Delphinia smiled and thanked him, glancing at Ashton as he quietly opened the menu. She couldn’t help but notice how serious he looked, his small brow furrowed in concentration.
"Anything look good?" she asked, breaking the silence.
Ashton shrugged lightly. "Maybe. What about you?"
"I was thinking of getting the waffle with chocolate ice cream," she said with a smile. "It’s been a while since I’ve had something sweet like that."
"Sounds fine," Ashton replied, his tone neutral but polite. After a moment, he pointed to a picture of a layered strawberry parfait. "I’ll get this."
"Good choice," Delphinia said warmly.
Once their order was placed, the waiter left them, and silence filled the air. She glanced at Ashton, who was quietly tapping his fingers against the edge of the table, his gaze wandering out the window. She realized she had to break the silence, to turn this moment into a chance to bond rather than just get through it.
"So," she began with a smile, "how was school today?"
Ashton’s eyes flickered back to her, and he shrugged lightly. "So-so. Like usual."
"Like usual?" she repeated, her tone playful.
He gave a small nod, his expression calm. "The teacher explained things. We listened."
Delphinia chuckled softly, shaking her head. "Not very exciting, huh?"
"No," Ashton admitted, his lips quirking slightly at her amused reaction.
"What about during break time?" Delphinia asked, leaning forward slightly.
"I ate lunch. Then I went to the library," Ashton replied simply.
"You didn’t play with your friends?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Ashton shook his head. "No. I like reading more."
Delphinia tilted her head, a warm smile spreading across her face. "That’s wonderful. You’re going to be a great scholar someday."
Ashton blinked at her, his lips pressing into a straight line. Though he didn’t respond, she thought she saw the faintest flicker of pride in his eyes.
A few minutes later, their desserts arrived, beautifully plated and smelling heavenly. Delphinia’s waffle was golden brown, drizzled with chocolate syrup, and topped with a generous scoop of chocolate ice cream. Ashton’s parfait was just as impressive, with layers of strawberries, whipped cream, and sponge cake stacked neatly in a tall glass.
"Wow," Delphinia said, her eyes lighting up as the waiter set the plates down. "This looks amazing."
Ashton nodded, picking up his spoon and taking a small bite of the parfait. Delphinia watched him out of the corner of her eye as she cut into her waffle. He focused on his plate, taking slow, careful bites.
The first bite of the waffle was divine, the warmth of the chocolate contrasting perfectly with the cold ice cream. Delphinia couldn’t help but close her eyes briefly, savoring the sweetness.
When she opened her eyes, she caught Ashton glancing at her plate. His expression was subtle, but there was a spark of curiosity in his gaze.
"Do you want to try it?" Delphinia asked gently, her voice light.
Ashton hesitated, his lips pressing together as if weighing his options. Finally, he gave a small nod.
Delphinia smiled and scooped a piece of the waffle with her fork, holding it out to him. "Here you go."
Ashton looked at the fork for a moment before leaning forward and taking the bite. He seemed hesitant, almost as if unsure as he thoughtfully worked through each bite.
"How is it?" Delphinia asked, watching him with interest.
"It’s good," he admitted after swallowing, his tone still quiet but sincere.
"Do you like yours?" Delphinia asked, gesturing to his parfait.
Ashton nodded. "I do." After a moment, he added, "Do you want to try it?"
Delphinia’s smile widened. "I’d love to."
Ashton scooped a spoonful of his parfait and handed it to her. Delphinia accepted it gratefully, tasting the sweet blend of strawberries and cream.
"This is delicious," she said with a nod. "You made a great choice."
Ashton offered a faint smile, so quick she might miss it, before diving back into his dessert.
When they finished, Delphinia called for the bill and paid quickly. She noticed Ashton watching her closely as she tucked her card back into her wallet.
"Ready to go?" she asked, standing up and grabbing her bag. Ashton nodded, following her out of the cafe.

The ride home was quiet at first, but then Delphinia glanced at Ashton, noticing how relaxed he seemed.
Just as they were about to turn onto the main road, Ashton’s voice broke the silence.
"Delphinia?"
She glanced at him, her eyebrows lifting in surprise. "Yes?"
"Thank you," he said, his voice calm but with that unfamiliar softness.
Delphinia blinked, a hint of shock crossing her face. "For what?"
"For taking me to the cafe," Ashton said, his gaze fixed out the window. "And for the food. It was... good."
Delphinia’s chest tightened with unexpected warmth. She smiled, her voice gentle. "You’re welcome, Ashton. I’m glad you enjoyed it."
There was a pause before she added, "If you want, we can go again sometime."
Ashton turned to look at her briefly, giving a small nod. "Okay."
Delphinia’s smile widened, her heart lifting at the simple exchange. The rest of the drive was quiet, but it felt different—more comfortable, as if the air between them had cleared.
