Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 194: The Colosseum (12)
Luna’s next fight was not all too interesting, sure her opponent was strong and fast, but they were not as strong or as fast as Luna.
Luna was fighting against a rouge type dwarves lady, she wore dark leather armour with a hooded cloak that obscured her face in a viel of shadow. She wielded twin daggers and utilised shadow mana.
To any normal opponent her insidious abilities would be devastating. Yet Luna had fought true shadow monsters, had experienced the kind of tricks they could play and understood how to work around them.
Her answer to the rouge when she unleashed a domain of dark shadows? Well she countered it by freezing everything around her. Luna’s frozen domain overwhelmed the rouges tricks, leaving her to face off against her in a show of mundane combat.
The result of this was but a forgone conclusion. Whilst the rouge was formidable when allowed to fight on her own terms, she faltered when she could no longer rely on her tried and trusted methods. It hardly took Luna a full minute to beat the rouge, the golden glow of the arena whisking her away as Luna basked in her victory.
With that latest victory the two companions were only a single fight away from entering the finals and having the chance to fight against one another. Not to say that this final fight would be easy, both fights would be against opponents that they had already encountered before.
Luna would be up against Kaldor, a giant of a man with prodigious strength, he would be someone that could truly push Luna, if her assessment of him from when they fought in the same free for all arena was anything to go by.
Violet would be facing yet another defense specialist, also someone she encountered in her free for all opening match, Ivan was a man of few words but seeing as how he made it this far he must have some tricks up his sleeve, tricks Violet was eager to discover.
Both girls were excited for their upcoming fights and due to the rapid pace of this tournament, they did not have a huge amount of time to sit around waiting for the next round to begin.
Violet would be up first, she walked out into the arena to the usual chaos of the crowd cheering, their thunderous applause forming the backdrop for her next bout.
As she looked around at the crowd she noticed Tyre was now seated in the main crowd, she gave him a wave and he nodded back in greeting.
"The first semi final match of the tournament is about to begin!" The boisterous announcer called, causing the crowd to settle down slightly and listen to his words.
"On one side we have Violet! She came out of nowhere, using her very own brand of arcane magic. But she is not your usual mage, no. She is not opposed to get stuck into the thick of it, will she pull out yet another victory here? Or will her opponent put an end to her inaugural run?"
Just then Ivan walked out into the arena, taking his spot opposite Violet some 10 meters away. He hefted his spiked mace on one shoulder whilst his black armour and tower shield protected him.
"On the other side we have Ivan! The silent warrior, none have heard him utter a word, yet his actions speak for themselves! A warrior of unparalleled durability, will he be the immovable object to Violet’s unstoppable force? Let’s find out!"
"Let the fight, begin!"
Ivan began to advance, not rushing but walking forward on steady steps, an ethereal glow covered his shield and armour causing the black metal to shimmer in the light. Violet opened up with her classic barrage of bolts, looking to gauge how well her magics will work against this man.
Yet when her void bolts impacted Ivan’s shield she was left perplexed when they simply vanished into the ethereal glow. She was unsure what exactly had happened so continued to unleash more bolts to try and figure out what he did.
Yet each and ever bolt that landed was simply absorbed into his shield, the ethereal light covering it hardly even rippling from the impacts, Violet got an odd feeling from witnessing that, so she swiftly stopped letting her bolts land on the shield, instead manually detonating them the instant before they would impact the barrier.
Whilst each individual bolt held minimal explosive power, when released dozens of time in seconds the force was enough to throw Ivan off ballence slightly.
The moment he stumbled back he blinked besides him, her fist already coated in void mana. Yet he responded perfectly, his mace already swinging down to land in her shoulder. She let her tail ship out to impact the shaft of the mace, throwing its angle off slightly and giving her just enough time to land her punch on his side.
Her fist impacted the armour yet as soon as her void mana came into contact with the ethereal glow that suffused his body she felt her mana being dissipated, this only her actual fist collided with the man’s armour, ringing out with a muted thud and causing Violet to pull back her fist with a yelp from the sudden pain.
Ivan had reset his ballence by now, his shield back in front of him and his mace once more swinging up towards her. She shot out a beam of void to hit the hand holding the mace, yet was once more stomped when her magic was entirely negated.
Violet growled in annoyance, truly confused as to how he was doing this? How did he manage to so effortlessly counter her own magics like this?
She then suddenly had a thought, her mind thought back on a particular bear that she and Luna had fought quite some time ago. The bear was able to effortlessly negate nearly all of their spells, she remembered how it had a strange ability to seemingly wreathe magic that came into contact with it. Did this man wield a similar kind of magic? A magical nullifier?
If that was the case then violet only saw a couple of options on how to win this fight. Either she stopped using magic of any kind, relying only on her physical prowes, or she went the opposite route.
This dwarf was clearly a physical specialised fighter, he likely only used his nullifying magics to allow him to get up close to his foe. Yet using that magic surely held a cost, so what if Violet just decided to try and overwhelming magical might to whittle down his resources until he was no longer able to maintain his anti magic.
A wide smile formed on violets face as she thought this over, a plan begining to form. The first step of this being to throw as much magic at him as she could manage.
A magic circle began to etch itself into reality above her. At the same time she redoubled her efforts in battering him back with a ceessless barrage of bolts and spears.
She intermixed her blows, sending some to miss his shield and explode either besides him or at his feet, most she simply allowed to impact his shield. Each blow only using a small amount of her maximum mana, yet she wondered just how much of Ivan’s mana her attacks burned through.
This was not going to be a quick fight, but Violet did not mind that, she was eager to see just how long her foe could hold out for.
