Chapter 200: The Colosseum (18)

As the blinding purple light fled the arena the crowd was in a hushed silence as they gazed down, eager to see who managed to win between Violet and Luna.

Yet they were quite surprised to find that no one was present in the arena. Their was a small crater in the arena centered on the spot that the two girls were standing at the end, yet no one else was present on the sands.

A murmur of confusion and dissatisfaction rippled through the crowd. Confusion as to why both competitors seemed to have disappeared, dissatisfaction at having no definitive victor in this final fight of the tournament.

This disquiet continued for a prolonged moment before the hesitant voice of the announcer made itself known.

"Well, that was quite the battle was it not!" Their was some muted cheers at that statement, but the confusion was still prevalent.

"I have the results of this fight, it was quite the close contest, both fighters were eliminated within mear moments of each other. Yet their was a victor, one fighter defeated their opponent first! Whilst they would have still fallen after their final blow, the fact remains that one contestant fell first."

"Welcome back into the arena our victor for the day! Luna!!"

**

Rewinding back to the climatic finale of the fight.

During the frozen moment a lot happened in very little time, Luna, wielding her ice blade had void stepped behind Violet, as her blade was meer inches away from cutting into her head Violet unleashed her dragon breath.

Whilst Violet was still impacted by the frozen moment skill her movements were drastically reduced, she could still do some simple actions yet when compared to how Luna was able to move within the frozen time bubble it was negligible.

So Luna was able to react to the deadly dragon breath, not enough to fully mitigate the attack, but enough to delay it just enough.

Luna mobilised her entire mana pool to further enhance her frozen moment skill. To the point that even the breath of a dragon was momentarily frozen in place. That gave Luna just enough time to finish her attack, the golden glow of the arena mobilising to block her strike, then Luna ran out of mana and the momentarily frozen dragon breath surged forth.

It impacted Luna a fraction of a second after she ran out of mana, the impact was devastating, only the golden shield of the arena able to whisk Luna away fast enough to avoid catastrophic injury.

So when the minor sandstorm that had been kicked up by the dragon breath died down, both companions had already been whisked away to to medical room where the awaiting medic quickly got to work healing their various injuries.

Violet blinked to find herself in a different room, the last thing she remembered was everything slowing down, a sense of danger and breathing out. Now she is somewhere else with 2 people she did not know moving towards her, she also noted that she hurt, nearly everywhere.

"Please stay still contestant Violet, we will get you healed right up." Said an older elven man who was leading a younger dwarven girl.

Yet Violet did not stay still, her mind was spinning as she replayed the last thing she remembered. Her mind came to a single conclusion to what happened, a single conclusion that blared clear in her head. ’I lost.’

As that realisation came over her Violet opened up her bond with Luna, feeling instantly as the familiar and welcoming wave of emotions and thoughts flowing between the two companions. She basked in that feeling for a brief moment before she spoke through to Luna.

"You won! I’m really happy for you! Hope you are alright!" And she truly was, Violet held no negative notability her perceived loss. All that meant for Violet was that she was simply not strong enough, whilst Luna, her companion was.

Sure she knew that it was a damn close fight, and even if she did loose this one, the fight would have likely ended up as a mutual destruction event. The fact remains that she lost, but it was to her companion, the person that she loved and cared for more than anyone else in the world, so she was only happy for her companion.

"I-I won? Wha... ha I did? I thought I lost?" Luna’s confused voice came through to Violet, hearing her companions bewildered voice brought a smile to her face.

"You won, I was teleported out first. Also where are you, I have a strange old man looking weirdly at me right now, how about you?"

Said strange old man was standing near Violet looking at the heavily injured woman, stare off into space whilst her face went through a range of emotions.

"Haaa, I won... that was a fun fight! I wanna do it again but in our beast forms! And I’m in a room with a guy that seems to want to heal me, he’s already shoved a mana potion down my throat! Oh wait, someone else just came in, give me a second."

With Luna momentarily busy Violet finally returned her attention to the elderly elf standing nearby. "Hello, what did you say earlier I wasn’t paying attention, sorry." She blinked innocently up at the man, practicing what Luna called her puppy eyes. She was not entirely sure what that meant, but Luna said that it would help when apologising so she did it anyway.

The elf, who was beginning to look more than a little annoyed at being ignored, felt his anger dissipate slightly at her expression. "Hmm, it is fine young one. My name is Ovalia I am a healer here in the colosseum, will you allow myself and my apprentice to begin using our magics on you?" He gave Violet a gentle smile when she nodded in agreement. Then both the elf and dwarven apprentice began their work to heal up the dragon.

Meanwhile Luna was having a different experience, she was promptly told that she won the tournament and needed to go back into the arena for the victory to be made official. "And naturally once that is over we will hand over the reward, would you like it to be delivered anywhere or simply handed over to you?"

Luna had only been half paying attention to what the official was saying, yet when he mentioned a reward her ears perked up right away. She wondered why she had not heard anything about a reward before now but shrugged to herself, it’s not like they were short on money give that Violet had a literal mountain of gold coins to spend. Still she was interested to find out what she could get as a reward!

So it was that Luna proceeded to follow behind the official who led her back towards the arena. She was promptly told to walk into it, when back on the sands she was greeted by thunderous applause from the ever boisterous crowd.

From there it was a bit of a whirlwind of activity for Luna. She was shown off to the crowd, the announcer suddenly appearing besides her on a podium that most definitely was not beneath her a moment before. There he presented her with a fancy looking medal then was promptly lead back out of the arena and told to follow another random employee.

She was led through a small maze of tunnels before arriving in front of a large closed door guarded by 2 strong looking warriors. Said warriors nodded at the person guiding her before moving to open the door and gesturing Luna inside.

Inside the room was a elegantly dressed dwarven woman, yet quite tall for dwarfs, she wore simple yet elegant clothing and radiated both power and authority. She sat behind a desk and radiated the power of a sovereign, Luna instinctively knew that this woman was the person in charge of the arena, then she felt the brush of her presence and also realised something that she couldn’t help but blurt out.

"Your the one that creates the golden barrier that keeps people alive right?" She then flushed slightly in embarrassment. "Umm sorry, got carried away then when I felt your presence. Umm what did you summon me here for? Miss?"

The woman chuckled lightly at her words, thankfull not seeming offended by Luna’s rushed words. "I am indeed the one that creates and controls the barriers for the arena, after all what kind of owner would I be to allow the promising fighters of this city die in my colosseum." She flashed a wide smile towards Luna at that.

"But enough about me deary, you are here to be rewarded yes! So let us get down to business." Saying so she swept her hand above the desk and a moment later a golden chest appeared on top of it, facing towards Luna.

"Go on now dear, it won’t open itself now will it?" The sovereign said with a smile.
