Chapter 307: Chapter 301: Deceptive Meal

An Yueqian heard the familiar voice behind her and her body stiffened. Why did she come back so soon?

"Xiao Lin, did you bring back what I asked for?" An Yueqian turned slightly, looking at her assistant without any guilt, and asked calmly.

"Here, the things you wanted!" Xiao Lin handed over what An Yueqian asked for, glancing at the empty dishes on the small table, "So can you tell me what you’re doing here?"

"Aren’t we going to be filming together for several months? I’m just here to build some rapport. Oh, by the way, this is Qin Yun, and this is her assistant, Yuanyuan." An Yueqian introduced them with a flawless smile as she took the bag Lin Huan handed her.

"Sister Qin Yun, Sister Yuanyuan, I’m Sister Yueqian’s assistant, my name is Lin Huan, but you can call me Xiao Lin or Huanhuan, whichever you prefer." Lin Huan said with a smile.

Only then did Qin Yun notice that when An Yueqian’s assistant smiled, she had dimples at the corners of her mouth. She looked young, with a bit of baby fat on her face.

"Hello, Huanhuan." Qin Yun said with a smile.

"Hello, hello, I’m Sister Yun’s assistant, just call me Yuanyuan." Yuanyuan looked at the dimples on Lin Huan’s lips, her smile was exceptionally sweet, which made her naturally feel a bit of goodwill.

Then, they both saw Lin Huan, who had just been smiling sweetly, turn around with a heartbroken expression towards An Yueqian and say, "Sister Yueqian, do you want to trend on social media again?"

"One deceptive meal won’t make me fat. At worst, I’ll just continue eating a weight-loss meal tonight!" An Yueqian couldn’t help but frown at the mention of last time’s trending topic, speaking reluctantly.

Yuanyuan suddenly turned her gaze toward Qin Yun.

Qin Yun remained calm, pretending not to notice Yuanyuan’s gaze, as this topic had nothing to do with her.

An Yueqian, remembering something, lifted her hand and handed the bag the assistant just brought over to Qin Yun, "Here, consider it a thank-you for letting me crash this meal."

Qin Yun glanced at the bag; it was a well-known brand and seemed expensive.

Knowing that people at their level didn’t like owing favors, she simply let Yuanyuan take it, "Thank you."

"Sister Yueqian, I just saw the scriptwriter on my way over. She said she needs to talk to you about something. Do you want to go check it out?" Lin Huan suggested.

An Yueqian thought for a moment and nodded, "It should be about the script. She mentioned it before. I’ll go and take a look."

After speaking, An Yueqian was about to leave but paused, asking her assistant for her phone. She opened it and handed it to Qin Yun, "By the way, let’s add each other on WeChat."

Yuanyuan immediately picked up the phone that Qin Yun had placed on the table and handed it to her. After Qin Yun added her, An Yueqian confirmed right away.

Lin Huan paused slightly at the words and also took out her phone to exchange contact information with Yuanyuan.

Afterwards, An Yueqian left with her assistant.

Yuanyuan watched their backs and jokingly said, "Sister Yueqian doesn’t seem as distant as online rumors suggest. Surely we can’t win over the Best Actress with just one meal, right?"

"Who knows?" Qin Yun responded with a meaningful glance at her.

Qin Yun remembered that she had been talking with Pei Yan before being interrupted; she had left him hanging for about ten or twenty minutes now.

She picked up her phone, which still displayed the picture Qin Yun took of her lunch for Pei Yan. Pei Yan had also sent her a picture of his own meal and asked if she was busy.

Qin Yun hadn’t replied yet.

At that time, Qin Yun had been too busy having lunch with An Yueqian and grabbing dishes to respond to anything else.

Qin Yun: [I was just having lunch with Best Actress An.]

Pei Yan’s response came through a few minutes later.

Pei Yan: [An Yueqian?]

Qin Yun: [Yes, she came to crash the meal.]

Pei Yan: [That’s unexpected.]

Qin Yun: [I didn’t expect it either. I need to look at the script now. I’ll video chat with you when I get back tonight.]

Pei Yan: [Okay.]

Pei Yan leaned back in his chair, one hand resting on the table, fingers neatly manicured as he fiddled with his phone, the other hand casually resting on his leg, fingers slightly curled, tapping lightly. His eyes were deep, pondering something.

Just earlier, his agent had informed him that someone was investigating Qin Yun.

Pei Yan: [I don’t need to tell you what to do, right?]

Agent: [You don’t trust me to handle things?]

Agent: [By the way, I’ve got some interesting intel on Qiong Hai. Turns out Qiong Hai’s been having quite the wild time. Originally, this was hard to trace back, but a friend of mine is quite familiar with him and shared a bit of info, so I found out. It’ll be more than enough to ensure he never bounces back and even lands him behind bars. I’ll send it to you now.]

Then, the agent sent all he had found to Pei Yan.

Pei Yan glanced at it, his face remaining indifferent, as if not surprised at all.

After reading it, Pei Yan casually sent a message back: [Take it slow, don’t crush him all at once. Pain is most profound when there’s a struggle.]

Agent: [Got it, don’t worry. But I’m really curious, what did he do to offend you? You never bothered with this sort of mess before.]

Pei Yan: [He messed with someone he shouldn’t have.]

Agent: [Ok, rest assured, I promise he won’t appear in front of you guys ever again.]

In the afternoon, Qin Yun was filming with Emperor Wei, so she was feeling a bit pressured. Worried that her acting skills might not be up to par and drag others down, she repeatedly went over the script, practicing with Yuanyuan to ensure she wouldn’t give too many NGs.

"Reading the script?" Wei Haocang approached with the script, noticing Qin Yun sitting upright and frowning at the script, raising an eyebrow as he spoke.

"Teacher Wei, do you need something?" Qin Yun asked, surprised as she looked up towards the source of the voice.

Then she turned her head to the side, noticing Yuanyuan was not nearby, so no one prompted her.

"I came to run lines with you, so we won’t get scolded by the director later. Is that okay?" Wei Haocang lifted the script in his hand, a hint of a smile breaking his stern expression.

Qin Yun nodded blankly, "Of course."

"Have a seat." Qin Yun handed Wei Haocang the small stool that Yuanyuan had used.

"Have you got your lines down?" Wei Haocang asked after sitting down.

Qin Yun nodded, "Yes, I have."

"Let’s run through it once, and see."

After one run-through, Wei Haocang asked, "You’re not formally trained, are you? Your line delivery needs a little work, but you have a lot of potential."

Qin Yun nodded, recalling that Pei Yan had mentioned this same point before.

"Lines can be practiced, trained over time. Has the company arranged a teacher for you?" Wei Haocang inquired again.

"Sort of," Qin Yun hesitated, recalling that Pei Yan had taught her for a few days, so that should count.

Wei Haocang nodded, stopping further questions, simply sharing some acting tips for the upcoming scene with Qin Yun.

Qin Yun absorbed them quickly. Practicing again with Wei Haocang, she felt improvement over before.

They rehearsed once more before the director called for them.

When filming began, Qin Yun found that Emperor Wei had a knack for drawing out emotions; acting alongside him, she quickly found herself immersed in the scene, and with the extra practice, she even delivered a better performance than usual.
