Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Expectant Father

When the elevator hit the bottom and stopped, Sophia was curled up in Faye Ellison’s arms, desperately protecting her belly.

Her face was pale, beads of sweat formed on her forehead, and the hand clutching her skirt turned deathly white.

This kind of panic and fear was something she had never experienced in her life.

No matter whose child this was, this little life inside her belly, she seemed to have found some source of solace, some reason for concern.

When she buried herself into Faye Ellison’s arms, she didn’t think much. She just knew she wanted this child to be healthy, and without regard for the difference between man and woman, she directly burrowed inside.

With a little cuteness squirming into his arms, Faye couldn’t help but smile slightly, cautiously protecting her, cradling her head and small belly.

Trying to make her feel safe.

Just two floors worth of falling sensation, actually causing no significant harm to them,

"Don’t worry, it’s okay now, you’re safe." Faye softly comforted.

He slowly released his grip, and his chest was soaked, whether it was with sweat or tears, he wasn’t sure.

"Are you alright?" he asked.

This woman was very close, a faint aroma wafted over, an intoxicating scent.

The last time he carried her to the hospital, he caught a whiff of it but didn’t pay much attention. Now it seemed he liked it more.

This fragrance seemed to bring peace.

Sophia composed herself, cautiously letting go.

Only then did she realize, Faye was hot, scorching, unlike any ordinary body temperature, as if he had a fever, or maybe...

She couldn’t help but sneak a glance down.

"Sophia, call outside." Faye lowered his eyelids, pulling back the woman’s wandering thoughts.

He hadn’t brought a phone up, but Sophia had hers.

She might want to see something, Faye knew, she was a woman, and she understood many things already.

Sophia blushed, murmuring an acknowledgment, just about to get up and leave when she realized her legs felt limp, her hands still shaking; she stood up inadvertently and suddenly fell back into Faye’s arms.

"Hmm—" he groaned quietly.

Sophia’s hand unintentionally pressed on his leg...

Frightened, she scooted back, curling up in a corner.

"Sorry..."

"..."

Faye’s face was dark, seemingly feeling humiliated over certain matters being discovered by others.

"Rest a bit before getting up, don’t rush." Faye wasn’t even sure whom he was urging to rest.

Both of them sat apart.

Sophia took out her phone and called Corinne Chapman outside.

Today, Hugh Irving needed to go to the neighboring country to deliver clothes to Mrs. Steven; she ordered quite a lot. Initially, Sophia was supposed to go, but her situation wasn’t suitable for going out.

The Stevens heard about Zane’s affair while in the neighboring country, and with a little inquiry, they learned about Sophia’s situation, so they didn’t force her.

That’s why Hugh was personally delivering it today.

Ansel Gallagher drove her to the airport, and neither were around.

That’s why Faye came over today.

After Sophia finished calling, Corinne immediately got the fire department involved.

"Are you okay?" Faye asked Sophia again.

Sophia discreetly checked herself; at least she was dry, probably no major issue.

"I’m fine, how about you?" Sophia tilted her head to glance at this man.

The elevator was pitch-black, unable to discern his expression, but Sophia didn’t dare get close to him.

Right now, he seemed more dangerous than the elevator.

"I’m okay." he said.

After brief asides, there was a deadly silence.

Until the firefighters arrived and opened the elevator door, finally giving them a sense of relief.

For safety’s sake, Faye suggested she go to the hospital for a check-up.

Sophia also had that intention.

But there was no spare car at the studio.

"I’ll take you there. I need a check-up too." Faye furrowed his brow, reaching up to rub his shoulder.

Sophia noticed his subtle action, feeling somewhat guilty.

"Sorry..."

Faye smirked slightly, "It’s fine, let’s go together."

"Okay." Sophia reluctantly agreed.

"Ellison, take care of Sophia." Teacher Hale knew Sophia was pregnant; these days she was always there, observing carefully, evident to anyone observant, let alone someone who had been a mother.

"Got it, Mom. Take care of yourself. If I can’t get back by afternoon, I’ll have Chester Vance come pick you up." Faye turned to relay.

"Don’t worry about me, you guys hurry and come back; if necessary, I’ll take a cab home." Teacher Hale looked at them with concern.

"Teacher Hale, we’ll head over first then." Sophia.

"Alright, alright, alright!"

"Let’s go." Faye turned to glance at the woman beside him.

Her face still hadn’t regained its color, still with that delicate and charming look, carrying a hint of fragility.

"Okay." Sophia followed behind him, walking cautiously.

Carefully sensing, afraid her body might show some odd symptoms.

Corinne instructed Eve Reid to accompany Sophia, Eve hastily grabbed her phone and followed her out.

Then, Corinne urgently called Zane, explaining the situation, finally at ease to handle subsequent matters.

When Zane received the call, he was undergoing an examination at the military hospital; he glanced at the list in hand, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it in the trash.

He then rushed to the hospital where Faye and Sophia were.

"You don’t have to bother about me, Eve is with me, you go do your thing." Sophia went to the obstetrics department, feeling strange with that man around.

"No worries, I still have some time before it’s my turn." Faye laughed softly, reluctant to leave.

Eve helped Sophia to a chair to wait patiently.

Until it was her turn, Sophia got up and went into the examination room.

Faye followed in.

The doctor routinely asked some simple questions, and Eve went off with the form to queue for examination materials.

"Next time be more careful, good thing you didn’t hit your belly, the child isn’t yet three months, encountering such incidents is very dangerous."

"Yeah, okay." Sophia lightly touched her belly.

"The future dad needs to be more cooperative as well, many things are better left undone by her, more rest is crucial." The doctor’s gaze fell on Faye.

The female doctor was confident in her judgment; this man looked at Sophia with love, accompanying her for a check-up, undoubtedly an affectionate partner.

"Okay." Faye replied.

"He’s not." Sophia quickly countered.

"..." The doctor was slightly awkward.

Sophia sat with her hands folded on her knees, listening to the doctor’s advice, without noticing Faye was gradually inching closer from behind.

The doctor glanced at Faye beside him.

Faye chuckled, saying: "Just learning."

Just in case someday this child calls him dad.

She and Zane, that detestable man, never had much affection; now, with such incidents occurring, Sophia would surely leave him.

Back when Henry Quinn had her for five years, she left without hesitation, declared the breakup; let alone this man, with her for less than a year.

Sophia seemed to catch on to something, her brow furrowed tightly.

"Dr. Walsh, why are you here?" The doctor was about to say something when a familiar woman entered from the doorway.

Zane’s aunt, Ruby Walsh.

"Oh dear, Sophia, you’re here for a check-up? Why didn’t you inform me in advance?"

Ruby Walsh crossed between Faye and Sophia, standing by Sophia’s side, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Faye naturally took a step back.

Why were Zane’s people everywhere?

"Aunt, it was too urgent today, didn’t have a chance to inform you." Sophia said lightly, unable to smile.

She didn’t want to see the Sterling family.

This aunt’s sudden visit surely came from Zane getting word of the situation; he couldn’t come, so he sent Ruby Walsh over instead.
