After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 134: Boss Quinn, Spoiling Her to the Heavens
Connor Quinn knew Caleb Lockwood.
This realization subjected Moira Sloan to a major moment of social death first thing in the morning.
Moira Sloan held her phone, silently giving him the finger in her mind.
But she didn’t respond right away, because in a situation like this, the first person to speak was guaranteed to lose.
Besides, she knew Caleb Lockwood’s personality—he’d be the first one to crack.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Caleb Lockwood’s stammering voice came from the other end of the line. "L-Little Sis..."
Moira Sloan seized the opportunity to defuse the situation, her voice deceptively casual. "Fourth Brother, you know Boss Quinn?"
Caleb Lockwood’s scalp tingled with fear. "I... I guess you could say that."
Moira said, "Boss Quinn is my tenant."
Caleb, "Ah."
They were all adults. Especially since Moira had just asked the group a question about "a friend of hers" two days ago. Even without spelling it out, it wasn’t hard for one’s imagination to run wild.
Moira never liked people meddling in her private life and had no desire to explain herself to anyone, not even to her incredibly close senior brother.
After hearing Caleb’s half-hearted "Ah," Moira didn’t say another word and turned to hand the phone to Connor Quinn.
As Connor reached for the phone, Moira curled her slender fingers, pulling it back slightly. She shot him a warning glance before slowly, a beat later, handing it over.
Then, without waiting to hear their conversation, Moira hopped off the bed. Her fair, bare feet touched the solid ground as she walked back to the master bedroom.
Watching Moira’s swaying figure depart, Connor Quinn spoke in a cold voice. "Talk."
Caleb sounded like he was on the verge of tears. "Eldest Brother, if I said this call was an accident, would you believe me?"
Connor said, "Get to the point."
The implication was clear: his patience was limited.
Caleb knew he had stepped on a landmine. He began pitifully, "Our Master’s wife contacted me this morning. She said she wants to reopen Erudite Pavilion, but Master clearly said back then that Erudite Pavilion would never open again. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I wanted to ask you..."
Connor asked in a low voice, "Did she only contact you?"
Caleb said, "She contacted Third Brother, too, but you know what he’s like. That guy’s so sly. He just passed the buck to me, saying he’d see what my opinion was."
Caleb added miserably, "What opinion could I possibly have? I’m the dumbest one out of all us brothers."
Connor said, "Have her contact me."
Caleb sounded hesitant. "Is that... appropriate?"
Lillian Kidd had just called him, and now he was supposed to immediately turn around and tell her to call Connor Quinn.
No matter how you looked at it, it would seem like he was tattling.
Connor’s voice was stern and cold. "Then you can make the decision."
Caleb pleaded, "Eldest Brother, come on! How could I possibly be the one to decide something this important?"
Connor said, "That’s for you to consider."
Meanwhile, Moira was back in her bedroom but couldn’t get back to sleep.
Never mind how calm she had appeared in Connor’s bedroom.
Now, she was so agitated she was running her hands through her hair.
’How could those two possibly know each other?’
’When did they meet??’
’She’d known Caleb Lockwood for so many years, and she’d never once heard him mention anyone named Connor Quinn.’
The more Moira thought about it, the more irritated she became. Her slender fingers toyed with a few strands of hair, pulling two out completely.
Just as she was stewing, she heard the door to the next bedroom open. She bit her lip, got out of bed, and opened her own door. Leaning her slender frame against the doorjamb with her arms crossed, she looked at Connor and asked, "How do you know Caleb Lockwood?"
Connor’s expression didn’t change. "A client."
Moira’s eyelid twitched. "He’s getting a tattoo?" 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
’This was Caleb Lockwood, the kind of guy who’d want to go to the hospital for a paper cut. He was getting a tattoo?’
Connor replied nonchalantly, "Mm."
Then, Connor added a reason that left no room for doubt. "He said he wasn’t manly enough and thought a tattoo would help."
Moira raised an eyebrow. "What’s he getting?"
Connor walked into the bathroom without turning around. "Take a guess."
Moira pondered this.
’A tattoo... something badass... something that would make him seem manlier.’
’Green dragon on the left, white tiger on the right?’
Moira didn’t know much about tattoos, so she just guessed randomly. "A white tiger?"
’Come to think of it, with Caleb’s looks, a white tiger would actually be pretty fitting.’
’He’s so fair-skinned, with that baby face... a white tiger tattoo...’
’Never mind. The mental image was too ridiculous. She didn’t want to think about it any further.’
Moira had just thrown the idea out there, but to her surprise, Connor confirmed it as he came out of the bathroom. "Mm-hm."
Moira’s eyes widened in surprise. "For real?"
Connor said, "For real."
Moira asked, "When’s he getting it?"
’She was actually looking forward to seeing Caleb get a tattoo. Knowing how precious he was about his own well-being, he’d definitely... make a huge scene...’
Connor asked, "When do you think he’ll get it?"
The corner of Moira’s eye twitched playfully.
’He called first thing this morning, so he must want to get it done today.’
Moira ventured, "Today?"
Connor replied in his deep voice, "You guessed right."
A smile touched Moira’s lips, and a light danced in her sparkling eyes. "It wasn’t a hard guess."
Connor strode into the kitchen, a barely-there smile tugging at the thin lips on his usually iceberg-cold face. "That’s because you’re smart."
