After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 164: Crooking a Finger
Sweet nothings have always been a catalyst for romance.
Especially when Connor Quinn was being so serious.
Moira Sloan had been looking tense, but her expression visibly softened after hearing him speak and seeing the look on his face.
She was touched, but she didn’t show it.
After a few seconds, she crossed her arms, lifted her chin, and said with a half-smile, "How much money can you give me?"
Connor Quinn said, "All of it."
Moira Sloan gave a wry smile. "All of your money combined isn’t even a fraction of my savings."
After speaking, Moira Sloan pressed her tongue against her teeth, feeling that her words had been a bit too harsh. She reached out to wrap her arms around Connor Quinn’s neck, nuzzling and kissing him. "Connor Quinn, I’m not playing with you. I’m really serious about our relationship."
"Mm, I know," Connor Quinn said in his deep voice.
Moira Sloan blinked playfully. "So, does this mean we’ve made up?"
Connor Quinn said, "I wasn’t even angry in the first place."
Boss Quinn’s performance was excellent. With her anger completely gone, Moira Sloan even ate an extra half-bowl of rice at dinner.
After dinner, Connor Quinn cleared the dishes while Moira Sloan crouched on the floor, opening packages.
She had bought a few dresses online a couple of days ago, and they had just arrived.
Once the dresses were unboxed, she stood before the mirror and started her own little fashion show.
The first was a long black dress, entirely black and dotted with a few small floral prints. The style wasn’t particularly outstanding, but the quality of the fabric elevated the entire piece by more than just a notch.
And with her figure to back it up—slim where it should be, curvy where it should be, an alluring silhouette...
Alluring...
Moira Sloan was observing the figure in the mirror she had always been proud of when she suddenly noticed a fatal problem.
She’d gained weight.
It was especially noticeable in how the fabric was stretched taut across her chest and in the slight bulge of her stomach.
The next second, the corners of Moira Sloan’s eyes lifted in a slight frown.
’I’ve been eating too much lately.’
Ever since Connor Quinn took over the cooking, her appetite had increased by leaps and bounds. And every morning or afternoon, he would always give her a small cake as an extra snack.
’A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.’
Moira Sloan pursed her lips. When Connor Quinn came out of the kitchen, she beckoned to him with a finger.
She drew him over and placed his large hand on her lower abdomen. "Feel anything?"
Moira Sloan’s action was quite suggestive.
The color in Connor Quinn’s eyes deepened, and his breath hitched.
Then, Moira Sloan pouted. "I’ve gotten fat. It’s all flab. Feel it?"
Connor Quinn’s fingers, resting on her stomach, curled slightly. "It’s nice."
Moira Sloan asked, "What’s nice about it?"
"You were too thin before," Connor Quinn said in a low voice. "Gaining a little weight is good. It’s better for your health."
In her thirty years of life, this was the first time Moira Sloan had ever heard someone say that gaining weight was good for one’s health.
However, considering how much trouble she had been causing lately and that they had just made up, she decided to quit while she was ahead and not nitpick.
The fashion show ended almost as soon as it began. The two chatted in the living room for a while before returning to their respective rooms.
After all, they were just dating, not married. Besides, Moira Sloan subscribed to the idea that a little distance was a good thing.
So, except for *those* times, they didn’t live together.
「The next day.」
Moira Sloan, still deep in a groggy sleep, was startled awake by a phone call. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
She instinctively reached for the phone on her nightstand and answered. Before she could even speak, she heard Lillian Kidd’s tear-choked voice on the other end. "Moira, the results of your master’s case investigation are out."
At Lillian Kidd’s words, a jolt went through Moira Sloan, and all her sleepiness vanished instantly.
"What did they find?"
Lillian Kidd sobbed, her words rambling and incoherent. "Moira, your master and I have always treated you and your fellow apprentices as our own children. I can’t accept this! How could it be him? How could it possibly be him..."
Moira Sloan sucked in a sharp breath. "Who?"
"Finn Fuller," Lillian Kidd said. "It’s Finn Fuller. It’s confirmed..."
Lillian Kidd was crying so hard that Moira Sloan couldn’t get a word in.
Moira Sloan felt a rising anxiety, completely unable to interject.
When Lillian Kidd had finally cried herself tired, Moira Sloan gripped her phone tightly, held her breath, and asked, "Are these the results from the police investigation?"
"No," Lillian Kidd said through her tears. "It’s what a private detective I hired found out."
Lillian Kidd then added with another sob, "There’s no way it’s wrong. The private detective is very famous. Your Eldest Senior Apprentice introduced him to me."
Moira Sloan frowned.
’Eldest Senior Apprentice.’
’Her Eldest Senior Apprentice again.’
Kain Alden had been dead for so long, and the investigation had dragged on for ages with no leads.
But as soon as her Eldest Senior Apprentice showed up, everything suddenly started making progress.
’Is it a coincidence?’
’Or is my Eldest Senior Apprentice really that capable?’
’Or perhaps...’
A thought occurred to her, and Moira Sloan pressed her lips together, not daring to think further. The implications were terrifying.
Just then, Lillian Kidd delivered the killing blow. "Moira, don’t you think it’s all too strange?"
